Pacific Festival | Tickets

Next weekend – August 16th – marks the return of Pacific Festival. Hosted inside the Back Bay Dunes of Newport Beach, this festival is a single day of ‘hip’ culture and sound that signifies summer in Southern California. Indie dance pop, sunshine tinged electronics, craft brews, and culinary skill on wheels are brought together to provide you with a day’s respite. There will be returning summer staples with new material (Poolside, Bag Raiders, Miami Horror[LIVE!]) as well as more acts that have been making quite a name for themselves (De Lux, Painted Palms, Cherry Glazerr, among many others).

Don’t think we forgot special guests and in-house favourite Holy Ghost! who are, arguably, at the helm of the post-punk, indie-dance scene. We’ve seen them quite a few times and have yet to be disappointed. Every one of their sets is packed with synth-heavy, melodic, and utterly cool vibes that we wish never end. They’re undoubtedly one of our favorite acts to see live and they’re coming to our home town! More details and contest below!!

HOW TO ENTER

Standard procedure: The contest ends at 12PM Monday August 11th! The more ways you enter below, the better your chance is to win. Be sure to be ready to check your e-mail/twitter, because we’ll be giving it to the first person who responds when the contest is over. See you guys there!

Take 2 Entertainment | Tickets

It was seemingly yesterday that we celebrated USA…and now we’re already upon Christmas. Or so it would seem. There might not be snow falling from the sky (like there ever is in Long Beach anyway), but that doesn’t mean you can’t break out your Santa hats for another round of themed triple-decker boat fun and sunset sprays this coming July 26th.

The jolly tunes this time will be provided by Summertime staple Viceroy, the always lovely Jessie Andrews, GDD residents Bones and Troy Kurtz, Wilks and more primo talent we’ve seen making waves in the LA scene. One special addition (it’s quite a present indeed) to this installment is the after party aboard the Queen Mary. From past experience, nobody is quite ready for the night to end once docked. This time around there won’t be silly drivers doing silly things. Stay afloat awhile longer with tunes curated by our friends in GDD, Take2En, and a Super Duper Secret Special Guest. Still can’t muster the courage to take to the streets? Hang out for the sleepover; just call 877.342.0742 for rooms!

Seattle’s Beat Connection is something of a hidden gem on the chill-wave front. In the chill-wave-tidal-wave of our present year they’re doing something right and are sure to quickly float to the top. They have the given elements of their genre nailed–synthy-escapist ambiences floating through tribal clamor, but their debut LP Palace Garden has something else to it that makes it a bit more real. I think it manages to sneak past and beyond all of the other chill-wave bands of the moment. Despite its ethereal appeal, it’s not something you want to listen to face-down in your pillow at night, and you’re not going to be at risk of falling asleep at the wheel if you’re listening to it on the road.

It’s colors are more glaring and its beats more grooving. You’re gonna want to move to this stuff, and honestly it’s hard not to. Try sitting still listening to the title track, for instance. Their music is energetic and swift, so it’s not surprising that I’ve only heard wonderful things about their live performances. If all this isn’t enough to sell you, they’ve been on tour with Starfucker, a C+A+D essential. They’re young and on fire and are only getting better. Snag the album and keep your eyes open for these dudes.

Happy Sunday everyone! Ok so sorry I haven’t had a chance to post anything up here in the past few weeks. Hopefully this post will make up for it. I’m going to start putting together a playlist weekly of a handful of different genres from bands I really like. I’m going to keep it to around 20 songs each time so you can put it on a CD to enjoy on your summer drives. If you don’t know already, YOLO is short hand for You Only Live Once. If i could live my life by any four letters, it’d be these. Life isn’t too short, but too dear to be confined to any one genre of music, or to any one way of life for that matter. There is some good in every genre, even country. Open your minds and your ears and give it a shot. You never know..

It’s hard for me to look at that lineup and not simultaneously climax all over my computer. I’m only saying this because it pretty much screams “YOU’RE GONNA HAVE ONE OF THE BEST NIGHTS OF YOUR LIFE ON AUGUST 7TH!” The featured artist for this event would have to be Soulwax, hands down. You’ll all see, as this blog goes on, that I have a massive amount of love and respect for Soulwax as DJs and producers. They were there at the beginning of my electronic music endeavors and have remained at the top of my list ever since. The last time they were in the US was at HARD Haunted Mansion 2008, which could quite possibly have been one of the best electronic lineups of all time and ended up putting HARD on the map. (sebastiAn was a special guest, mind you). Anyway, they put on the best performance I’ve ever seen, and if you know me, that’s saying a lot.

I bet you’re asking yourself, “Why should I go to this? I barely know these DJ’s!” Alas..I’ve made a playlist of songs I like from the DJs I’ll be seeing that night for your listening pleasure. You can get the songs here. The plan is, I’m going to get a party bus to get y’all there and back safely. This isn’t the first time I’ve done it, and I promise you’ll be in good hands. I’m in high hopes that all this will push you over the edge to buy your ticket.

Tickets are around $68 on fla.vor.us but if you go to One World on Newport Blvd on Costa Mesa, you can get the hard copy ticket for a few bucks cheaper and dodge the will call line. Let’s party on august 7th.
