Darius | Soundcloud

This morning, Majestic Casual got premiering rights for Darius’s new remix of Bondax. Lucky bastards. Ever since Terence put Cherokee on the backburner, he’s consistently given French House aficionados music to drool over. His productions always manage to mentally take you away from where you are; they just simply put you at ease. This release is no different. Combine the textbook Darius funk with Bondax’s soulful vocal choice, and you got yourself a song of the summer. Check it out below along with some extra essentials after the jump.

Bondax – All I See (Darius Remix)

Darius – Hot Hands

Daft Punk – Something About Us (Cherokee Remix)

Darius – Vanyll

It was seemingly yesterday that we celebrated USA…and now we’re already upon Christmas. Or so it would seem. There might not be snow falling from the sky (like there ever is in Long Beach anyway), but that doesn’t mean you can’t break out your Santa hats for another round of themed triple-decker boat fun and sunset sprays this coming July 26th.

The jolly tunes this time will be provided by Summertime staple Viceroy, the always lovely Jessie Andrews, GDD residents Bones and Troy Kurtz, Wilks and more primo talent we’ve seen making waves in the LA scene. One special addition (it’s quite a present indeed) to this installment is the after party aboard the Queen Mary. From past experience, nobody is quite ready for the night to end once docked. This time around there won’t be silly drivers doing silly things. Stay afloat awhile longer with tunes curated by our friends in GDD, Take2En, and a Super Duper Secret Special Guest. Still can’t muster the courage to take to the streets? Hang out for the sleepover; just call 877.342.0742 for rooms!

HOW TO ENTER

Standard procedure: The contest ends at 8PM Friday July 18th! The more ways you enter below, the better your chance is to win. Be sure to be ready to check your e-mail/twitter, because we’ll be giving it to the first person who responds when the contest is over. See you guys there!

This weekend is of much celebratory import. We’ve got the birth of our nation on Friday. And then we’ve got the 1-year anniversary of Take 2 Entertainment’s sea-born baby: Boatylicious. I’m sure you know the setting by now. But if not, then there’s no reason not to get acquainted with the Long Beach Harbor backdrop, Pacific kisses, and California sun atop a triple decker of red, white, and blue. Deep, tech and disco house vibes and feel-good freedom ensure this party will be booming. Come catch the Sunset and IndepenDANCE with Moon Boots, Yolanda Be Cool, aRod, Ruby Sparks, and more. Check after the jump for music!

Lightning In A Bottle | Lineup | Tickets | Set Times

Kraak & Smaak are a trio from the Netherlands who have that whole “anti-genre” vibe about them that we love. You’ll find hints of jazz, disco, funk, indie, soul, pop, and house all throughout their music. Their 2013 album Chrome Waves is one of my favourites. They also host a weekly show on Sublime FM called Keep on Searching that spotlights the current underground as well as some rare, old school, dug-up tracks. It’s amazing.

They’re playing at 8:50pm on Saturday at the Lightning Stage – don’t miss out on what is promising to be a smooth and funky set.

LIB Spotlight brings attention to special artists that will be featured at Lightning In A Bottle Fest 2014.
Some we love. Some we just discovered. All essential.

APEX TOUR

There’s nothing quite like a warehouse party. There’s nothing quite like deep house and minimal techno out of primo speakers. Throw the two together and you’ve got yourself a guaranteed amazing time. Last Friday, APEX and LOT 613 definitely proved this point. We heard complaints of long lines and the like, but we got there at opening so we’ve got no say in that. The vibe once we were inside was perfect; the energy was palpable.

There were 2 rooms as well as an outside patio so there wasn’t ever too large a crowd in one spot. The visuals from Strangeloop were projected on pretty much every surface, which added to the whole underground warehouse rave vibe. That and the whole ending at 4am thing.

We got in for Droog to warm up and then moseyed on over to the Mateo Warehouse for Split Secs – definitely not a disappointment – my “got-to-see” for the night. There was no separator between the DJ booth and the crowd which made it even cooler.

PillowTalk | Buy Je Ne Sais Quoi

Wolf+Lamb artists PillowTalk believe in sexy-smooth; 2011’s The Come Back exposed me to that. Their recent (and first) LP Je Ne Sais Quoi is a fusion of R&B, disco, house, dance, pop, and techno [D.A.G.!] that has surpassed all my expectations and has taken over our ears here at C+A+D. It’s been nearly 2 months of listening and we’re still finding out why we love it so much.

I like to think it is due to the heart-warming dreaminess in each track. Opener, ‘Our Story’, sets it up perfectly – this album is a soulful sonic dance adventure. The stories may differ, but the feel-good soul is absolute. They’ve put Je Ne Sais Quoi up for your free streaming pleasure on SoundCloud. Show the crew some love and buy it!

While you’re here, check out one of my all-time favourite mixes too.

Addal

I first found out about Alessandro Addea, stage name: Addal, at the end of Coachella Weekend 1. EMOTIONAL #3 provided the perfect net for the oft-dreaded Coachella Blues. I delved deeper into his sound and lost myself in love with the headiness of Waves ft. Neenah and Morning In Love ft. Lisa May.

A few days ago, along came EMOTIONAL #4; hands down one of the best mixes I’ve heard in a while. The seemingly random, yet undeniably appropriate, genre mix of songs (ZHU and Shiba San come out of nowhere) is an attestation to his skill. It will transport you into another dimension right from the get-go. I’m definitely looking forward to a live set.
