LA’s premier music festival, HARD, is coming up this weekend and it boasts one of the better lineups we’ve seen this season. (Sunday Funday anyone?) To help kick off the party early, we’ll be hosting a HSMF pre-party. Headlining the night will be Light Year whose genre blending style still holds a place in our hearts; his HARD 2012 set was something else.
The homie Bones, RYME, and Graff will be providing support for the night. Special guests will be rolling through as well to help keep the moods going. It’s going to be a big night. See you there and again at HARD!

While his solo work tends to veer a bit more into ambient and experimental house, Fort Romeau’s remixes and mixed sets are chock full of groovier dancefloor house rhythms. This installment of WAVS will highlight his skill in skirting those lines. His mixing is always done live and flows to the mood of the crowd, so don’t expect any cookie cutter stylizations. One of the fastest rising lyricists in the future beats/bounce scene, GoldLink has been getting major attention this past year. His 2014 mixtape The God Complex was the definitive marker of his skill with flow and social commentary. He blends the two together into energetic and sporadic rap that is no less than impressive. And with a voice as unique as his, it’s hard not to pay attention.

Peanut Butter Wolf is one of the most respected DJs of the past 20 years. His knowledge of all things music has allowed him to lead the famous Stones Throw Records – responsible for some of the better releases of our age. With his coffer as thick as it is, his performances become extended adventures through some of the best underground sounds new and old. Expect to hear some rare and funky tunes.

Daniel Goldstein, or Lane 8 only seems to get better with time; we always make it a point to support him whenever he comes around SoCal and we’re never disappointed. With his debut album, Rise, dropping the day the fest begins, we can expect him to play a rather emotional set. And judging from the prime vocal features on the album, we’re hoping for some special guest appearances.
