After attending Coachella for many years, I’ve never seen people dump their tickets for less than face value. This year is different though. Tickets are floating around abundantly like helium balloons at a Honda dealership. I think it has to do with Coachella’s more minimalistic lineup. There’s no mass appeal, at all. Perhaps the “fans” don’t realize (or have the patience to discover) how many hidden gems are stacked on the bill. 2013 is the year of deep house. Deepchella.

Ranked from absolutely must see to house lovers only

HVOB

Her Voice Over Boys (HVOB) is Anna Müller and Paul Wallner from Austria. They started a deep house project in 2012 and are already making their presence known in the European scene with appearances at UAF and Melt!. For 2013, they’re slated for Lighthouse and a return to UAF among many other shows.

When we heard their debut album (which you can buy here), we immediately fell in love with the amazingly gentle vibes. Their music is unavoidable if your demeanor is demanding time to chill out. The resonant bass, hypnotic melodies, and lullaby-like vocals will surely set the mood for meditation.

Throw on some headphones, close your eyes, and drift off into grey matter. No worries, you visual types have not been left out. HVOB has taken up arms with the VDJ team at Lichterloh to present you with sublime images to go along with their beautiful music.

Allow me to introduce Parov Stelar; a very unique Austrian Producer and DJ. He’s one of the many electronic artists who are currently reviving big band and swing music. I couldn’t be happier with this movement! Parov is credited with the creation of the Electroswing genre. You can’t help but feel that this is swing music for the 21st century, complete with all the trumpets, synthesizer, saxophone, and bass you’d ever need for the new age. The best part is that he’ll be touring with his live trio. Meaning that there will be live instruments! You’re almost guaranteed to nod your head, tap your foot and just groove out to these tunes. Consider adding him to your Coachooser for Sunday.

The saying ‘more is better’ is a definitive truth when the heads behind C2C are accounted for. Formerly known as Coups2Cross, these four Frenchies from Nantes are no strangers to a turntable. In fact, they have 4 DMC World DJ Championships combined! As C2C they bring a unique style to the scene that is best described as down-home jazz, bluegrass, and hip-hop gospel electro – doubly interesting considering their geographical origins. Their breakout hit Down the Road characterizes all of this.

If finding new and interesting music is your bag or if you just enjoy some good ol’ jive, come hang out with us on Friday.

Breakbot | SoundLogik | Amplified Access

What started out as an unexpected trip, turned out to be one of the best adventures of my life. For those who are new, I kind of like Breakbot. A lot. He’s not only a big inspiration, but one of the most well respected DJs and revered producers in the world. The initial plan was to catch him at the first of his SoCal tour dates in Hollywood on Friday. One sold out show, rushed group of friends, empty stomach, and bottle service later; I’m leaving the show early. Long story short, of course. I’ll spare you. Shout out to Bondax, though! I do remember them. Anyway, I woke up devastated. Depite having a busy Saturday in LA, I rendezvoused south bound with some of the crew. Arriving at the hidden venue moments before Breakbot’s midnight settime gave me a sense of accomplishment. Little did I know that after walking through those doors, I was about to get much more than I missed. Check after the jump for more on the night and music!

Four years after the release of their debut album, New Orleans natives Generationals have released their third album “Heza.” Like their first two albums, it is sunny and nostalgic, poppy and vaguely reminiscent of an age long gone. It plays it safe for the most part, not straying far from their sonic 1960s crooning jams. That might be a good thing, and indeed the album is quite strong. The biggest qualm I might have with this album is it might be too safe. Some of the songs sleepily blur into the next without anything horribly memorable about it. The pinnacle of the album “Put a Light On” is most reminiscent of their first album. There really aren’t any noteworthy “weaknesses,” though. “Heza” is yet another great effort from a consistently great band.

Track List

1. Spinoza

AMTRAC | Bit Funk

After our first night in the heart of Hollywood last week, it seems all is well on the horizon. We were just anxious to finally get started! With each passing week, we strive to tighten all the loose bolts; creating the perfect night. It’s all about the experience with the Polaroid Thursdays. Well our quest to perfection wouldn’t be complete without quality talent. That’s why for our second show we’ve got debatably our best lineup: Amtrac & Bit Funk. I had the pleasure of finally catching Amtrac throw down a high energy set at SXSW. Meeting him shortly thereafter in the pit for Disclosure only heightened my respect for this Florida native. Bit Funk will set the tone early with his grooving basslines and dream like records.

Check after the jump for more music and your chance to win one of five tickets
to our followup event of the series! Stream and download Amtrac’s EP for FREE here.
