[Concert Recall] Amplified Access & Soundlogik Presents: Breakbot + Irfane @ Spin San Diego

Breakbot | SoundLogik | Amplified Access

What started out as an unexpected trip, turned out to be one of the best adventures of my life. For those who are new, I kind of like Breakbot. A lot. He’s not only a big inspiration, but one of the most well respected DJs and revered producers in the world. The initial plan was to catch him at the first of his SoCal tour dates in Hollywood on Friday. One sold out show, rushed group of friends, empty stomach, and bottle service later; I’m leaving the show early. Long story short, of course. I’ll spare you. Shout out to Bondax, though! I do remember them. Anyway, I woke up devastated. Depite having a busy Saturday in LA, I rendezvoused south bound with some of the crew. Arriving at the hidden venue moments before Breakbot’s midnight settime gave me a sense of accomplishment. Little did I know that after walking through those doors, I was about to get much more than I missed. Check after the jump for more on the night and music!

We explore the club as Irfane wrapped up his set. Packed. Fog machines. Lasers galore. Disco balls. I think I counted five disco balls. Talk about setting the bar. We walked upstairs to an indoor balcony and restrooms; only to find a third story roof for the smokers. The speakers all throughout the venue were playing the main room’s sound. Why would they play anything else? It was perfect.

When “Baby I’m Yours” came on, we were convinced Breakbot had taken to the decks. I guess because Irfane sings in the song, it’s okay for him to close with it. People were still rushing the pit. Tensions were high. Some girl stepped on my foot and threw a drink in my face (what?). But I made it to the front. Irfane was finishing his set. Breakbot hung out close behind and waited before he came to give Irfane his well deserved shout out (pictured above). Irfane’s exit indicated the highly anticipated and built up following hours I’ve been waiting for. Breakbot was on his way. The clock showed 12:15.

The first half hour was all the disco I wanted to get lost in. The pit became a flowing ocean of smiles from ear to ear. The music was our tide. Everyone was chanting, singing, and fully in sync. This is the kind of energy that turns a good show into a great show. It doesn’t come often. I started to catch wind of a song I’ve been hung up on recently, and it was just that day I had found out what it was. Irfane felt the urge to come out, grab the mic, and shout to the audience how much he loved the upcoming track. Then he dropped it. Skream’s remix of Duke Dumont’s “Need U (100%).” I can guantee half the crowd had never heard this track before, but they were losing their shit. Breakbot was toying with the crowd; riling them up with TNGHT’s “Higher Ground.” Every time I thought, “How could this possibly get any better?” He’d go and drop something like Daft Punk’s “Da Funk” or Michael Jackson’s “PYT.”

By the time Irfane had returned towards the tail end of the night and gone back to back with Breakbot, the clock was about to strike 4AM. A set dreams were made of. Breakbot is one of those artists that whatever he plays is right. Whatever he plays is next. Whatever he plays is cool. And I got ~4 hours of that.
