Got a bunch of tracks I wanna share with yall, across genres as we like to do over here. Strap in, these’ll take you on a moodcoaster.

(Hip Hop)

First up is Asher Roth‘s Ampersand, a laid back tune that Mr. Roth dropped to go with the rainy weather that’s currently taking over the East Coast. He does it dirty with his usual alliteration over a mellow beat. Always love the random track releases from Asher, look out for his album soon.

Asher Roth – Ampersand (prod. by Blended Babies)

(Electro)

Next is another Pretty Lights mashup, this time with Led Zeppelin. I really don’t see myself ever not enjoying a Pretty Lights song. Here he mixes his head bangin’ beats with a gritty electric guitar. Anyone know what Led Zeppelin song this is mixed with?

Pretty Lights vs. Led Zeppelin

(House/Electro)

Mau5trap spoiled us the last couple days, with the official release of Deadmau5’s “Where Are My Keys” and a new distorted, thumping electro banger from Feed Me. This track isn’t as glitchy as what we’ve heard from Feed Me before, more tolerant to the listener who can’t handle the usual grime. Very melodic and he’s still got the crispest hard electro sound I’ve heard from any artist.

Feed Me – Cott’s Face

(Hip Hop)

Epic released another track yesterday off his upcoming EP, Third Shift. This one features Jhene Aiko, and has more of an R&B vibe than his other stuff. I love focused songwriting and this definitely demonstrates that. The concept behind his mixtape is very interesting – more on that soon when the tape is released.

Epic – Love Changes (ft. Jhene Aiko)

(Hip Hop)

Finally, we have a new track from Mac Miller, who may be the most popular artist in hip-hop right now. This is a short 2 minute jam produced by Clams Casino, but it bangs. Definitely a heavier beat than Mac usually works with, but he goes in as he usually does. This one won’t be featured on Blue Slide Park.

Mac Miller – Cold Feet

This week, don’t sleep on Colorado’s finest: Pretty Lights. Consisting of Producer/DJ Derek Smith with Adam Deitch bangin’ the drums at live shows, Pretty Lights is one of the leaders in what’s quickly becoming one of my favorite genres: a fusion of electro and instrumental hip-hop. This perfectly welded sound comes from a seamless integration of hard electronic synths with the strong bass and snare elements of hip-hop. Throw in a myriad of other delightful sounds, including piano melodies, and his craft has succeeded in creating what you’d call groovy ear candy. If your head or body has no impulse to move/groove/shake/nod/whatever while listening to a track, I’d contact a physician ASAP because I think you might have mono. The best part of artists with this type of sound is it’s very easily enjoyed by anyone — it’s a great gateway style for those that are turned off by glitchy rough electro, especially those whose tastes lean in the hip hop direction. After performing at Coachella in 2010, the duo has gone on tour and pleased many crowds with what is apparently an amazing live show that features visually stimulating components (this has always been a no-brainer to me for artists). I still haven’t had the chance to catch a performance. (Skinny Genes went last year and forgot to hit me up about it… still harboring a good amount of hatred deep inside). If all this isn’t good enough, ALL his music is available for free on his website. You can catch him at Identity Festival in LA on September 4th, as well as Vegas, Northern California, and other cities across the country on the festival’s tour.

Pretty Lights – Fly Away Another Day
Pretty Lights – City of One
Pretty Lights – Chicago Bulls Theme Remix
+had to include this, since the Lakeshow crumbled I’m pullin for DRose and Co. Plus that theme has always been ‘epic,’ great spin on it.

BONUS

The latest offerings from Drake… seeing some maturity from Drizzy. A lot of people hate what he’s become but I’m still a fan.
Drake – Dreams Money Can Buy
SBTRKT – Wildfire Remix ft. Yukimi (Little Dragon) & Drake+++

Another day, another dollar. Another week, another playlist. I just shuffled through my library for this one. A little less personal, but it will get the job done. I’ve been needing a new mix. It’s week zero for UC people…when the regulated parties bring you down, listen to this:

Delightful Mention!

Artist: sebastiAn

I’ve mentioned this guy in past posts, and by good reason. If you haven’t picked up some of his stuff yet, now is the time. sebastiAn has been with me since the beginning of my electronic music escapades. He has a sound and style that is unmatchable by anyone else. It’s kinda dark, has a lot of quick samples, that I feel would take ages to put together in the way that he does, and it’s bassy as can be…he makes sure of it. He’s also on Ed Banger Records, which is one of, if not THE most renowned electronic music labels in the world. With acts like Justice, Mr. Oizo, Uffie, DJ Mehdi and headed by Busy P, you can bet they wouldn’t be on their for nothing. sebastiAn made a CD full of remixes that you can get here. It’s a compilation of everything he’s remixed from 2005-2008. All good. All necessary.

Artist: Pretty Lights
I’ve been getting more and more into Pretty Lights as the days go by. They’ve been recommended to me on numerous occasions and have been at a lot of the festivals I’ve been to. For some reason, I have yet to see them. Apparently, their live show is where they get a lot of their acclaim. Pretty Lights consists of DJ/producer Derek Vincent Smith and Adam Deitch on drums, for live shows. They are very comparable The Glitch Mob, but still have their own thing going on. Smith started off producing a lot of hip hop beats early on and the result was Pretty Lights. He samples a lot of vintage, funky soul songs and mixes it up with his take on hip hop and synthy electro. A very unique sounds that makes for a pleasant listen. All of their albums are available to download for FREE on their website. He requests a small donation if possible. For these tunes, I can make the sacrifice.

There you have it folks. School is almost in session…let’s hope it doesn’t restrict the flow of posts. The YOLO lists are too fun.
