Mac Miller

A handful of solid new tracks this week. Another good track from Ab-Soul who keeps consistently putting out good music of substance. Couple from Mac Miller, one featuring Diggy Simmons who just confused me with that verse. Male Nikki? I don’t understand. Fashawn hooked up with Wiz Khalifa and made a solid crusin jam. Still waiting on Wiz to spit an original thought. Cormega, Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, Saigon teamed up to create the super group M.A.R.S…. the first track getting me excited for things to come, just bars. Bronsolino’s gonna have a great year. And J. Cole also hooked it up with an unreleased song too. Good ass week. Here’s to a better one next week.

Ab-Soul – Showin Love
Mac Miller ft. Diggy Simmons – Definition of Cool
Mac Miller – Loud
Wiz Khalifa – Money (ft. Fashawn)
Cormega, Action Bronson, Ron Marciano, Saigon (M.A.R.S.) – MARS
J. Cole – Visionz of Home

On November 8th, Mac Miller released his debut to the world outside of the 1m+ twitter followers and countless youtube viewers he’s racked up. He shortly thereafter became the first independent artist to hit #1 on the Billboard charts since 1995, a testament to the strength of his fanbase. The buzz he built without a major label is more impressive than label-mate Wiz Khalifa’s because the foundation was a series of very well received mixtapes and gradual ascent rather than a hit that found its way to the airwaves. And also because he has, you know, talent. Blue Slide Park is a deeper look into the mind of Malcolm McCormick, a young artist who has made his way into the limelight and the struggle to prove that he’s stayed true to his roots. The message is clear throughout the album–

| They thought the money shoulda changed it/Slide still blue why the world keep trying to paint it?/ When life around you changes/Try to keep your sameness/Try to keep your brain, maintaining through the lameness. |

Sometimes the ears aren’t enough. Don’t neglect your eyes, here’s some fresh videos since MTV’s been reduced to cameras following tools that even Tim Allen wouldn’t support.Mac’s full commercial takeover commences November 8th when Blue Slide Park drops. I love music that puts me in a good mood and he never seems to fail. His style/message is literally SPF 40 hater-block. This beat samples the track that if you don’t get hype for it’s solely because you’re sole-less. + keep an eye out for the Diamond Supply Co. x Mac Miller crewneck. Love that music and clothing are colliding.

It’s Hoodie! Hoodie’s almost a guilty pleasure because his style is slightly ‘pop’py, but he keeps his rhymes on point and his flow is so goddamn catchy. So fuck off for anyone that makes me feel guilty. This track’s about James Franco from Leap Year. You know about the crazy shit James Franco does?!

Hello friends! It’s been a minute — I’m finally feeling somewhat settled out here in Barcelona and starting to think I may never return to the US. Beautiful women, amazing architecture, siestas, and an overflow of opportunities to see great electronic music. If they had animal fries out here that’d seal the deal. Anywho, more on the city later when I have some stuff to stimulate your ojos. For now your ears will have to take in the jams that have provided the soundtrack for the city. Hit the jump to hear ’em all. (more…)

Got a bunch of tracks I wanna share with yall, across genres as we like to do over here. Strap in, these’ll take you on a moodcoaster.

(Hip Hop)

First up is Asher Roth‘s Ampersand, a laid back tune that Mr. Roth dropped to go with the rainy weather that’s currently taking over the East Coast. He does it dirty with his usual alliteration over a mellow beat. Always love the random track releases from Asher, look out for his album soon.

Asher Roth – Ampersand (prod. by Blended Babies)

(Electro)

Next is another Pretty Lights mashup, this time with Led Zeppelin. I really don’t see myself ever not enjoying a Pretty Lights song. Here he mixes his head bangin’ beats with a gritty electric guitar. Anyone know what Led Zeppelin song this is mixed with?

Pretty Lights vs. Led Zeppelin

(House/Electro)

Mau5trap spoiled us the last couple days, with the official release of Deadmau5’s “Where Are My Keys” and a new distorted, thumping electro banger from Feed Me. This track isn’t as glitchy as what we’ve heard from Feed Me before, more tolerant to the listener who can’t handle the usual grime. Very melodic and he’s still got the crispest hard electro sound I’ve heard from any artist.

Feed Me – Cott’s Face

(Hip Hop)

Epic released another track yesterday off his upcoming EP, Third Shift. This one features Jhene Aiko, and has more of an R&B vibe than his other stuff. I love focused songwriting and this definitely demonstrates that. The concept behind his mixtape is very interesting – more on that soon when the tape is released.

Epic – Love Changes (ft. Jhene Aiko)

(Hip Hop)

Finally, we have a new track from Mac Miller, who may be the most popular artist in hip-hop right now. This is a short 2 minute jam produced by Clams Casino, but it bangs. Definitely a heavier beat than Mac usually works with, but he goes in as he usually does. This one won’t be featured on Blue Slide Park.

Mac Miller – Cold Feet

As promised here’s the first single and accompanying video off of Mac Miller‘s debut album Blue Slide Park. This song’s got hard hitting bass like a dubstep song and gets psychedelic halfway through. Way different than shit he’s done before in a good way. His buzz keeps building… I really think he won’t disappoint with the album despite the expectations. Even Donald Trump approves.
