Sweater Beats | Download Cloud City FREE

Sweater Beats’ [Antonio Cuna] forthcoming EP, Cloud City, is full of high-energy R&B beats we’ve come to love from him. In this EP, he sends us soaring by lifting the dreamy beats with aerated synths and piano riffs. The added vocals from soulstress allie on ‘Dark Matter’ are a welcome bonus. Here’s to hoping this beat-maker’s future reaches new heights as well.

The Free EP comes out via HW&W tomorrow [10|28]. Get it, and then be sure to catch him at Day of the Dead this weekend!

Mazde

Everyone has their own ‘special secret’ artist. Mazde was mine. But seeing as the boys at Stoney Roads know a thing or two about making a splash with their new record label, I figure the cat is out of the bag.

No worries though, cause this German is absolutely worth the attention. His remixes and their resemblance to Flume are likely what gained him followers [definitely got me]. His sound, and Shifted Thoughts, pushes on much more like the Fluminati had a sizzurp party.

Desert Hearts | Tickets | DH Records

What started from humble beginnings of chasing love through sound in the naked deserts of California has since evolved into a weekend long gathering of like minded, world loving, wildly accepting and passionate souls. Our first introduction to the Desert Hearts crew was at LIB 2014‘s The Ditch when Mikey Lion and Lee Reynolds guided us into the sunrise.

Mikey Lion Live @ Desert Hearts

From November 7th through November 10th, we’ll be joining the Desert Hearts crew in their natural habitat. They will be curating their Second Anniversary of renegade love at Los Coyotes Indian Reservation. We missed out on their spring installment – and some chance snowfall – and we’re not keen on doing that again. You shouldn’t be either. Especially with a lineup like this. If you’re a fan of the famed Robot Heart, then you’ll recognize quite a few names such as Francesca Lombardo and Benjamin Alexander. But Funktion-Ones and 70 hours of the best house and techno aren’t the only reason to attend. Rather, they are but means to help escape the turmoil of concrete and asphalt; and to encouraging self-expression.

If you’ve ever been interested in experiencing the artistry and creative magic of Burning Man or LIB, then Desert Hearts will definitely provide you a worthy glimpse. Strap on some dust kickers, pack a tent, snacks, and join us as we celebrate life, art, earth, and music with the Desert Hearts crew. But remember, bring it all back out with you. No trash is the best trash.

Tickets are still available! The community begins on Friday at 10am. Music starts at 4pm Friday and continues until Monday at noon. Tickets include entrance, camping, and access to all open kitchens, theme camps, and art installations.

Avatism Live @ Panorama Bar

Missouri’s Fresing throws together a bunch of discordance to make beauty out of the chaos of differences. Add to that the experimental nature of his music, piano riffs, and the sound bites from cinema classics and you’ve got some of the most next level music we’ve heard in a while.

Boys Noize | Baauer

A week prior to this event, our hearts were in somber spirits when it was announced that RunX had been cancelled. We had high hopes for the trap and hip-hop heavy sounds of Nadus, Lido, Spank Rock, Baauer, and, of course, Boys Noize. While his festival presence consists mostly of electro, Boys Noize’s intimate sets are a whole different animal that we haven’t experienced since NYE2014.

Boys Noize – 60 Min Triple J DJ Set

Baauer – Soulja

Much to our delight, the LA show at Club Nokia was preserved [sans Lido]. We stepped into the spacious theatre as Baauer was taking over the decks; and boy did he start his set off right. There was a minute of cinematic and triumphant sounds as he appeared on stage underneath a yellow spotlight. And then a heavy dosing of trap and hip-hop took over just as we expected [check the vid we got below!]. The lighting was provided via a pillar of spotlights: reds, yellows, whites, greens, and blues were the night’s colors. It wasn’t on the level of the Tower of Baauer, but much of the show was focused on the music anyway. As it should be.

The transition to Boys Noize was seamless. And the vibes just kept rolling. More rap, trap, hip-hop to sate our ‘all-black-everything’ souls. The occasional dark electro found its way into the set, which garnered audible appreciation from the crowd. The energy from the DJ’s was contagious and the excitement was definitely noticed in the audience. It’s unfortunate that only LA got to experience this coming together. But the tour was cancelled for the purposes of new music. So, we can only hope RunX 2.0 comes around sooner rather than later. And with some new fire to boot.

Blood Moon | Imaginary Friends

The homies at Imaginary Friends recently launched their record label and like many of the independent labels nowadays, their goal is a respectable one:

“we started Imaginary Friends as a way to help up and coming independent artists and our friends get the attention we feel they deserve. Music these days, even on the independent level, is so unfortunately wrapped up in its own set of politics, numbers games and hype calculating. Imaginary Friends is our response to those things we’re tired of [. . .]. Our primary goal is to work with people and music we feel strongly about, nothing more and nothing less.”

To show they mean business, they’ve kicked off with the release of Brooklyn’s Blood Moon’s [Jesse Brickel] premiere track ‘Ghost’. 80’s-heavy synths and forlorn lyrics create the nostalgic, slightly melancholic, and definitely catchy indie-pop sound that we love. His debut EP, Cosmic Sands, comes out November 11. Pre-order it here.
