Miami HorrorTickets

This Friday, we’re getting Aussie Indie-pop-funky to celebrate the start of Summer. The Nu-Disco sounds of Miami Horror will be a welcome end to this crazy week of weather. There’s nothing quite like vocals with indie-disco sounds to set us in the perfect mood for the sunny months to come. The homies Torosbros and Wet Hand Dan will be leading off.

Come hang and enjoy some warm spirits!

Miami Horror – THUMP Mix

Pacific Festival | Tickets

Next weekend – August 16th – marks the return of Pacific Festival. Hosted inside the Back Bay Dunes of Newport Beach, this festival is a single day of ‘hip’ culture and sound that signifies summer in Southern California. Indie dance pop, sunshine tinged electronics, craft brews, and culinary skill on wheels are brought together to provide you with a day’s respite. There will be returning summer staples with new material (Poolside, Bag Raiders, Miami Horror[LIVE!]) as well as more acts that have been making quite a name for themselves (De Lux, Painted Palms, Cherry Glazerr, among many others).

Don’t think we forgot special guests and in-house favourite Holy Ghost! who are, arguably, at the helm of the post-punk, indie-dance scene. We’ve seen them quite a few times and have yet to be disappointed. Every one of their sets is packed with synth-heavy, melodic, and utterly cool vibes that we wish never end. They’re undoubtedly one of our favorite acts to see live and they’re coming to our home town! More details and contest below!!

It seems like I’ve been stumbling across a lot of pretty great indie remixes lately. I always love seeing how an artist envisions another’s song, especially when it’s another indie band adding their own spin to an already great indie track (as with the following). Here we’ve got Cut Copy remixing The Rapture, Yeasayer remixing Fanfarlo, The Naked and Famous remixing Unknown Mortal Orchestra and more. I actually prefer some of these to the original song, so I’d strongly recommend checking these out if you’re into that kind of thing. I know I am.

Sail Away (Cut Copy Remix) by The Rapture
Ffunny Frends (The Naked and Famous Remix) by Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Heart Attack (CSS Remix) by Asteroids Galaxy Tour
Shiny Things (Yeasayer Remix) by Fanfarlo
Hiccups (Butcher Blades Icecream Nightmare Remix) by Jinja Safari

With the emergence and booming success of the likes of RAC and Starslinger, Indie remixes are becoming increasingly popular on the music scene. These most likely aren’t the kind of remixes you’ll hear at a party or at a rave. Typically, they’re the instances of a musician or a band adding their own colors and flair to another artist’s work. They usually don’t meddle with the song to the point where it’s something completely different. RAC for instance, has a knack for taking an already original and hooky track and embellishing it without disemboweling it. A lot of times I think these reworked songs are better than the original. Plus it’s always cool to see how one artist envisions another’s song.

From the recesses of my iTunes I bring you another compilation of these remixes. Some of the following are rather old, others are more recent. Some are obvious remixes, others could be mistaken for an original if you weren’t already familiar with the song. What they have in common though is undeniable catchiness. Enjoy yo’self.
