Private Label | Tickets

Private Label will be ending the workweek right on schedule. This time around, they’ve teamed up with the French powerhouse label Kitsuné, who will be bringing their famed Club Night to Hollywood. This is kind of a big deal. And by kind of we mean a huge deal. Disco heads know what we’re in for here. This iteration has the famed Frenchmen Fred Falke and Lifelike (Heinrich Laurent) alongside Michigan’s Chrome Sparks (Jeremy Malvin of Miniature Tigers) mixing nu-disco, house, new wave and funk all night for our ears’ enjoyment and our feet’s fancy.

Buy your tickets using the link above or get lucky with our giveaway. Then come join us this Friday in giving a warm welcome to Kitsuné. Check the giveaway and a grip of songs after the jump!

24/31 Days

Brainchild of Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and Raf Rundell (of Greco-Roman Soundsystem), The 2 Bears are two chaps from London with deeply established roots in the UK music scene. Their influence across the pond is definitely noticeable in the type of sounds that have been coming out of Europe lately. Their debut album Be Strong showcases their music as a curious mixture of house, funk, disco, dance, and soul.

They play Saturday. We suggest stopping by their set if you’re chasing that feel good vibe. You won’t be disappointed. Then pay (the very busy) Joe Goddard another visit, we assume later on in the day, for Coachella regulars Hot Chip and see what he can do when he’s got a live band behind his voice.

This is 26 days too late, but better late than never. Those of us who haven’t lived under a rock have clearly noted the impact of EDM, with DJs and producers moving en masse towards plastic feeling happy chords, radio-friendly vocals and generic “drops.” It may have been ubiquitous this year, but with producers such as Disclosure, Cyril Hahn, Snakehips and Maribou State keeping the quality standards high, I’m hardly complaining.

Trapstyle, in all of its over-hyped glory, continued to develop at a head-spinning rate thanks to the sheer restlessness of its key protagonists (Flosstradamus, Baauer, RL Grime and UZ). On the other hand, disco dug its platformed heels into all things shiny; from revivalist edits, to contemporary cuts and a newfound appreciation of the originals themselves (RIP Donna Summer). Thanks to Aeroplane, Breakbot, Cherokee and the like, it seems all was good under the disco ball.

So what musical movement is in store for 2013? Well, your guess is good as mine. What I can say with certainty, though, is that aside from electronic music’s lust for the latest trends, good music is good music. Hopefully this list proves it.

Just a heads up that C+A+D favorite RAC (Remix Artist Collective) has another remix compilation set to release on November 6th called Chapter One. Interesting title, because it makes it sound like it’s their first compilation. Which it isn’t. You can download their past compilations for free on their website by clicking here and going to their “Releases” tab. This is a little teaser to get us hyped, and it does just that! Classic Chromeo track? Fresh new twist by professional remixers making a name for themselves? I think yes!

Check out our interview with them here!
