RAC | Buy Strangers

Andre Anjos has been building a name for himself as a remix artist extraordinaire. On top of all the skill he’s built over the years comes an LP that consists solely of his own work. Rife with the sprightly indie-pop instrumental goodness we love, Strangers also packs a tropical vocal punch from some of the biggest acts out there (to name a few: Alex Ebert, Tegan & Sara, and St. Lucia). Now, please excuse us while we take these catchy vibes out.

Come dance with us in Santa Ana on April 9th. An RAC live set is nothing short of stellar. Tickets are still on sale!

Devonté Hynes, as Blood Orange, belts out soulful coastal pop. You’ll hear tinges of 80’s heartbreak disco ballads in his music too. While they may linger on the side of sorrow, the lyrics combined with flowing instrumentals bring about a special kind of calm. Considering all the guest appearances on Cupid Deluxe, you can be sure to see a party on stage Saturday.

Foster the People | Buy Supermodel

Foster the People’s sophomore release just hit the market. 3 years in the making, Supermodel could have taken the radio-pop ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ route or a more ‘I Would Do Anything for You’ approach. We were both surprised and pleased the trio chose to move towards the latter. Don’t get us wrong, we love the catchy tracks of Torches (‘Best Friend’ will satisfy that), but Supermodel‘s gritty and introspective direction just seemed like a more appropriate path after all this time. See it as a ‘Coming of Age’ if you will.

This album takes on a cohesiveness that requires it to be listened to in full. Cherry-picking tracks doesn’t do it justice or convey the right effect. With its self-reflective start off, Supermodel locks you in by the time you reach ‘Pseudologia Fantastica’. It resurges with the poppy climax of ‘Best Friend’. By ‘Fire Escape’, Mark Foster is all burned out – the respite is welcome (to pre-orders) before the psychedelic trip of ‘Tabloid Super Junkie’. All in all, it looks like we’ll be setting the schedule to enjoy some Foster the People come Coachella Saturday (26/33 days left!).

Tracklisting

1. Foster the People – Are You What You Want to Be?
2. Foster the People – Ask Yourself
3. Foster the People – Coming of Age
4. Foster the People – Nevermind

Leo Kalyan | SoundCloud

London dreamer Leo Kalyan has been on our radar for a while; his remixes and covers are nothing short of sexy. His mashup-cover of Duke Dumont’s ‘Need U 100% ft. A*M*E’ and Jessie Ware’s ‘Running’ was what caught our ear. His recent original ‘Temptation’ sparked this spotlight. It’s like silk.

Being compared to The Beatles is no easy feat. The boys of Temples have, however, absolutely earned the distinction. As soon as ‘Shelter Song’ made its way to the airwaves, the music world knew an iconic Psychedelic-Pop band of our age was born. Since then, every release they’ve put out has received coverage from nearly every taste maker in the game. Their album Sun Structures is definitely among our favourite trips of the year thus far. We’ll be looking forward to the tapestry of colour across the heavens in whats looking to be the perfect Saturday sunset set.

Having missed Parov Stelar last year due to illness, we’ve yet to quench our electro-swing thirst. This year Goldenvoice decided to remedy the misfortune by inviting Caravan Palace to the desert oasis. As the genre suggests, they put a modern twist on the happy-go-lucky dance of the Roaring Twenties. Keep your eyes off the clock. Forget the green light’s beckon. Dig up your suspenders, derby hats, cloches, and flapper skirts; let’s have ourselves a rowdy ragtime on Friday.
