SPOON

After SPOON went to their Facebook to post a cover photo with the words ‘R.I.P.’, I wasn’t sure how to interpret it. I refused to believe that they were breaking up. One of Americas finest rock bands calling it quits? No way. After impatiently waiting, we were pleased to find out their upcoming album They Want My Soul would see its release date on August 5th. And the single will be aptly named Rent I Pay…alright. Thanks Yoda. I mean, I’ll take it. The song has just the raw and grit they’ve always been keen to deliver. Simple. Effective. Spoon. Splash House | $50 Single Day Tix | Room Packages

The good news has seemed to continue rolling in the last few days for San Francisco’s Giraffage. Might we add, very deservedly so. This guy has been flying under the radar for the past year; getting claim and respect from all the outlets and artists that know their shit. But yesterday and today mark a new chapter to the life of Charlie Yin’s R&Bass alias.

While being freshly listed as direct support for Porter Robinson’s highly anticipated WORLDS tour the other day, he was just added to the ranks of A-Trak’s Fools Gold Records. To celebrate these announcements, Charlie released a booming remix of R. Kelly’s Ignition that’s sure to make it’s rounds this summer. He took a break from his usual low key vibe on tracks to put a little more hype into this release. The floaty arpeggios slam into the old school synths and give life to this classic track in a whole new way. Nebbra | Soundcloud

Parisian Nebbra is taking the electro hip-hop and trap influence and turning it on its head. He throws all the cuts, cymbals, chimes, whistles, pitched vocals, and hip-hop beats we’re familiar with thanks to Flume on top of calmer indie tracks to create extremely innovative chill music. He switched to this style from nu-disco 3 months ago and has since put out 5 remixes. His “Fall In Love” take even won Phantogram’s remix contest. Each one shows him experimenting deeper and deeper with this type of sound. All we can say is: we can’t wait to see how far this goes.

Lightning In A Bottle | The Do Lab

The Do LaB’s flagship festival, Lightning in a Bottle, attracts some of the weirdest people – in the best of ways – we’ve ever met. For two of us, this was our first time attending a “transformational” festival and it definitely won’t be our last. For years, we had to deal with all our other friends expressing how amazing the “vibe” was. We finally got to find out first hand at the 2014 installment. Check after the jump for how it went.
