I rarely get this excited over “buzzy” shit, but I’m all about Team Banks right now. She’s just the walking, spittin’, flowy little k-word that we need right now. What do you kids think? Over the top wannabe gangsta shit? Or a rough-n-tumble, not-giving a fuck, let’s see how many forties we can kill before its noon shit? I choose the latter. Day 2 of Coachella. You already know.

Noel and Liam Gallagher, frontmen of multiplatnum rock outfit Oasis, are some of the most musically gifted assholes out there. Oasis has really come to represent a generation for me. The clashing ruckus of the idleness of youth with the intensity of growing up, compressed into sweepingly beautiful rock melodies. Everything, aside from their notorious dick attitudes, was wondrously constructed. To this day, few bands are able to impart the degree of nostalgia associated with Oasis. What’s more, they’ve been cited as influence for many prominent musicians today, but really, their music is timeless.

Oasis-Don’t Look Back In Anger (Acoustic)

After Oasis split-up, Noel and Liam went off and started their own side-projects, Noel’s arguably gaining more attention. Of the two brothers, Noel tended to take the backstage more. This is evident in the lyrical construction of his self-titled debut, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. The album is refined but honest, generally recalling the glory and pitfalls of the rock and roll lifestyle. Yet it’s surprisingly unpretentious. It’s the kind of stuff that would make for a great live performance. He’s taking the stage at Coachella on Saturday. I wouldn’t recommend missing him.

The Hives – Tick Tick Boom
[audio:https://controlaltdelight.com/Music/the%20hives/01%20Tick%20Tick%20Boom.mp3]

This post takes a time machine back to over a decade ago. If you were into the musically relevant in the 2000s, you remember the phase of the “The” bands. The Vines, The Strokes, The White Stripes, and The Hives, where the focus of this Coachella spotlight will be held! Well, if you remember that phase, you remember the sheer rawness of it all. All these grungy kids in their early 20s just pushing rock and roll revival in a fresh, new way.

The Hives – Walk Idiot Walk
[audio:https://controlaltdelight.com/Music/the%20hives/03%20Walk%20Idiot%20Walk.mp3]
The Hives – Outsmarted
[audio:https://controlaltdelight.com/Music/the%20hives/05%20Outsmarted.mp3]

I’ve always been big into how a band presents themselves, and The Hives were one of the bands that led the pack. Always wearing matching suits and rocking out as good as the best of ’em. I love this type of music for its energy. You can’t be sad in a crowd to this music. It pulls everything out of you and brings the crowd together in a very special way. I’m just as excited to see them as I am for rock and roll to cycle back into the spotlight. If it’s done right, it’s the best to see live. Do yourself a favor and see The Hives on Day 3 of Coachella.

To be honest, I had a minor heart-attack when I saw Kasabian on the Coachella 2012 line-up. Probably because they’re one of my all-time favorite bands and I’ve been dying to see them live for quite some time. Simply put, they’re just cool. Some of the coolest, actually. No one does rock and roll like them. And their live performance would be an other-worldly experience. They released their fourth album, Velociraptor! last year. In true Kasabian form, it was awesome. You’re not going to want to miss these guys on Saturday, trust me.

From what I have heard of Amon Tobin‘s ethereal productions, it’s safe to say that it will be unlike anything you’ve ever listened to. He likes to create sounds of instruments that “are not from this world.” There isn’t much order with his songs but it’s what he does with them that makes it captivating. So many unfamiliar sounds. So much bass! The one thing I know for sure about the dude is that his live show is next level shit. One of the most large-scale, innovative productions we’ll probably ever bear witness. Actually, at the rate of things nowadays, that could be a claim. Just watch the video. You’ll be able to decide right here and now if it’s something you want to be a part of. I for one am NOT going to miss this. Stream his 7th studio album ISAM below.

After delivering what was the unanimous best hip-hop album of 2011, Compton, CA’s Kendrick Lamar will take the next step in his career by appearing on stage Friday at Coachella. Kendrick firmly cemented himself in the eyes of hip hop fans as one of the leaders of the game over the past few years, but this is a recommendation for any who don’t tend to steer towards the genre to pencil his set into your schedules. He continues to gain only the utmost respect from his peers as well as legends in hip-hop with a combination of unmatched lyrical finesse and a consciousness that’s currently lacking in most other new artists. His live show is filled with passion and skill – no unnecessary hype man. The future’s brighter for the young man than any lenses could shade, don’t sleep on this set (and don’t be surprised if some surprise guests grace the stage).

Kendrick Lamar – Rigamortus
Kendrick Lamar & Nosaj Thing – Cloud 10
Kendrick Lamar – Hol’ Up
