Giraffage | Soundcloud

The good news has seemed to continue rolling in the last few days for San Francisco’s Giraffage. Might we add, very deservedly so. This guy has been flying under the radar for the past year; getting claim and respect from all the outlets and artists that know their shit. But yesterday and today mark a new chapter to the life of Charlie Yin’s R&Bass alias.

While being freshly listed as direct support for Porter Robinson’s highly anticipated WORLDS tour the other day, he was just added to the ranks of A-Trak’s Fools Gold Records. To celebrate these announcements, Charlie released a booming remix of R. Kelly’s Ignition that’s sure to make it’s rounds this summer. He took a break from his usual low key vibe on tracks to put a little more hype into this release. The floaty arpeggios slam into the old school synths and give life to this classic track in a whole new way. Scope his tour info with Porter Robinson after the jump, OR come see him at Splash House in two weeks!

Lightning In A Bottle | Lineup | Tickets | Set Times

Hopefully you’ve been with us long enough to understand our praise for Chet Faker. What started as one of Flume’s consistent collaborators, turned into one of the most promising voices of the underground. He may look grungy and intimidating with that wicked beard, but you’ll have to refrain from judging this book by its cover. This Aussie puts out one of the most emotionally confident voices that just seems to put us at ease. His downtempo beats come off as a lullaby in recording, but pack a very unique groove when performed live. (Check after the jump for his Boiler Room set.) All of this bundled with his staggering debut album Built On Glass had him make our list of the best underground acts of 2014.

He’s set to go off at 7:40 on Sunday, which is bound to be one of the best sunset performances of the weekend.

What So Not @ IHEARTCOMIX Showcase

South By South West (stylized: SXSW) is unlike your typical music festival. First off, it’s not just a music festival. It’s three weeks long and split into technology, film, and music sections. The entire downtown of Austin, Texas and its outskirts get overrun by pop-up venues and converted restaurants to allow bands and DJs of all kinds to perform in their city. The best part? The music festival is pretty much free if you’re 21+. Everything is run by RSVPs and waiting in line. All you have to pay for is your flight, stay, and the best BBQ you will ever have in your life.

Every year SXSW cultivates artists from around the world to showcase what the upcoming year holds. Being the first proper music festival of the year, this gives upcoming and established artists alike a chance to create their buzz for the year during festival season. Some of these acts play for sub 500 person venues before performing in front of thousands later on in the year! This provides an insanely special environment for both the performers and fans. Check our top artists after the jump

Kaytranada | Soundcloud

[DOWNLOAD HERE]

I don’t know if it’s this future beats bubble I’ve been living in lately, albeit comfortably, but Montreal’s Kaytranada is swiftly making a huge impact on the scene. After collaborations with Mobb Deep, remixes of Disclosure and Banks, this dude is getting props from all the right people. His dynamic expertise and consistency in hip hop, electronic, and funk really sets him apart from a lot of producers out there. You can fall asleep to it or get mean to it at a show…my favorite! I posted some of his most special reworks below (everything on his soundcloud is worth hearing).

He’s playing with Purity Ring in LA on Friday! Crops of vibes WILL be cultivated.

Get your tickets here before they’re gone.

APEX TOUR | Limited Tickets

This Friday, the coveted APEX tour finally comes to Los Angeles! With dates across North America in New York, Vancouver, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, and more, this tour is not playing games. Hitting all the major North American cities. I definitely feel comfortable saying that LA is going to give them a run for their money. With a lineup as stacked as this, you’d be hard pressed to find a competitive lineup on the rest of the tour. Tale Of Us makes their long awaited return. Justin Martin should pretty much feel at home in LA at this point. Joy Orbison…Danny Daze…..BLOND:ISH! To sweeten the deal. Not to mention this party is going to be full on warehouse vibes in DTLA’s LOT 613 (pictured below). This is not a night to be missed, and get your tickets quick!

Lido | Soundcloud

The recent rise in quality and quantity of tracks in this realm has been thrilling watch. This style of music manages to keep an unparalleled level of energy coupled with beauty and soul that’s hard to find in popular electronic music. With acts such as Flume, Cashmere Cat, Ta-Ku and the like really pushing this vibe to the masses, there is such promising talent contributing their unique twists on the movement. Of those, Lido (also Trippy Turtle/LidoLido) is gaining serious traction. After Universal removed his remix of Disclosure’s Latch, the Lido hype blossomed as blogs and outlets expressed their outrage.

Just a few days ago he released a masterful recreation of the vintage Ain’t No Sunshine by Bill Withers. His additions to this song are simple, yet effectively ensues booming bounciness to this classic tune. Check it out below.

Duck Sauce | Soundcloud | Buy QUACK

To say Duck Sauce’s debut album was “highly anticipated” would be a severe understatement. Anyone that had their records in steady rotation since aNYway, You’re Nasty, and even the heyday of Barbra Streisand knows that we were practically begging for them to release an album of funky, sample-based disco since 2011. Well, this past Tuesday, they finally satisfied our salivating taste buds and exceeded well beyond all the hype.

The album is the epitome of everything that is Duck Sauce. Random, hilarious samples and skits, articulate DJ cuts from A-Trak, rhythmic and bouncy bass, quacks, duck puns…the list goes on. Aside from the singles released over the years, the standout track for me was “Everyone ft. Teddy Toothpick,” which just so happens to be an alias for Dave 1 of Chromeo, A-Trak’s brother. Not only is it cool to see A-Trak and his brother working together, there couldn’t be a better fit. The track grooves on into what sounds like Danny Brown looking for a less than favorable booty call at the end. Just a text book track from these disco legends. It’s nice to comfortably bask in something you had such high hopes for. Enjoy and buy the album here.
