latest and greatest

FULL POST

Music moves in cycles. When the waves collide they tend to form something spectacular. This installment of Latest and Greatest features remixes and collaborations whose parts influenced a greater whole. What better way to end a fabulous year of music than by reflecting back on those who helped create it? And perhaps these new friendships and methods will help spur an ever better year of music in 2015.

Porter Robinson – Years of War (Golden Features Remix)

Worlds was one of the best albums of 2014, hands down. Golden Features was one of Australia’s blow out acts; his self-titled EP was an eerily awesome trip. His remix of ‘Years of War’ retains the emotive vocalizations but replaces the instrumentals with his signature industrial darkness.

Corbin – Worn

Corbin, formerly Spooky Black, and thestand4rd came together with the fellas at Wedidit to release this melancholic winter burnout. Both collectives had, to say the least, an extremely productive year pushing the limits of hip-hop. Here’s to hoping for more from this powerhouse team up.

Luca Lush x Josh Pan – Get It On

Luca Lush and Josh Pan took Marvin Gaye’s classic ‘Let’s Get it On’ and added some future style to this baby-maker staple. The two have been coming in hot all year on their own to much success. This collab sees lush bass met with dancefloor excitability and makes for one really cool flip.

Ryan Hemsworth ft. Dawn Golden – Snow in Newark (XXYYXX Remix)

Ryan’s journey into ‘sad boy’ reached a pinnacle when he teamed up with Dawn Golden for ‘Snow in Newark’. Hearing it float on the breeze at TIMF was a highlight of the year. The video is a breathtaking exploration in being alone. XXYYXX took it one step deeper by drowning it in slow-moving beats and fleeting pianos.

ZHU – Paradise Awaits pt.2 ft. Goldlink

Everyone already knows ZHU was this year’s “#1 must-hear”. Nowhere near finished, he paired the sultry ‘Paradise Awaits’ with GoldLink and some added lyricism with a special shout to Usher. It doesn’t look like the faceless mob is slowing down anytime soon.

This installment of Latest and Greatest is devoted to our friends down by the Ecuator. The talent circulating down south has been consistently impressive. For the past year or so, they’ve experienced an influx of dark tech and if you haven’t already noticed: that’s my favourite electronic style.

Pompeya – Does [The Twelves Remix]

Though not quite dark and techy, a post about Brasil’s electronic scene without a mention of The Twelves is sacrilege. These two have oft been compared to Daft Punk – and for good reason. Here’s their newest funker.

Pompeya – Does (The Twelves Remix)

Malik Mustache – G My Humps

How can you not enjoy a basic club shot taken to new levels? Malik Mustache adds house and tech style to this 2005 hit and takes G-house into the future. G-Future.

Malik Mustache – G My Humps

Ishimaru – Fu-King EP

The newest EP from Ishimaru features his single Fu-King and remixes by Krash and Sound Cloup. It is dark, hard, and angry techno for the electro G inside us all.

Fractal System – Need You Tonight

Fractal System takes INXS’ 80’s dance-pop classic and adds that Brasil sound. This track is dark, funky, and bassy; and with that famed guitar riff, we definitely need it.

Nebbra | ZHU. | WKND | Sorry | Huxley

ODESZA + Say My Name ft. Zyra (Nebbra Remix)

ODESZA’s In Return was long awaited in the C+A+D ranks. Watching [and dancing along to] their rise has been quite the adventure. Likewise, we’ve kept an eye on Nebbra and couldn’t be happier that he decided to add his own chill trap skill to one of our favourite’s off the album. Vote for him.
Odesza – Say My Name (Nebbra Remix)

CHVRCHES + Gun. (ZHU Remix)

Following the release of the successful NightDay and a ‘Faded’ remix EP, LA’s ZHU decided to make us something a little more heartfelt. He adds his own pitched vocals to cover CHVRCHES’ Gun. The feature came via Triple J, and it’s quite deserving.
CHVRCHES + Gun. (ZHU Remix)

WKND x Chet Faker + Lover

WKND’s tropical house cover of Chet Faker’s ‘Like a Version’ cover of Sonia Dada’s ‘Lover [You Don’t Treat Me No Good’ is absolutely splendid. He adds a coastal dance-ability absent from the acoustic. Take it sunbathing.
WKND x Chet Faker + Lover

Sorry + Sextape

The anonymous Frenchmen of Sorry are known only by ‘SEXTAPE’. It is a vocal-free funk-fest to help you get the night started. They’ve an album coming soon and we can’t wait to forgive them for it.
Sorry + Sextape

Huxley + I Want You

‘I Want You’ is the first single off Huxley’s debut, Blurred, and its a huge turn from what we’re used to hearing from him. Not that its a bad thing, seeing as this track is one deep hypnotic trip that has us yearning. Preorder the album here.

Alt-J | Jessie Ware | Pomo | Solomun

It’s Summer! That means warm days, long nights, hazy memories, and a total disregard for the concept of time. Here are some of the latest and greatest tracks for you to match to whatever mood you’re caught in out there.

Pomo

Pomo’s newest work is an upbeat future beat track to either wake up smiling to or loosen up for the night groove. Andrea Cormier on vocals adds an angelic touch that only a care-free summer can complement. It’ll be on his forthcoming EP as well.

Solomun

You can’t have a summer without friends. You can’t have a summer without Deep House. Solomun brings that all together with Friends – 2DIY4. It’s a 9-minute adventure with just the right amount of tempo changes and surprises for those moments when thinking just won’t do. Put on a smile and dance those troubles away.

Alt-J

Alt-J’s newest single in their continued musical endeavour sans bassist Gwil Sainsbury is an ambient trip featuring replacement member Miley Cyrus. I jest. The sample used fits perfectly, though, considering the song is about fighting through loss. Lull yourself to sleep with this one.

Jessie Ware

Jessie Ware’s Tough Love channels Cyndi Lauper. Remember Time After Time? That was high-school graduation right there. This one’s got melodic electronics for those nights when your flings flop. Don’t worry – there’s always tomorrow. It’ll be out on her upcoming second studio album.

I’m really happy I started this series, because sometimes I get so much new music so quick (i.e. All this stuff that I got yesterday), and it would be too much to individually post it all. Every track here is equally essential and have had me in a mood boost for the past 24 hours. I mean, look at the headline! That lineup of names isn’t a joke. Check what I mean after the jump:
