At a promising 19 years of age, Jake Bugg is definitely wise beyond his years. His music brings to mind the heyday of various ’60’s rock n’ roll sounds. Behind the lively instrumentals are narratives indicative of a deeper understanding of life. The lesson is simple: take chances, Lightning Bolt, and you’ll find what matters most amidst all the hardships, Simple As This. A considerably apt outlook on life for someone so young.

Simultaneously encouraging and relatable, Jake Bugg’s music should provide you with a nice respite of classic rock for the start of your hectic weekend. We think you’ll agree with our sentiments when you see him on Friday.

It’s been awhile since we’ve done an interview, because we only do it with artists we truly believe in. Artists that step off the beaten path and create something universal. A sound that anyone with an open mind can appreciate. As you can imagine these artists are few and far between. Harley Streten (AKA Flume) took a minute to catch up with us while in the midst of a tour ping-ponging across the U.S. Check after the jump about his new life as a Platinum selling recording artist.

Chicago bros Smith Westerns have finally announced the release of their forthcoming album, followup to their 2011 sophomore album “Dye It Blonde.” Their capacity for songwriting and vocals really only seems to improve. I can’t wait to see what they do with this album. They released “Varsity” a few days ago and it’s probably some of their best work to date. More mature and polished than their former stuff, it has a vintage quality but not in an over-worn sort of way. It kinda reminds me of Peter Bjorn and John.

The Neighbourhood is playing on Friday. Start your weekend off with some ‘Black and White’. The self-created genre fits perfectly when you take in these five LA residents’ music as a whole. We classify their music as either dark or happy (though most of their songs are definitely further down the gradient). Their break-out hit, arguably, Sweater Weather is the closest resemblance to a happy song. Either way, the passion that lead singer Jesse Rutherford exudes is contagious; sure to put in you a trance. Comparable to a catharsis, these guys will help clear your minds for the rest of the experiences that the Coachella Polo Fields offers.

I just love Surfer Blood. That’s all that really needs to be said. Check out their new choons, off their next album which is set to drop in June. I can’t wait. I’ve had “Weird Shapes” on repeat since they released it. They have yet to disappoint.

Voyager Reprise

Generationals’ third studio album is due to release next month. They released this single off the album recently and it’s a promising taste from a band that never disappoints. Light hearted and slightly old fashion, they’ve really crafted an unmistakeable and irresistible sound. They’re sophomore album of 2011 was a step forward from their debut. This song, however, sounds a lot like their older stuff. I can’t argue with it though.

There are few things in life I get more excited about than music. There are fewer things in life that I get more excited about than Hockey. The band. (The sport is cool too but we’re not talking about that.) They released their debut album Mind Chaos in 2009 and it was, to say the very least, a thing of beauty. Seriously if you don’t have it, go get it. Now. After three and a half years of minimal communication from the band, they’ve FINALLY given word of their upcoming followup. The album is due out at the beginning of May (and I actually can’t wait). They’ve released two singles thus far, “Calling Back” and “Defeat On the Double Bass Line.” It’s a different direction for them, but that is certainly not a bad thing. It will be exciting to see what happens with the album.
