Hard to talk about up and coming rappers without mentioning Dom Kennedy. After being mysteriously left off the XXL Mag Freshman Class ’11 Cover, Dom dropped off a treat today via twitter to hold us off until his much anticipated From the Westside With Love II. XXL might end up looking back on that as a mistake. The Original Dom Kennedy is just more good shit from the Leimert Park native; flows on point but when he blows up he’ll be the last to say it. He also threw different artwork on every track, gotta love that. If you haven’t already, grab From The Westside With Love below… might have been my favorite tape of ’10.

You should really set that image as your background… it’ll brighten your mornings. Anyways, LA local trio Pac Div’s been building up a solid fan base and respect from some big names over the past few years killin’ verses with a strong old-school influenced sound. Got to see them open for The Cool Kids and Q-Tip a few years back and they put on a hell of a show. They’ve teamed up with Don Cannon to blend decades with their latest mixtape, Mania! Their third tape since signing with Universal back in ‘08 packs a little of everything from start to finish; bangers, tracks to light up to, summer jams. They’ve been putting in work and it shows… if I haven’t made it clear, this shit goes harder than Sheen. Grab the whole thing below or you still a knucklehead.

First track we’ve heard from J. Cole since Friday Night Lights back in November; understandable considering he’s either been in the studio or on tour ever since (somehow missed him everytime… SMH). Dropped this last night after hitting 400,000 followers on his Twitter.

It’s been awhile since C+A+D has made an expansion worth an introduction. When I started this blog, I didn’t want to discriminate by genre. If it’s good, I want it on here, and I want you to hear it. I’ve been waiting for someone to come around that could fill our hip-hop void. Needless to say, the search is over and another missing piece to the puzzle that is C+A+D has been placed. Without further ado, your hip-hop fiend ends here.

As an avid follower of the site, I’m excited to be on board and spread the good tunes to all who are willing to listen. I’m a prime example of how the process of sharing taste in different genres can create passion where there was none, so I’m just hoping to pass on that spirit. As much as my taste has evolved, I’ll always have a special place for hip hop, old and new. That being said, I’ll do my best in keeping my ear to the ground to deliver the freshest tracks to your headphones and occasionally drop off an old gem that always gets my head noddin’. In the meantime, here’s a few songs i haven’t been able to stop listening to from some of the up and coming names in this scene.

Couple big releases last week — G.O.O.D. Music‘s Big Sean dropped “My Last,” the first single (featuring Chris Brown) off of his upcoming debut album, “Finally Famous: the Album.” Check it out below.

Also, one of the leaders of the independent hip-hop scene, MURS, delivered another album in the form of a collaboration with producer Terrace Martin; the two worked on a couple tracks together on “MURS for President.” The new album, “Melrose” reflects the duo’s fun, laid-back sides and can be purchased at major retailers. MURS was one of the dudes that originally got me into the scene so I always look forward to anything he puts out.

Happy Sunday everyone! Ok so sorry I haven’t had a chance to post anything up here in the past few weeks. Hopefully this post will make up for it. I’m going to start putting together a playlist weekly of a handful of different genres from bands I really like. I’m going to keep it to around 20 songs each time so you can put it on a CD to enjoy on your summer drives. If you don’t know already, YOLO is short hand for You Only Live Once. If i could live my life by any four letters, it’d be these. Life isn’t too short, but too dear to be confined to any one genre of music, or to any one way of life for that matter. There is some good in every genre, even country. Open your minds and your ears and give it a shot. You never know..

Ok, so apparently people have been having trouble downloading the stuff I put up here. It’s not as hard as it seems. Just click on the link that i provide that usually says Click to Download. You will be redirected to Mediafire’s website. Once again, click the link that says Click to Download. It should start downloading. If it doesn’t go straight onto your desktop search for it, because it’s there. Drag and drop into your itunes and you’re all set to go!

Leave your comments on bands or songs you liked specifically if you’d like some more from them.

all these tracks are for promotional purposes only and if you want them removed email contactalijafari@gmail.com
