When we caught Sylvan Esso at SXSW 2014, the only real intro we had to them was the chilled out electronica of ‘Hey Mami’ and ‘Coffee’. They came out looking like a typical indie boy-girl feel good-pop duo. And then they shattered all of our expectations.

Listening to their recorded tracks does them only the slightest of justice. Where they excel is definitely in the performer’s eye. Amelia and Nick’s on-stage presence is charmingly lovable. They feed off of each other and the energy seeps. Starting the festival season off with smiles all around and playful dancing with strangers is A-Okay in our book. Come play with us.

Our favourite month is upon us! April marks the beginning of festival season and our partnership with MDA is setting it off right with our first ever triple header. The fun begins Thursday (4|2) with Switzerland’s sweet and soothing seamstress of disco-deep sound, Nora En Pure, as she stops by for her #PURIFIED US tour. Friday (4|3) night we’ll be getting a bit more experimental thanks to labyrinth house king Daedelus and his well-crafted adventures into the maze of music. Finally, we close out the weekend (4|4) with the electro-disco-pop leanings of Mystery Skulls. Support from local regulars Bijoux, Free the Robots, and Glorious Wondour, respectively, will only add to the fun.

We’ve got tickets for you (steps for entry below). Points to note: each show is separate. If you want to attend all three (we know you do), then send a tweet for each of the three shows, substituting each artist!

HOW TO ENTER

Picture this: You are bayside. The weather is everything you could ask for from Southern California. Sunny. A cool breeze. Craft beer in hand. The best live indie and electronic music currently in the scene. Mesmerizing sunsets. Serious question: what more?

CRSSD festival saw it’s inaugural event this month, and it couldn’t have gone any better. The list of everything they did right for those in attendance is nearly endless. They provided the perfect atmosphere for, quite honestly, the best top to bottom lineup we’ve ever seen. This ranged from major stage acts like Chromeo and Empire of the Sun to underground future stars like Lido, Giraffage, and Carmada to deep house and techno legends like Maceo Plex and Damian Lazarus. I still get chills thinking about the range of artists that were available for us.

The pastel, oceanside sunsets and palm tree lines laced the backdrop to some of the more memorable performances of the weekend. I’ll never forget the soothing sounds of Flight Facilities setting the tone for this wonderful atmosphere. It was almost too fitting with the airplanes landing behind mainstage at San Diego airport. The energy of the early crowd for early sets like Lido and Treasure Fingers were electrifying. Starfucker brought “the weird” to the San Diego crowd in a way only they can, and it nearly brought me to tears.

All in all, there was a lot that made this event perfect: Impressively lax entry lines, wide beer & food selection, a water fountain to play and cool down in, and beautiful 21+ people. Yeah. The entire event was 21+, which entirely changed the vibe of the festival in the best way possible. That’s just it, though. The crowd can make or break an event, and this one added to it in a priceless way. Some things to work on included more trashcans as people were a little loose with their disposables and more efficient bathroom locations. That’s literally it. All events, new and old, could learn from what CRSSD festival provided, and we can’t wait for 2016.

Lots of George Maple talk in club C+A+D lately, but we suggest you get used to it. Not just with us. This is surely going to be her year to gain recognition from the masses. This heater was brought to us by Emoh (AKA What So Not) and lesser known 11 Lit3s. A reimagined, bass-heavy, synth-loaded version of Maple’s “Talk Talk.” Let the groove move you!

Carmada is the combination of Aussie producers Yahtzel and LDRU. Together, their respective styles blend into melodic tropical trap bass house with a down under flavor that can’t really be compared to.

So we won’t try to. All we know is that when they play at the The Palms stage, we’ll be right there in the haze of it all.

Gravez is making his way up the ranks of the underground as one of its more talented producers. From Soulection to Athletixx, the dude’s got connections in all the right places. Sango has been playing out this tune in all his sets, and for good reason. Only Gravez could pull a Pitbull sample and sound this fly.
