I was gone for a bit. Now I’m back. Cool story, I know. If you’re unfamiliar, I’m going to be the guy that keeps you updated on anything and everything EDM. I like to keep things clear-cut. If it’s good, I’ll praise it with chortle inducing metaphors. On the other hand, if it sucks it’ll get the merciless butt of my verbal assault rifle.

If you’ve been following the dub scene at all, you already know Borgore has been killin it. Well he’s got a record label now called Buygore and it’s got some interesting talent. One of ‘em is 24-year-old Tomba, a Dutchman with a knack for filthy, grimy dub.

New visuals for Bassnectar & Jantsen‘s ‘Red Step’ off Bassnectar’s upcoming Divergent Spectrum album, which comes out next Tuesday 8/2. This one showcases thousands of Bassheads getting down at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. I’m still really curious to check out the apparently wild dubstep scene out there. Does the thin air have something to do with their tolerance for the grimiest of the grime? Anyways, Bassnectar throws down here as always. If Skrillex is the Prince of Dubstep what is Bassnectar? Somewhere in the royal family for sure. Check out the video below!

Bassnectar – Immidraniada (Radio Edit)

Rusko continues his pioneer work, attempting to make dubstep appealing to the masses. This one leaked last week to Rusko’s dismay and features Mike Posner. Posner’s vocals work nicely over Rusko’s production, and as always, he keeps his straight-forward lyrical style here. Is it a stretch to say Rusko is doing for dubstep what Guetta did with One Love? This sounds a lot like his previous collab with Gucci Mane as well as “My Mouth.” Although Rusko faithful will consider this one a little cheesed up, the bass is still pretty beefy. I think I just turned this into a Taco Bell ad. Check it out below!

Back again for your (ir)regular but as always juicy slice of grooves and beats. This week sees a harder dose, spurred by Blatta+Inesha’s recent visit to Motiv in Santa Cruz. I was ready, but I wasn’t prepared for what they had in store, a set filled with hard-driving electro from across the pond, flawlessly mixed, with enough energy to carry an hour and a half set. Keep an eye out for these guys on their soundcloud and facebook, their new track “Senegal” gets released on Dim Mak Records in a few weeks!

Here’s probably my favorite track of theirs, which just came out in March on Crux Records. The Modek remix was indeed a fantastic outing, but I personally love where this song goes in the first 3:20, a killer sub-bass, eerie vocals, and a killer drop. Ladies and gentlemen, this here’s a classic.

This new remix by German group D.I.M. is one of the more perfect songs I’ve heard in the past few weeks, these guys in my eyes, can do no wrong.

Next up is Lucky Date’s newest remix of Frankmusik’s “Do It in the A.M.”. He released his previous effort with Eli Smith a few weeks ago(one of my favorite tracks recently), this is a slowed down, more laid-back approach. Still got Lucky Date allllll over it, this has a got a really clean percs to open up, with a super funky bassline underneath. A cool throwback to simpler times, and a great track for the end of summer.

Next up we got a MASSIVE dubstep track from Sex Cult Records‘ Alvin Risk. This guy doesn’t know how to slow down, churning out insane dubstep tracks, and some of my favorite moombahton originals this year alone, and this one’s no let down. Has an overall dark theme, which I think the american dub scene has lacked recently, and this guy is going nowhere. Go check his soundcloud, then peep some of the junior Sex Cult crew, big sounds coming from guys you’ll hear more of.

Last this week we got a heavy electro remix from the 19-year-old up-and-comer DallasK, with his huge remix of Nero’s Guilt. Honestly after some of their previous releases, Guilt could never hold its own for me, but this track has completely brought it back to life. His “Front/Back” track has been tearing up Beatport and moved this kid to “Serious” status I’d say pretty damn quick. eyes peeled on this kid.

I was trying to do homework until I “accidentally” went on Facebook and saw this song posted. I love when accidents prove to be good things, because I’m blasting this at levels right now. Calvin Harris‘s new single “Feel So Close” is coming out with an all star lineup of remixes by the likes of Benny Benassi, Dillon Francis and Nero. The others have some pretty damn big shoes to fill, because the bar has been set. Nero proves once again their dominance in the realm of melodic dubstep that maintains its hard hitting status. This song does all the right things. A build up and drop to get lost in, filled with slamming bass on top of Calvin Harris’s oh so desirable vocals. The combination couldn’t have come together more beautifully. A masterpiece in its own right. I’m losing my patience waiting for these remixes to drop on Aug 21 (Preorder here).

Calvin Harris – Feel So Close (Nero Remix)

Seems like literally two days ago that I posted the preview to this bad boy. A few hundred thousand replays later — it’s here! And just as bat shit insane as I had hoped. Skrillex’s hardcore music influences really sets him apart with this genre. Takes me back to the good ol’ days in the pit. Of the SM&NS remixes, Kaskade‘s reigns supreme. I’m feeling like the Dirtyphonics remix is going to win me over in the long run with all that energy, but who knows! There isn’t much else to say that hasn’t already been said, so I’ll let the EP speak for itself. If you’ve got some extra lettuce, help Skrilly out on Beatport. And for the record…I still don’t know what a sprite is. Unless he’s really referring to the soda? Someone help!

Foreign Beggars – Still Getting It (feat. Skrillex)

This is definitely a colab I’m not going to get tired of hearing anytime soon. Almost positive I heard Skrillex drop this during his set at Coachella. Allow me to apologize to your subwoofers in advance. STILL GETTIN IT!

I don’t know what it is with dubstep artists as a whole consistently putting out albums, but I’m not complaining. I’m only saying because you see more dub LPs/EPs coming out than electronic. And the electronic EPs with an original and 5 remixes don’t count. Anyway, Emalkay has been in the game for days, and is finally getting support in the U.S. with his most recent release of Eclipse. I saw his name on this year’s HARD Summer bill and skipped over it, only to find Skrillex ranting and raving about Eclipse on his twitter. And just today, HARD put out an artist spotlight on the guy, so I took the hint, grabbed the album, and couldn’t be happier that I did.

The album starts off running with what Chronic Mncher and I believe to be one of the fattest dubstep tracks of the year so far. He goes through the album weaving together old school deep dub with the grimy new school brostep synths. All the while, he throws in some drum and bass as I’ve been warming up to the sound. True UK dubstep artist, and this is just the beginning for him, in the states at least.
