HVOB’s minimal house sound with Anna’s background vocals has always been a point of calm for us. Their newest EP, Window, is no different. The title-track’s video [as with all of their videos] is nothing short of awesome. With sets that represent part art installation, part music video, part soundtrack, the trio’s multi-layered aspect makes it that much easier to drift away.

Window comes out Friday and features remixes from minimal-tech powerhouse Gui Boratto and the worldly Acid Pauli.

After releasing Awake | Cardigan last year with a signing on the famed Anjunadeep, Jeremy Villecourt, or Croquet Club, has since been taking emotional deep house to great heights with his voice and colorful song structures. His most recent release, ‘Only You Can Tell’, is no less than beautifully heart wrenching. The Jacuzzi EP, similarly, evokes a calmed euphoria.

The best part is he isn’t a single-sound hound. Check out the mix he made for Kitsune Maison’s recently released Sweet 16 Artist Compilation for some seriously chilled-out style. I’m floating.

Free the RobotsStaRroTICKETS

Our bi-monthly series with Modern Disco Ambassadors continues this Friday! Those of you at last week’s show can attest to how fun it was. Free billiards. Great beer selection. Awesome people. Lucky for you, this week’s show promises to be just as, if not more, bouncy.

Jazzy and glitchy beats from Free the Robots, sultry and soulful rhythms from StarRo, and MDA’s current listings from Torosbros means this’ll be a night of heavy grooving and swaying.

Free the Robots – Soul Control

Free the Robots – The Truth

Chet Faker – Talk is Cheap (StarRo Remix)

Disclosure – Latch (StarRo Remix)

This installment of Latest and Greatest is devoted to our friends down by the Ecuator. The talent circulating down south has been consistently impressive. For the past year or so, they’ve experienced an influx of dark tech and if you haven’t already noticed: that’s my favourite electronic style.

Pompeya – Does [The Twelves Remix]

Though not quite dark and techy, a post about Brasil’s electronic scene without a mention of The Twelves is sacrilege. These two have oft been compared to Daft Punk – and for good reason. Here’s their newest funker.

Pompeya – Does (The Twelves Remix)

Malik Mustache – G My Humps

How can you not enjoy a basic club shot taken to new levels? Malik Mustache adds house and tech style to this 2005 hit and takes G-house into the future. G-Future.

Ishimaru – Fu-King EP

The newest EP from Ishimaru features his single Fu-King and remixes by Krash and Sound Cloup. It is dark, hard, and angry techno for the electro G inside us all.

Fractal System – Need You Tonight

Fractal System takes INXS’ 80’s dance-pop classic and adds that Brasil sound. This track is dark, funky, and bassy; and with that famed guitar riff, we definitely need it.

Last year, Smallpools released their hit single ‘Dreaming’ and it became an anthem to the start of summer. Their follow up EP was indie-pop of similar celebratory scale.

Around the same time, Magic Man and Panama Wedding were rising in the ranks with their catchy synth rock and heartfelt vocals via ‘Paris’ and ‘All of the People’, respectively. The former’s most recent album, Before the Waves kept it rolling. And the latter has seen remixes come from all around the spectrum – RAC among them – which is one of the best respects a musician can pay.

On Monday [11|17], all three will be bringing their high-energy, feel-good indie vibes to the House of Blues in Anaheim. And we’ve got some tickets to giveaway for quite the show to kick off your week! Come with feeling.

Ouija Entertainment | Tickets | Event Info

Hey friends! CAD4.0. MDA team-up. Life is good.

And it just got better. We’re excited to finally release news of our partnership with Ouija Entertainment. The first fruit of this comes Thursday [11.13]. Penguin Prison, SNBRN, AfroWhitey, and KidB are our musical stars. Absolut and Avion: our libations [come early and check the open bar from 9-10!]

Penguin Prison sets are always something special. The added touch of live vocals over his indie-pop originals have quite the effect. And then there’s introduction to his influences by way of DJ set. Think sunset-house and disco vibes. Add SNBRN to the mix – his recent Dirty South remix was emotional, to say the least – and we’re looking at quite a feel-good party. Our favourite kind of party. Win some tickets and come add to the mood!
