Another morning made by a release from one of my all-time favs: sebastiAn. SebastiAn is finally releasing his album titled “Total” in May, and I couldn’t be more excited! He (along with the rest of the Ed Banger crew) have been at the top of my list since I knew what electronic was. I love when DJs put together albums because you really don’t see that often at all. SebastiAn has always had a thing with the way his bass hits that I’ve never seen recreated. His sounds and melodies cut right through you. More on the dark side, but yet still puts me in a good mood. I’m really happy with “Embody,” though. It’s the sebastiAn we want to hear, just new. Oh and that picture is him kissing himself, which is probably going to be his album art. Is that gay? Enjoy.

I know I just posted on these guys a few days ago, but they felt my appraisal and threw another remix together a couple days later. I was gonna put this and the delightful treat in the YOLO list coming up, but there’s so much this week that I didn’t want to overwhelm you. So Kids at the Bar decided to add one more banger to their résumé this week. This time they put a ravey spin on Glasnost‘s originally disco-funky track, “Corridor.” Adding a plethora of heavy bass and synth that’s a treat in itself. My only qualm is that it doesn’t drop with a slamming snare the second time around..kinda plateaus when it has much more potential. You’ll see.

Glasnost – Corridor (Kids at the Bar Remix)

Delightful Treat

TC – Deep (Jack Beats Remix)
I heard this song for the first time at Hard Haunted 2010 and it came back into my life in their Warehouse Project video. I was happy to find that it’s been released, but not in its entirety…don’t know when or if we’ll get the whole thing, but this is sick as fuck. The glitchy wobble leaves me speechless every time.

Justice is hyping the hell out of their new song, and at first it was making me worried…but a little faith goes a long way. Behind this commercial you can hear the funky bass lines and hard hitting snares that we’ve been without for almost 4 years. Counting down the days for these guys to make their come back. As they quoted on their status:

“CIVILIZATION”
First single of Justice’s upcoming album

Alot of projects comin’ in hot the past few weeks: Chip Tha Ripper’s bass-slappin Gift Raps, Pac Div’s Mania!, The Original Dom Kennedy, among others. Today we got another, the solo debut of Sir Michael Rocks. The artist formerly known as Mikey Rocks (one half of The Cool Kids) brings the same heat on his first tape without Chuck. Starts off with a little distortion on “Hate Me Too” that goes hard (would love to see more use of that), continues with a couple instant jams like “Coochie Crook” and some storytelling skills in “Deal Went Sour.” All with the fresh demeanor that can only be pulled off by the dude that can rock the leather strap hat. Mr. Rocks has definitely matured since his early shit with the Cool Kids. 25 tracks on this bad boy with a few features and some skits. Check it (and get that bracket ready)

If you haven’t already, make sure to grab Mac Miller’s much-hyped Best Day Ever. Just a kid havin a good time makin’ tunes, more positive vibes from Mac. Two thumbs up!

I feel like a retard, because I’ve had all today’s songs saved up and ready to go all week, and yet I still managed to wait til the absolute last minute to put them up. Slept in today after a rockin show at Detroit bar featuring Portland’s Starfucker. My second time around seeing these guys was filled with just as much energy and good vibes as the first, just with a little more lazers and a little less dresses and wigs. Frontman and multi-instrumentalist Josh Hodges put a on a show of his own, switching between singing, guitar playing, synth slamming, and record scratching on a record player he had on stage, which I thought was the coolest thing ever. They made a mixtape with top40s classics mashed on their recently released album Reptilians that you can find on their soundcloud. I took the liberty of downloading them all and zipping them up so you don’t have to. You can download that here.

Another unexpected treat just hit the internet this morning, and it’s the kinda thing that effects the rest of the day..Calvin Harris uploaded a video for his new track “Awooga” that has footage of his recent Australian tour with Rihanna. There’s something about Calvin’s songs that always hits home, makes you forget about your worries and want to get down and dirty for a quick min. You can tell this guy has been through a bunch of bullshit, and yet still manages to dgaf and enjoy life anyway. I don’t know if the footage from the video is his liveset or what, but I NEED to see that set up one day. Anyway, the song isn’t the usual Calvin we’re used to hearing, but has the similar sound and bounciness that we love. Another thing that puts it apart from his older tunes is that he’s not singing…let’s hope he doesn’t make a habit of this. Meanwhile, I’m lovin’ it!

Another YOLO list native, Kids at the Bar, makes their way back on your weekly melting pot of Grade A sounds. I first heard these guys back when Chronic Mncher told me about the remix album of Daft Punk’s Human After All, aptly named Remix After All. After shuffling through some mediocre-at-best renditions of the originals, I landed on “Technologic (Kids At the Bar Remix).” After a few seconds you start to wonder if these guys are here to fuck around, and at about one minute you realize in fact, that, no..they’re not. Their sound encompasses some of the grimiest raved-out synths you can come by, much like that of Bloody Beetroots. They’re fairly liberal when it comes to hard hitting bass, and it all comes together in the best way possible. KATB still manages to stay lighthearted with their own versions of over-remixed indie greats like Empire of the Sun and Passion Pit. These guys are fairly consistent with their remixes/edits, and when it clicks, the music takes over. The only things that are missing are a warehouse, about 2-300 people, fog lights, and lasers…I can only imagine how fun it would be to catch these guys live.
