It’s a different feeling when you go to a show that you know is going to be worth every penny of the ticket. I’ve seen Wolfgang Gartner at Coachella, EDC, and TAO, so I knew he could rock the hell out of a festival. I was just curious to see how he’d bring it at a smaller, more intimate venue. Plus, I’ve heard only good things about Felix Cartal, and I was just as amped for his set.

We got there relatively early, but for a sold out show, I was surprised to be able to just walk right into the venue. Small place with a balcony added for multiple options, but we went straight to the pit. All the opening DJs pulled out their best tricks, but I was ready to see what the deal was with Felix. I had no idea what to expect, but he delivered some of the grimiest and twisted, electro house that had me going hard for his whole set. Saving energy wasn’t an option through the constant ravey synths and bass that I just love to hear live.

Wolfgang’s set was scheduled for 12-145, and he peaked out with his gear around 11:59. He was greeted with the third “WOLFGANG” chant of the night, this one being the loudest by far. As soon as he took on the tables he slammed us with heavy bass and blasted the lights of his crazy ass live setup. He played everything we wanted to hear: Illmerica, Space Junk, Mornin After Dark Remix, and ended with Fire Power. There’s something about the way that Space Junk drops that sends a tingle down your spine when the synths hit. I was happy to hear a LOT of songs I’ve never heard that clearly had his sound, and I can say with confidence that his album is going to be monumental when it comes out.

1:45 rolled around and Wolfgang had to close shop among a house full of fans that were turned down of their encore requests and hungered for more. I gotta give the MVDJ award to Wolfgang, but he was followed closely by Felix. Wolfgang’s geometric set up with the lights and everything really changed it all, but Felix didn’t fuck around. I’m starting my search of his stuff now so help me if you know of good stuff! If you haven’t seen Wolfgang make more of an effort to do so. You’ll see a DJ set done right.

Unofficial mixtape from Actor/Comedian/MC Childish Gambino released this week, titled “I Do Not Talk.” The tape highlights Gambino’s earlier work and shows the progression to his current sound. If you haven’t listened, Childish Gambino is the stage name of Donald Glover, who stars on the TV show ‘Community‘ and also performs as a comedian. His entertainment background is definitely reflected in his flow; he’s developed a nice ability to play with words as if there’s a controller attached. His more recent material on “EP” succeeds in straddling the line between continuous wit and rhythm… it’s almost tempting to dub his style geek-rap. I haven’t had the chance to catch his live show but it’s tough to go wrong with stand-up and live music together (he’ll be in LA on 4/27… tickets. Grab both “EP” and “I Do Not Talk” below.

This long-haired ginger and UK native is making his way up with an electronic style that thrives on diced up samples and extends through the music spectrum. Star Slinger has an awesome way of bring a handful of genres together with a funky flare that’s catchy as hell. Making beats through samples is coming up more and more as DJ’s are perfecting their skills and people are opening up to electronic. Star Slinger’s debut full length Volume 1 is a solid compilation of his range of beatsmithery. A talent worthy of its own word. He’s a got a knack for unique remixes too. Watch out for his EP “Bedroom Joints” that released this year. You can buy both for relatively cheap at his bandcamp.

So the kings of tease relieved our blue balls by releasing their newest track today. We pretty much know what we’re going to get with Dada Life at this point, which isn’t the greatest thing, but I’m diggin’ the beat…I’m a sucker for hard hitting synths. Not 100% on the vocals, but they’ll probably grow on me. One thing I know for sure is that hearing this live would start a riot. Snag the full quality on beatport.

Our French friends with the leather jackets are finally making a comeback this year. I have a really good feeling about this especially judging by how great this song is. They have such a way with putting vocals in their songs that always stood out to me, aside from their epic pianos and funky bass lines of course. “Civilization” is right up there with DVNO, D.A.N.C.E., Valentine, and Tthhee Ppaarrttyy. Ok so this past week is getting me even more antsy for Coachella than usual. All I’ve been seeing is statuses and tweets of “SXSW this…” or “Beyond Wonderland that..” and now shit like “ME+ULTRA+MIAMI=BEST WEEK EVER LOL.” And to top it all off, the wristbands and tix were sent out just to taunt us until the date. I just want the next 20 days to come and gtfo so we can have our fun. I’ve been trying to pass the time by going to LA to see The Strange Boys on Tuesday and Thee Oh Sees on Friday. BIG thanks to FYF Fest for hosting those and making them both memorable, sold out, rowdy, sweaty and all around awesome shows. It’s always nice to take time off the pounding bass in exchange for slamming guitars, outgoing vocalists and energetic bands with groovy ass bass lines. Anyhow, I found a bunch of good tunes this week, some of which that are gonna be in Indio with us. Jam out, stay safe and be patient. Good things are coming!

I’m happy to say that finals week is in the past (for most), and we all came out alive. And now that I have way less to worry about, this break is going to be filled with the brainstorming and reconfiguring of the future of C+A+D. We’ve been getting way more action than usual lately, and it makes us so happy to know that you guys are helping us spread the word. We want to share our music with everyone!
