Skinny Genes

San Jose is planning for a blowout event featuring Crystal Castles and The Crystal Method at the beginning of May. Crystal Castles are fresh off their dazzling Coachella performance and ready to show NorCal the same love. Dionysus Events is one of NorCal’s premier event producers, putting on former events with the Cataracs and Le Castle Vania, so you can bet the experience will show in their latest. They’re hooking us up with a few floor tickets for the night, and here’s how it’s going to break down:

How To Win The Tickets

1. “Like” Control+Alt+Delight and Dionysus Events on FaceBook
3. Write “I want to win floor tickets from @Control+Alt+Delight and @Dionysus Events to see Crystal Castles and Crystal Method on May 7th!!” in your FaceBook status.
2. Simply write on our FaceBook wall stating why you feel like you deserve the tickets and who you hope to see touring in 2011.
3. Follow our twitter for the announcement of the ticket winners.

Easy. You’re not going to want to miss this event. Crystal Castles is a thrill live. I’ve seen them at various HARD events and they sure bring the energy to match. Here’s a video I got of them at HARD Summer. GOOD LUCK!

The CoachellAltDelight series will put focus on the low key Coachella
artists that we at C+A+D feel like you should know about.
Less than a week till we’re all together!

Alright so big thanks to Goldenvoice for FINALLY releasing the set times for this year’s festival. Several overlaps and lots of decisions. With a lineup as stacked as this, sacrifices are bound to be made. I linked to the artists that we’ve written about if you wanna scope. In a perfect world, my days would go a little something like this:

Friday

130-230 12th Planet @Sahara
230-310 Moving Units @Coachella Stage
310-420 Excision/Skrillex @Sahara
430-520 Morning Benders @Gobi
530-745 A-Trak/Afrojack @Sahara
835-925 Cut Copy* @Mojave
925-10 Beardyman @Oasis Dome
1045-1130 Nosaj Thing @Gobi
1130- Boys Noize** @Sahara

Saturday

130-225 The Twelves @Sahara
405-430 Delta Spirit @Outdoor Theatre
430-520 Two Door Cinema Club @Mojave
520-735 Chuckie/Laidback Luke @Sahara
830-1055 Mumford & Sons/Animal Collective** @Coachella Stage
1130- Steve Angello @Sahara

Sunday

1-140 Plan B @Gobi
220-305 MEN @Mojave
4-530 Jack F*CKING Beats @Sahara
530-650 Nas & Damian Marley/DFA1979 @Coachella Stage
650-715 Foster the People @Gobi
715-825 DUCK MUH F*CKIN SAUCE*** @Sahara
825-915 Ratatat @Mojave
915- The Strokes/Kanye West @Coachella Stage

I’m fairly satisfied with this plan..we’ll see if it holds together. If anyone wants to meet up/chill/dance/enjoy life/have an inspirational chat on the way to the next stage/become friends…let me know in the comments. Best piece of advice I can give is in regards to texting/group shit. Make sure you have a meeting spot for you and your group..or multiple meeting spots. Texting is a beast there since there’s barely any service. Make sure to text a time that you’re going to be somewhere and how long you’re going to be there for. That’s what works for me. Make sure to drink lots of water and have even more fun. I love you!

*it kills me to miss Black Keys/Magnetic Man/Groove Monsters..but the indie/electronic combo shows are the most fun to me. I’m sure I’ll catch Black keys again.
**Try not to miss Boys Noize/Animal Collective. They are teaming up with the Creators Project to make for an insanely visually stimulating live show
***A few days ago A-Trak posted on his fb “Last day of Coachella try outs, then we’re shipping this thing to indio!” Foreshadowing a surprise for Duck Sauce??? It only makes sense.

Less than a week till we’re all together!

I’ve heard stories, myths, legends about the UK beat boxer that no one would challenge. The man who could recreate any song with nothing but a synth, kaoss pads, and his vocal chords. He is Beardyman: the most musically talented and innovative beatsmith in the world. The man is so good, he’s the only person to ever win the UK Beat Box Championships two years in a row (’06-’07). In 2008, no one wanted to go against him. The board refused to let him enter that year, so he took a seat as one of the judges. Beardyman can really do it all. My friends and I watched his hour long, live YouTube set from the Edinburgh Comedy Festival and this guy is an absolute thrill. He works off the crowd and ensues lots of laughs and inSANE live musical creations. If you want a show…do NOT miss Beardyman on Friday.

If you can’t make it on Friday, he’s playing tonight for $5 (by RSVP at theloftrsvp@dimmak.com) in LA at Dim Mak Studios with Style of Eye. Style of Eye is one of my favorite progressive house DJ’s, so this $5 deal is a f*ckin steal.

Beardyman Essential Mix (click to DL)
In this mix he recreates a shit ton of songs like A Tribe Called Quest’s “Can I Kick It?” and Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You” live in the BBC studios. Absolutely mad.

Everyone! I’m on my way back to Orange County from Arizona’s Soundwave Festival with Boys Noize, Porter Robinson, Diplo and others at a waterpark! It was cloudy all day and rainy at night, but the weather couldn’t keep all of us from seeing some of the most fun sets I’ve been a part of. I got some really good videos for later. Happy to say that last week was an awesome week for music. Not only were we graced with three fat new albums (Holy Ghost!, Panda Bear, Mortal Kombat OST), but I was also able to pre-party for Coachella in style outside of CA borders…where my medical recommendation is useless. All good though. The most special thing about this week is the end of it. It’s almost here everybody. They screwed up my order for whatever reason, and now I gotta get my ticket at will call. That better be the only thing that goes wrong, because it’s a small price to pay for the insanity that will take place in Indio. We’re gonna get shirts and stickers real soon! Stay chooned.

Less than a week til we’re all together!

Ok so these guys may not be as “low key” as the other artists we’ll be bringing up, but I just don’t want anyone to take a chance of missing ’em. And besides their name is WAY smaller on the flyer than they deserve. Jack Beats are turn table extraordinaires. They produce, remix, and DJ with an unmatched wobbly style that’s consistently filled with grimy bass. Jack Beats is formed of members of two separate turntable crews in the UK: Plus One from the Scratch Perverts and Beni G from the Mixologists. Together they throw down some of the nastiest sets I could ask for, and I’m saying this from first-hand experience. I’ve seen them twice and that’s not gonna stop me from being front and center for this. Their turntable experience is very apparent through their mixes, and I’m hoping they’ll bring out some unexpected tricks with their liveset at Coachella. They’ve got an album that’s set to release this year, so be ready for a lot of new tracks in Indio on Sunday!

-If you wanna see the video I got of them at HARD Haunted Mansion 2010, Click Here.
-Or Click Here to hear their new song “Elevator Music.”

J-J-J-Jack Beats

Jack Beats – All Night ft. John B Fresh Beats!
AC Slater – Jack Got Jacked (Jack Beats Remix) C+A+D Favorite!
TC – Deep (Jack Beats Remix) [HQ Set Rip]
La Roux – I’m Not Your Toy (Jack Beats Remix)
Florence and the Machine – Drumming Song (Jack Beats Remix)

Los Angeles’ own Foster the People is a three piece rock band that formed in October of 2009. Since then they’ve released a self-titled three song EP that has received a lot of praise, especially overseas. The first time I heard them was when I saw their video for “Pumped Up Kicks.” The video is filled with good vibes and beach bum lifestyle that they try and send through your headphones. The EP runs way too short, in my opinion, and yet it doesn’t keep me from shuffling through it for days at a time. I can hardly manage to sit still through their psychedelically groovy sound while I’m writing this. Their set time is yet to be released, but they’re going to be sharing the stage with the likes of Ratatat, The Strokes, Ellie Goulding, MEN, Phantogram, and others on Sunday. I’m excited to see these guys blow up, because a lot of good things are in store for them.
