Skinny Genes

I hate being teased. Especially when I won’t see the fruits of the teasing for an extended period of time. TEED’s new single isn’t going to come out for two months. Which, in music time, is forever…What the hell! ‘Tapes & Money’ isn’t supposed to come out until April, and the album will follow in May. This track is yet another masterpiece from our prehistoric friend. He’s so good at being super ravy and distorted while still maintaining a feel-good sound overall. Definitely one of the most consistent producers right now.

Speaking of consistent producers, Dillon Francis is doing some teasing of his own. His is a little bit more short-ended, as his EP ‘Something, Something, Awesome’ is out in 10 days. I heard him drop all of these songs the last couple times I saw him. Shit goes hard. Majority Nu Jump Up, as he dubs it, and just the spiciest moombahton track at the end. He guarantees you getting laid if you buy it and it conveniently comes out on Valentine’s Day. GO:

Orna – The Anthem (Flume Remix)
We’ve been working with a couple of our friends and hometown heroes (including but not limited to Groove Monsters, Inc. and 12FV) to bake up a treat for everyone. The first friday of every month will hold a fresh new take on celebrating life in Orange County. Their words:

Life is crazy. You know that, we know that. Keep in touch? HA. Think of all those you once planned to “keep in touch” with. Think of all those good people and how great it’d be to actually catch up. Well! In an effort to reunite & rekindle those connections, under the banners of Creativity & Community we invite you to join us.

The FIRST FRIDAY of every month at Proof Bar will host a unique blend of art in it’s various forms. Our hope is that this night will not only inspire those looking to pursue a creative craft, but also reinvigorate the exhibiting artists to keep doing what they so beautifully do. A little positivity goes a long way; come get your re-up once a month!

All good music. All good people. All good things. We’re putting all the pieces together to have a legit, open-minded atmosphere in our area since LA and SD get all of the fun! Come kick it, try something new and save the worry of the night going wrong. You only live once! For the flyer, more info and music, click ‘more.’

Dammit! I typed this whole thing out and realized it’s a private stream. Go on here to get to it. I threw in some extra doggie beats below. But I’m still gonna talk about it :)

It’s nice to take a break with all of the consistently flowing electronic music to listen to something a little more soulful. Dr. Dog is set to release their sixth studio album next week and have put out its stream in preparation for their performance on Conan next week! Glad to see they’re doing big things. I’m streaming the album as I write this, and it takes me back to Fate, two releases ago. Really solid melodies and uplifting vocals that grab you. Makes you want to sing along even though you don’t know the words. But if you did, you’d find their talent extends through beautiful lyrics. Some quality psychedelic rock and roll.

Preorder the album on iTunes! And if you’re in Southern California, check them out at the Observatory in Orange County two days after their album release on February 9th! Tickets here.

Doggie Beats
Dr. Dog – The Breeze
Architecture In Helsinki – Heart It Races (Dr. Dog Cover) Choice!
Dr. Dog – The Rabbit, The Bat, and the Reindeer
Dr. Dog – Shadow People

I’ll never forget this, but I met Beck awhile ago in Los Angeles when I went to see AIR. I fought through my star struckedness to see if he had any plans of releasing more work. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it seem likely. I was making my routine check up on Beck’s FaceBook with high hopes of some sort of announcement. Anything!! Found that he did this remix for Feist. I’ve always been really attached to Feist’s voice. It’s beauty is incomparable to anything I’ve heard. Plus Beck is one of the coolest, most unique artists out there. His style kinda reminds me of Asteroids Galaxy Tour. In the sense that it sounds like psychedelic electro rock from the 22nd century, except he has a little hip hop influence. Really love this guy.

Feist – How Come You Never Go There (Beck Remix)

BONUS BECK
Beck – Mixed Bizness
Beck – Que Onda Guero Choice!

We had a party the other night themed “End of the World,” and although people didn’t really know what to wear, it got them thinking. What if the world really was to end tomorrow? Are you happy with where you are in life? Have you been making sure your life is the best it can possibly be? Are you too focused on planning for life to be better in the future? The thing I always think about is the possibility of freak occurrences. At any given time, something completely out of our control could happen. I just want to make sure that if it happens, I had made the most out of every last second. You only live once, ya know. Some food for thought: (Thanks Buddha)

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.

Enjoy #80!

If you didn’t believe that dreams really do come true, now’s a good time to start. Out of nowhere and while I’m still digesting the immaculate Dirty Talk EP, OLIVER drops this new remix of the relatively overplayed Childish Gambino song “Heartbeat.” And in two shakes of a lambs tail, I turn the corner and Treasure Fingers delivers his OG rendition of the track! At the moment, I’m favoring OLIVER’s take. It slaps a bit harder and has some pretty epic synths. Treasure Fingers takes the Funk Award, though, and this should be no surprise. Hear for yourself:

Childish Gambino – Heartbeat (Oliver Remix)

Childish Gambino – Heartbeat (Treasure Fingers Remix)

Apparently this isn’t the legitlegit version? Here’s what Treasure Fingers said:

“ehhh just realized this version isn’t right. trying to get the right one to the label to update it. sorry everyone! that arp synth shouldn’t be running thru the entire track like that haha, my B!”

I don’t often come across songs that I get as attached to as I have with T.E.E.D.’s (Orlando Higginbottom) remix of “It’s My Part.” It’s a song to get lost in. Orlando has this keen ability with how he handles his bass lines that always hooks me. I can just see him grooving on his drum kit through the whole track, keeping every part of it unique. Listen closely!
Joquil – It’s My Part (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs)

In preparation for his upcoming album, he released the first single…for free! At first I freaked out, because it was only available to his fans in the UK, but then one of our readers from UK sent me the song. :’) Makes me happy. He’s been touring around the UK too much! I mean, it is his native land…but the world needs more dinosaurs. Not as big on this track, but all of his stuff tends to grow on me.
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs – You Need Me On My Own (192 kbps)

In case you missed his last free release, follow this link or just listen below. Great song. The Twelves even put it in one of their recent mixes! So many good things.
