Treasure Island Music FestivalTickets

In its ninth year, Noise Pop and Another Planet Entertainment‘s Treasure Island Music Festival in San Francisco continues to impress with its lineup’s chock full of worthy headliners as well as the year’s fastest rising talent. Set on Treasure Island and void of conflicting set times, the festival has the added glory of a backdrop that little else can match.

This year’s installment features acts like Deadmau5, Big Grams (replacing Azaelia for the better), The War on Drugs, CHVRCHES, Shamir, Ex Hex and Bob Moses, among more. Also of interest are Silent Frisco‘s Silent Disco and Funny or Die‘s Blah Blah Blah which hosts local “battling” DJs and rising comedians, respectively.

Of all the festivals we’ve attended, TIMF takes the cake as most laidback. With billed acts splitting time between the Bridge and Tunnel stages, there’s absolutely no rush to get anywhere on the island and plenty of time to settle into a nice Autumn daze. Plan for cold nights and try the Irish Coffee.

Symbiosis Gathering

Listen Along

Symbiosis Gathering is a festival that never sleeps. And for us, the place we needed to be. Advertised as the closest representation of “the Burn”, Symbiosis provides an environment that blends inescapable earthly elements with counter-culture creativity focused on, well, symbiosis. Trade Burning Man’s whiteouts and dust storms for cool water and a nice breeze and it’s Symbiosis setting the bar even higher. Add to that some of the most impressive and interactive stage designs, art, and media (you can climb almost everything) around and you’ve barely broached the surface.

Despite all the bells and whistles, the people are the true attraction. Sexually comfortable and vibrantly free – both spiritually and physically – every attendee offers their deepest of generosities coupled with their quirkiest of virtues at a moment’s notice. It’s hard not to appreciate everyone’s presence whether you’re participating in the goofiness or just watching from afar. As one of the mainstay “transformational” festivals, Symbiosis does a great job at providing a welcoming community for everyone’s spiritual and worldly enrichment. And to top it all off, everyone knows how to party.

Benoit & Sergio are a duo we’ve been keeping our ears on and playlists full of for quite some time now. Characterized by a forlorn romanticism, their mellow yet highly danceable sound is perfect for these pensive fall nights. As it so happens, they’re on a quick US tour for the next week and WAVS is one of their stops.

Torosbros and Patrick Dylan will be helping to set the vibes for the night. Come through for a good time!

Ratatat needs little introduction. Their summer release, Magnifique, was 5 years in the making and their early summer tour stint featured tracks off it. They still have the jamming we love down. They return to LA on 9/28 to play The Mayan alongside Hot Sugar. We suggest showing up early.

Portland based producer EPROM excels in all things underground bass. Where he stands out is in a wide-ranging background in drum and bass, dubstep, beats and trap. Having last seen him live at HARD Summer 2014, we can only expect he’ll put on a show that’s just as wild both visually and sonically. Check him out Thursday at 10:45pm at The Grotto if you’re trying to start your fest off with some really bizarre and forward thinking sensations.

The two sisters that make up CocoRosie blend dreamy blues indie-pop vocals with experimental beats and electronica. While the combination of genres is rather peculiar, these sisters create a sense of alluring curiosity with that oddity. The addition of their interactive and artistic stage presence only makes the performance that much more worthy to see live.

Their upcoming album, Heartache City, and its first live performance headlines Symbiosis’ Sunday at Big Island. Bianca “Coco” will also be debuting her side project Bianca Casady & The C.I.A. in the US over the weekend. With both acts, you can be sure that the performance will be a theatrics-laden event. We’ll see you there.

Leading up the night are Best Ghost, GRYN and Mahalo with their wide range of techy bass and chill house sounds. Come through!
