Private Label Fridays in Hollywood is back! We got to go last week to see Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs play for the intimate showcase that is Lure Hollywood. This is one of the most consistent event series in LA, that we hope becomes a staple of the city. The lineup this time around includes: Treasure Fingers, Oliver, Breakbot, Aeroplane, Flight Facilities, and many more (Click here for the full lineup). The plan is to keep you guys updated as these events come and get you tickets when we can. We’ll definitely be there. Up front. Dancing. Let’s kick it! Just a pro tip with Lure…drinks are expensive. Like, really expensive. Like, “are you kidding me?” expensive. That is all.

The contest ends at 12PM Friday February 15th! The more ways you enter, the better your chance is to win. Be sure to be ready to check your e-mail, because I’ll be giving it to the first person who responds when the winner is chosen. GOOD LUCK!

Following up his latest EP, ‘All My Life,’ Gigamesh is back with a new single that might just be his best work yet. The preview is modestly titled ‘Enjoy’ and is driven by those upbeat nu-disco synth stabs that we’ve come to love. If you’re not dancing, something’s wrong.

BONUS GIGAMESH

Ladyhawke – Sunday Drive (Gigamesh Remix)

Unfortunately, we live in an age where mixtapes are disposable. There is something to be said about the trusted integrity of the artist if a tape can transcend time itself. Last week, Cherokee released a 30-minute-mix that could potentially and perpetually remain relevant evermore. The mix exclusively showcases a perfectly picked selection of Cherokee’s originals and remixes (released and unreleased alike).

One of the fondest, realest memories of my music collecting career was going to Target and dropping eight bucks on The Killers’ Hot Fuss. I put countless hours into that album. Learning the words and singing to myself. Namely “I got soul, but I’m not a soldier.” If you know, you know. Hearing Brandon Flowers voice is known to take my mind down Nostalgia-Ville. RAC’s remix of their single “Runaway” simply puts me in a happy place. The song finds such a fine balance of the beauty of RAC’s synths, and the soul of Flowers’ vocals. The beginning of the track briefly reminds me of the intro to Dillon Francis’ “I.D.G.A.F.O.S. 2.0.” See if you agree:

As certain DJs and producers continue to grow, the next logical step is to put together a unique live set. A performance that takes their shows to another level. Something special. Different. With everything that’s being done nowadays, what direction is there to go? Some DJs are incorporating a 3D aspect to the visuals of their performances. The show is already technically in 3D, because it is real life. You with me? In my opinion, this can go only so many ways. You know how some movies are coming out in 3D that really don’t need to be? Some things are just fine in 2D, and I was about to find out if this played out to be true at a concert.

CoachellAltDelight brings attention to special artists that will be featured in Indio come April.
Some we love. Some we just discovered. All essential.

72/79 Days

Some good things go away and never come back. Some good things go away and come back more powerful than before. I thought indie rock essentials Spoon were gone for good, until listening to a song a friend recommended recently. I recognized the voice, the unmistakable voice of Britt Daniel. Years after Spoon broke up, Daniel got together with Dan Boekner of Handsome Furs and Wolf Parade and made one good looking baby. That baby–Divine Fits–is really something beautiful and probably a force to be reckoned with live. If you look at the fine print of the Coachella ’13 lineup, you’ll see their name. That font should be bigger. It’s guaranteed to be an amazing show. Don’t miss them. You won’t regret it.

This is 26 days too late, but better late than never. Those of us who haven’t lived under a rock have clearly noted the impact of EDM, with DJs and producers moving en masse towards plastic feeling happy chords, radio-friendly vocals and generic “drops.” It may have been ubiquitous this year, but with producers such as Disclosure, Cyril Hahn, Snakehips and Maribou State keeping the quality standards high, I’m hardly complaining.

Trapstyle, in all of its over-hyped glory, continued to develop at a head-spinning rate thanks to the sheer restlessness of its key protagonists (Flosstradamus, Baauer, RL Grime and UZ). On the other hand, disco dug its platformed heels into all things shiny; from revivalist edits, to contemporary cuts and a newfound appreciation of the originals themselves (RIP Donna Summer). Thanks to Aeroplane, Breakbot, Cherokee and the like, it seems all was good under the disco ball.

So what musical movement is in store for 2013? Well, your guess is good as mine. What I can say with certainty, though, is that aside from electronic music’s lust for the latest trends, good music is good music. Hopefully this list proves it.
