I don’t want this concert recall being past due to take away from how special that night was. Let alone, how important it is for me to do my best to explain in detail what exactly went down. As far as dance music goes, what you get from a TEED set is unlike anything else. This is largely attributed to the crowd. No random Joe-Shmo is going to go to a Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs show. It was filled with true lovers! Allow me to explain after the jump…

This wasn’t TEED’s first time in LA. He had been hosted at a couple HARD events, but had yet to be featured at his own headlining show. After the devastation that overcame when his LA show in May got canceled, the waiting game began. OK I know that’s a bit over the top, but this guy is the real deal and he has that effect! So shut it. As soon as LA’s own event producers FYF Fest spawned the event page, I knew I wasn’t alone. A group of devout fans found their way on the page, eager to share their excitement. Myself included. When it sold out, everyone in there was very willing to help fellow fans find tickets until the night came.

RL Grime (Clockwork’s side project) took to the decks first and rattled the frame of the building to his pounding trap set. The night took a turn as we waited in the musky room for Orlando (of TEED) to send us on our long awaited journey. The second he waltzed out in his dino-stega-staurus attire, the piercing shrieks of guys and girls alike filled the room! The excitement shot my smile from ear to ear, and he greeted the crowd with “Panpipes.”

There we went. Through the tribal beats of our prehistoric friend. He proceeded to play every track off his debut album “Trouble.” Each song like revisiting an old friend. I had put so much time into that album that hearing it live put it together in a whole new way. Their greatness magnified to a level I thought impossible. Every song bouncier and more powerful than the next. Orlando sang every track live, and it sounded just how one would hope. The whole crowd singing right back at him in unison sent chills down my spine. Phones were out. Flip Cams were recording. People were doing their best to save the moment.

Orlando responded:
“I know you all have got your cameras and phones,
just don’t forget to use your feet.”

And our feet we used! Til the very last song: Household Goods. The roof might as well have blown off. A monumental ending for a monumental set. I couldn’t get myself to leave the venue. Finding anyone and everyone that was willing to talk about what had just happened. Cherry on top of the night was when I look to my left to find Orlando, smoking a fag, being awesome, taking it all in. So this goes out to you, Orlando. THANK YOU!
