When Robert DeLong‘s name popped up on the Coachella lineup, I was nothing short of ecstatic. The track that caught my attention was “Happy” when he opened for Dillon Francis a year ago. Since then, he’s been making waves across the entire music industry, which is no surprise considering his incredible musical talent. His debut album Just Movement has been receiving a lot of attention since it came out in early February. Every song on the album is different – which is refreshing. He mixes melodic pop/dance with driving electronic beats that are guaranteed to get you going. Especially live, but I’ll get to that. Even more spectacular and unique are the existentially spiritual musings; which, unexpectedly, blend perfectly within each song.

His live set is nothing short of awe-inspiring. He’s quite literally a one-man band, moving between a MIDI interface, drum pads, a keyboard, a laptop, a full drum set – oh, and he also uses video game controllers – need I say more!? Even if you don’t particularly enjoy his music, I highly recommend stopping by just for the sheer entertainment of watching him at play. His hard work and hypnotic live set have earned him a well deserved spot on the Coachella bill. Catch him Sunday. For those of you that can’t wait ’til April or won’t be at Coachella, he’ll also be making appearances at SXSW, Ultra, and Bonarroo 2013.
