New jam from The Jealous Guys featuring production from UK producer Kwes. Kwes really shines, creating a harmonious mix of soft synths and snares with a mellow bassline. I’ve come to expect tracks from BizYCasa and Ayinde to be accompanied by proper production. Show ’em some love, it’s that music with a message. Less braggadocio more provoking of thought. Throw it up if you’re tryna live life. (YOLO)

The cats who brought to our attention that San Francisco is Brainwashed by London released their 4 track Audiobook EP last month and it’s starting to get into the dangerous overplayed territory on my iPod. While I would’ve liked more tracks on the release, the project reflects a lot of time and effort put into its creation. Production comes courtesy of Jeremy “Zodiac” Rose, who handled most of The Weeknd‘s acclaimed House of Balloons. It’s refreshing to hear his somber cinematic beats be used for displaying lyrical talent rather than provoking Abel Tesfaye’s whining. BizYCasa and Ayinde stick true to their forte of superior writing ability, delicately weaving you through metaphors that’ll get you pausing the song. | (Don’t go dyin’ on me kid/Cause life is too grand fam, even before your kids have two kids) | This is more than just beats and rhymes — it’s thoughtful writing that displays a deeper appreciation for musicianship. It really is an audio book, especially considering all four songs will eventually be accompanied by music videos that should be appreciated in their own right (hit the jump for the two completed videos). #LifeInsomniac is the movement — don’t sleep on life. I can dig it. Make that first move today, not tomorrow. YOLO

New video from The Jealous Guys for “Genesis,” off their upcoming Audiobook EP. Grab ‘The Love Mixtape’ and get familiar, you’ll be happy you did. They’re gettin love from some big names today around the cybersphere and it’s deserved, this track is pretty powerful. We need this shit up on Rap Genius, I find myself rewinding to get these lines.

The Jealous Guys are two guys from SF that are taking a refreshing approach to making good hip-hop. I came across them after reading theirinterview over at mostly junkfood. They’ve got a message that a listener can attach to, which is always a good start (At the end of the day we live what we live and that’s Life Insomniac, which is not sleeping on life.). I proceeded to download “The Love Mixtape,” and haven’t been able to stop listening to it since. First of all, “Brainwashed by London” is one of the best songs I’ve heard this year. That track is flaming hot cheetos addicting. The beat struck me as raw as “Yonkers” did when I first heard it.
Ayinde and BizYCasa both mention that the root of their music is writing, and it really shows. Their lyrics reflect a thoughtful effort into detailed writing, which is a nice change of pace from My Drink Is Purple/Barney. SWAG. The result is serious storytelling skills and tightly woven wordsmith-ism. (Out Here Creating Words/Webster’s. Swag). The Love Mixtape gives you the subject matter that you’d expect from a title like that – not simply 50 minutes of raw bars but rather a complete project. Their sound at a couple points reminded me of early Little Brother. They’re currently working on “Audio Book,” a 4 track EP that apparently will be accompanied by 4 videos as well. I’m all for visual representation, adds to the experience. D/L The Love Mixtape and check out the video for “Brainwashed by London” below!
