Everyone! I’m on my way back to Orange County from Arizona’s Soundwave Festival with Boys Noize, Porter Robinson, Diplo and others at a waterpark! It was cloudy all day and rainy at night, but the weather couldn’t keep all of us from seeing some of the most fun sets I’ve been a part of. I got some really good videos for later. Happy to say that last week was an awesome week for music. Not only were we graced with three fat new albums (Holy Ghost!, Panda Bear, Mortal Kombat OST), but I was also able to pre-party for Coachella in style outside of CA borders…where my medical recommendation is useless. All good though. The most special thing about this week is the end of it. It’s almost here everybody. They screwed up my order for whatever reason, and now I gotta get my ticket at will call. That better be the only thing that goes wrong, because it’s a small price to pay for the insanity that will take place in Indio. We’re gonna get shirts and stickers real soon! Stay chooned.

The CoachellAltDelight series will put focus on the low key Coachella
artists that we at C+A+D feel like you should know about.
Less than a week til we’re all together!

Ok so these guys may not be as “low key” as the other artists we’ll be bringing up, but I just don’t want anyone to take a chance of missing ’em. And besides their name is WAY smaller on the flyer than they deserve. Jack Beats are turn table extraordinaires. They produce, remix, and DJ with an unmatched wobbly style that’s consistently filled with grimy bass. Jack Beats is formed of members of two separate turntable crews in the UK: Plus One from the Scratch Perverts and Beni G from the Mixologists. Together they throw down some of the nastiest sets I could ask for, and I’m saying this from first-hand experience. I’ve seen them twice and that’s not gonna stop me from being front and center for this. Their turntable experience is very apparent through their mixes, and I’m hoping they’ll bring out some unexpected tricks with their liveset at Coachella. They’ve got an album that’s set to release this year, so be ready for a lot of new tracks in Indio on Sunday!

-If you wanna see the video I got of them at HARD Haunted Mansion 2010, Click Here.
-Or Click Here to hear their new song “Elevator Music.”

J-J-J-Jack Beats

Jack Beats – All Night ft. John B Fresh Beats!
AC Slater – Jack Got Jacked (Jack Beats Remix) C+A+D Favorite!
TC – Deep (Jack Beats Remix) [HQ Set Rip]
La Roux – I’m Not Your Toy (Jack Beats Remix)
Florence and the Machine – Drumming Song (Jack Beats Remix)

Los Angeles’ own Foster the People is a three piece rock band that formed in October of 2009. Since then they’ve released a self-titled three song EP that has received a lot of praise, especially overseas. The first time I heard them was when I saw their video for “Pumped Up Kicks.” The video is filled with good vibes and beach bum lifestyle that they try and send through your headphones. The EP runs way too short, in my opinion, and yet it doesn’t keep me from shuffling through it for days at a time. I can hardly manage to sit still through their psychedelically groovy sound while I’m writing this. Their set time is yet to be released, but they’re going to be sharing the stage with the likes of Ratatat, The Strokes, Ellie Goulding, MEN, Phantogram, and others on Sunday. I’m excited to see these guys blow up, because a lot of good things are in store for them.

It’s a different feeling when you go to a show that you know is going to be worth every penny of the ticket. I’ve seen Wolfgang Gartner at Coachella, EDC, and TAO, so I knew he could rock the hell out of a festival. I was just curious to see how he’d bring it at a smaller, more intimate venue. Plus, I’ve heard only good things about Felix Cartal, and I was just as amped for his set.

We got there relatively early, but for a sold out show, I was surprised to be able to just walk right into the venue. Small place with a balcony added for multiple options, but we went straight to the pit. All the opening DJs pulled out their best tricks, but I was ready to see what the deal was with Felix. I had no idea what to expect, but he delivered some of the grimiest and twisted, electro house that had me going hard for his whole set. Saving energy wasn’t an option through the constant ravey synths and bass that I just love to hear live.

Wolfgang’s set was scheduled for 12-145, and he peaked out with his gear around 11:59. He was greeted with the third “WOLFGANG” chant of the night, this one being the loudest by far. As soon as he took on the tables he slammed us with heavy bass and blasted the lights of his crazy ass live setup. He played everything we wanted to hear: Illmerica, Space Junk, Mornin After Dark Remix, and ended with Fire Power. There’s something about the way that Space Junk drops that sends a tingle down your spine when the synths hit. I was happy to hear a LOT of songs I’ve never heard that clearly had his sound, and I can say with confidence that his album is going to be monumental when it comes out.

1:45 rolled around and Wolfgang had to close shop among a house full of fans that were turned down of their encore requests and hungered for more. I gotta give the MVDJ award to Wolfgang, but he was followed closely by Felix. Wolfgang’s geometric set up with the lights and everything really changed it all, but Felix didn’t fuck around. I’m starting my search of his stuff now so help me if you know of good stuff! If you haven’t seen Wolfgang make more of an effort to do so. You’ll see a DJ set done right.

This long-haired ginger and UK native is making his way up with an electronic style that thrives on diced up samples and extends through the music spectrum. Star Slinger has an awesome way of bring a handful of genres together with a funky flare that’s catchy as hell. Making beats through samples is coming up more and more as DJ’s are perfecting their skills and people are opening up to electronic. Star Slinger’s debut full length Volume 1 is a solid compilation of his range of beatsmithery. A talent worthy of its own word. He’s a got a knack for unique remixes too. Watch out for his EP “Bedroom Joints” that released this year. You can buy both for relatively cheap at his bandcamp.

So the kings of tease relieved our blue balls by releasing their newest track today. We pretty much know what we’re going to get with Dada Life at this point, which isn’t the greatest thing, but I’m diggin’ the beat…I’m a sucker for hard hitting synths. Not 100% on the vocals, but they’ll probably grow on me. One thing I know for sure is that hearing this live would start a riot. Snag the full quality on beatport.

Our French friends with the leather jackets are finally making a comeback this year. I have a really good feeling about this especially judging by how great this song is. They have such a way with putting vocals in their songs that always stood out to me, aside from their epic pianos and funky bass lines of course. “Civilization” is right up there with DVNO, D.A.N.C.E., Valentine, and Tthhee Ppaarrttyy. We got the Jus†ice we want.

Jus†ice – Civilization EDIT: Now in high quality!

THE BEATING OF A MILLION DRUMS
THE FIRE OF A MILLION GUNS
THE MOTHER OF A MILLION SONS

The full version is going to be released on 4/4, so get ready. Jus†ice! EDC please???
