If you were into the Joey Bada$$ tracks I posted last week here’s some more from him & Capital Steez I dug up via their YouTube/Progressive Era mixtape. Just been playing these dudes on repeat, shit is so nice. The buzz is gonna come soon, they got some real talent. Even got some love from Mac a couple days ago. Hit the jump for all of it.

A handful of solid new tracks this week. Another good track from Ab-Soul who keeps consistently putting out good music of substance. Couple from Mac Miller, one featuring Diggy Simmons who just confused me with that verse. Male Nikki? I don’t understand. Fashawn hooked up with Wiz Khalifa and made a solid crusin jam. Still waiting on Wiz to spit an original thought. Cormega, Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, Saigon teamed up to create the super group M.A.R.S…. the first track getting me excited for things to come, just bars. Bronsolino’s gonna have a great year. And J. Cole also hooked it up with an unreleased song too. Good ass week. Here’s to a better one next week.

Ab-Soul – Showin Love
Mac Miller ft. Diggy Simmons – Definition of Cool
Mac Miller – Loud
Wiz Khalifa – Money (ft. Fashawn)
Cormega, Action Bronson, Ron Marciano, Saigon (M.A.R.S.) – MARS
J. Cole – Visionz of Home

Brooklyn’s Joey Bada$$ just released “Waves” off his upcoming 1999 tape. Dude is only 17 but you would never guess. Always refreshing to hear someone who can spit with something of value to express (ATTN dime a dozen rappers: we no longer care about your come up stories). I got stuck after “They say hard work pays off/Well tell the Based God don’t quit his day job.” There’s something about the rhythm of NY rap that no one else can fxck with IMO. Don’t sleep on the kid. Look out for 1999 next month.

| Like I told you, I know nxggas who trash rappin/Worried bout the trending fashion rather than descending passion |

Joey Bada$$ – Waves
Joey Bada$$ x Jay Steez – Survival Tactics
Joey Bada$$ – Blooming Blossoms (Flowers pt. 1)

You’d find Rhymesayers’ Brother Ali by flipping to ‘U’ in a dictionary, hovering somewhere between ‘underappreciated’ and ‘underrated.’ It’s my belief that his style is simply unluckily living in the wrong era of hip-hop, where substance has given way to style. The Minnesotan just released a free EP, The Bite Marked Heart, a seven track project that further displays his soulful lyrical ability that shows its face through skilled storytelling and writing rather than abstract metaphors. This is an EP about love, but not in the simp-ass Drake way — more grown man shit. Look out for his Mourning in America album later this year.

Brother Ali – Shine On +++
Brother Ali – I’ll Be There (ft. Phonte & Stokley Williams)

After delivering what was the unanimous best hip-hop album of 2011, Compton, CA’s Kendrick Lamar will take the next step in his career by appearing on stage Friday at Coachella. Kendrick firmly cemented himself in the eyes of hip hop fans as one of the leaders of the game over the past few years, but this is a recommendation for any who don’t tend to steer towards the genre to pencil his set into your schedules. He continues to gain only the utmost respect from his peers as well as legends in hip-hop with a combination of unmatched lyrical finesse and a consciousness that’s currently lacking in most other new artists. His live show is filled with passion and skill – no unnecessary hype man. The future’s brighter for the young man than any lenses could shade, don’t sleep on this set (and don’t be surprised if some surprise guests grace the stage).

Kendrick Lamar – Rigamortus
Kendrick Lamar & Nosaj Thing – Cloud 10
Kendrick Lamar – Hol’ Up

Coachella‘s on the horizon, which means it’s time to get you lucky ticketholders ready for the two weekend extravaganza. Harlem’s A$AP Rocky popped up on everyone’s radar when he slowed down last summer with “Purple Swag.” I honestly couldn’t rationally tell you why he’s good, I just know when I shut up and listen my ears are down. He combines the slickness of NY rap with the southern trill style with other shit I can’t really discern. He doesn’t really say much on LiveLoveA$AP if you’re one to analyze lyrics, but it’s tough to pay attention anyways when the production courtesy of Clams Casino, Spaceghost Purp, and others sends your brain to a different realm. He takes swag rap from stupid as fuck to enjoyable which is cool with me. Great to listen to when you’re all twisted on multiple substances which tends to happen in Indio. Catch him on Friday.

A$AP Rocky – BASS
A$AP Rocky – Peso
A$AP Rocky – Brand New Guy (ft. Schoolboy Q)
A$AP Rocky – Wassup
A$AP Rocky – Pretty Flacko

cheers

Logic‘s one of those few artists that when you first come across immediately captivate your attention like a 20 mg XR adderall. You look up at the clock after travelling through a YouTube pipeline and you’ve lost all sunlight for the day. He’s got something good cookin. Old school sound with new school flavor. The flow is “elegant, never irrelevant,” and borderline aurally hypnotizing. The passion for lyricism is obvious even to the most oblivious. Pushes the message of peace & positivity and the confidence is based off of ability not possessions. Dude is nice, plain and simple. Check his new video for Young Sinatra III and grab his Young Sinatra tape below if you haven’t.
