WIth all the recent hype and appreciation for big room house from the rising popularity of huge festivals, Swedish House Mafia is getting a run for their money. After moving up 33 spots, Avicii is sitting comfortably at 6th best DJ in the world (according to polls) and SHM at 10th. Despite the fact that Guetta being at #1 invalidates the entire list, the dance music scene just got a lot more interesting. Speaking of interesting, cool to see Coldplay branching into the scene, calling on these two superstars to recreate the single from their upcoming album. It’s called Mylo Xyloto and it’s set to release on October 24th!

Bringing Coldplay into the house mix was a solid game plan. Chris Martin’s voice has this strange feel good ability that is a prime addition to any big room house track. Between the two, I gotta give it to the #6 DJ in the world, Avicii. I like SHM, and they have a particular sound that just works, but it seems rushed. You can hear the extra effort Avicii put into this mix, and it just plain old hits a lot better at the drop. Both are quality tracks if you’re into the more uplifting house shebang. Steer clear if you’re into the more face melting stuff, and go here.

Alright people get ready for some smoosh smoosh, because we’re taking the C+A+D train to Jersey Shore. Pomp your hairs and spray your tans, because Louis has made our soundtrack! I feel bad for the people from Jersey. Fake tans and being a douche have become synonymous with the area because of that stupid show. Despite my disdain for the program and how it contributes to MTV’s downfall, Louis La Roche has made a gem of a house track in their honor. Louis has to be one of the most supremely slept on house producers in the game. He pumps out song after song that are to the catchiness level of Duck Sauce or even Daft Punk. This is a funk lovers dream come true and has been racking up a copious amount of plays in my library. I’ve definitely been caught dancing to myself with its tune in my head. Pretty embarrassing. So I apologize ahead of time when you get caught.

This weekend I got a very special chance to see one of my favorite producers of all time, Style of Eye, come to town and destroy Motiv here in Santa Cruz. He played the main SF weekly at EPR the night before, and went onto Control at Avalon in Hollywood and to Voyeur in San Diego the next two nights, and I was incredibly stoked to not have to make the drive to any of those places, but instead got to see him in front of 200 other like minded nut-jobs and witnessed him bang the fuck out on 3 cdj’s (yes, he made extensive use of all three). It’s no secret that I have a musical boner for this guy, his Wet/Dry e.p. totally brought me back to life and it’s been in my sets for days now, and his track ‘We Are Boys’ has garnered support from some of the biggest dj’s in the world. I love this guy not only because he’s basically Jesus for Tech House (and a super friendly dude, bonus points), but his track output is unlike any other dj anywhere, both in varied styles and overall quantity. Take a look at my past Thursday…

He dropped a track that’s coming out on Crookers’ new album that they collaborated together on, a bit goofy, a bit creepy, all fun :) Here’s a rip from Tiesto’s latest club life where it was featured.

I’m just a damn fan of this guy. The playful style, immaculate production, and the sheer talent he possesses make him one of the best in the biz says I. If you so choose to head over to his beatport your ears will thank you.

Wear good headphones, and support the music!

The homie Skinny Genes started his weekly YOLO Lists with the intention to open your minds and ears to every genre of music — the idea being that life’s too short to hate on a type of music until you realize that you actually enjoy it. So when artists from different ends of the spectrum come together in harmonious musical innovation, it makes the process much easier for us. Recently, the trend has been combining hip-hop and different paces of electro; producers see it as a logical gap to forge together the two most popular genres. There’s parts of both that agree thematically with a grungy DIY feel. Both are not apprehensive about hard hitting drums. With a few exceptions (HoVeezy/ChiddyBang), it’s been low-key MCs trying to make a name and using the concept as a niche. But a few songs have been released over the past week with legitimate names in the game (not Sam Adams) that’s led to giving it further thought. Of the three, it’s most apparent to me that Joker‘s style meshes best with rhymes; I’ve yet to determine whether it’s a healthy relationship though. If you guys have any solid collabs that have pleased your ears drop em off in the comments prz. Is this a matrimony that needs a divorce or just some serious counseling? Don’t be shy with yer opinions.

Seems like electro pop has been in steady flow as of late. Lots of bands are starting to pick up on the indie/electro fusion, which is good news for us. I love this stuff! Very much of a pick-me-up when you need it, and always a helping hand towards the betterment of your day.

First up is the rather fresh sound from Belgian solo artist Expo. Reminiscent of Cut Copy’s In Ghost Colours, but with a voice that suggests of a more seductive Jamie XX. He’s only got two tracks out as of now, “Right Here With Me” and “I Don’t Mind.” Both are really strong tracks, but I prefer the former. “Right Here With Me” yearns for a love out of reach, but stays hopeful. The dreamy synths still manage to stay bouncy, and the piano at the end couldn’t have brought it all together more beautifully. You can’t help but sing with the chorus as it takes you to a better place. The guy’s got an EP set to release at the beginning 2012, and he doesn’t have many Facebook fans yet so help him out and spread the word!

And this may be a bit of a nostalgic treat for most of you. I don’t think I could count the amount of minutes that I put into Transatlanticism in my preteen days. That album will forever reserve a special place in my heart for Death Cab for Cutie. In this remix, C+A+D favorites Cut Copy take the funky jam and throw a tribal spin under that oh so familiar voice of Ben Gibbard. Such a trip to so vividly see a band’s transformation through the times as that of Death Cab’s. They seem to have comfortable nestled their way in to today with a remix EP in our horizon titled Keys and Codes. They’ll supposedly be releasing one song a week until the November 22nd release date. This…..I can deal with. Welcome back into our lives Death Cab!

Wolfgang’s hotly anticipated album was finally released a week ago, and I had to let it marinate before I could put in my two cents. Wolfgang has been in the game for longer than people are led to believe, and he still remains as one of the most consistent producers and DJs out there. Almost two years in the making, this album’s release was not taken lightly in the slightest. Nowadays, with electronic albums as a whole consisting mainly of standout bangers, expectations were still set high for Weekend In America, and Wolfgang managed to meet and exceed them in more than one regard. The album may come off as a dabble into a more radio friendly, mainstream sound but stays true to Wolfgang’s creatively hard hitting production abilities. (more…)

While on a search for a downloadable MP3 of the Justice Remix of “The Golden Age” I posted a few days ago, I came out with more than fruitful results. Not only is the Danish duo of Asteroids Galaxy Tour set to release a new album at the end of January, but their first single is out AND they’re playing two shows in Los Angeles in a matter of weeks! More on their shows in a bit. The single “Major” is a sound for sore ears, as they say. The song doesn’t play any games. It instantly captures you with everything that is and will be Asteroids Galaxy Tour. The grooviest of trumpet intros sucks you into an Austin Powers era of shagadelic funk. Next thing you know you’re lost in a sea of all your lustful desires as Mette Lindberg graces the song with her edgy lyrics and oh so sexy, I-don’t-give-a-f*ck vocals. Mark your calendars! Out of Frequency is coming out January 31st! If you want to pick up so more tracks from these guys, make your way over to our previous post.

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour – Major

Oh! I guess you could say my search was succesful, but the mp3 is in low quality format. This will have to do for now.
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour – The Golden Age (Justice Remix) (128 kbps)

CULTURE COLLIDE FEST (after the jump) (more…)
