If you didn’t believe that dreams really do come true, now’s a good time to start. Out of nowhere and while I’m still digesting the immaculate Dirty Talk EP, OLIVER drops this new remix of the relatively overplayed Childish Gambino song “Heartbeat.” And in two shakes of a lambs tail, I turn the corner and Treasure Fingers delivers his OG rendition of the track! At the moment, I’m favoring OLIVER’s take. It slaps a bit harder and has some pretty epic synths. Treasure Fingers takes the Funk Award, though, and this should be no surprise. Hear for yourself:

I don’t often come across songs that I get as attached to as I have with T.E.E.D.’s (Orlando Higginbottom) remix of “It’s My Part.” It’s a song to get lost in. Orlando has this keen ability with how he handles his bass lines that always hooks me. I can just see him grooving on his drum kit through the whole track, keeping every part of it unique. Listen closely!
Joquil – It’s My Part (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs)

In preparation for his upcoming album, he released the first single…for free! At first I freaked out, because it was only available to his fans in the UK, but then one of our readers from UK sent me the song. :’) Makes me happy. He’s been touring around the UK too much! I mean, it is his native land…but the world needs more dinosaurs. Not as big on this track, but all of his stuff tends to grow on me.

LA’s longest running weekly party is back again this Thursday with an especially awesome lineup. Dance Right sticks to getting the most fun DJs and caters to an overwhelmingly comfortable atmosphere. Everyone there is trying to get down and meet new like-minded people. I love that shit. Last time I was there, Treasure Fingers took the decks and I ended up losing my hat, phone, and took a cab back from LA to Orange County even though my car was down the street. Too much fun? Tennessee-spawned Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber are the two dudes that make up indie-funk/electronic-pop/howeverthefuckyouwannacategorizeit outfit Cherub. Since forming in 2010, the two have performed with the likes of Pretty Lights, Alex B, Miami Horror and Bag Raiders. I’m expecting them to explode pretty soon because they are awesome, releasing their vibrantly catchy debut EP last fall, which you can download for free from their facebook. Expect to see a lot more of these guys.

After ticket sales came to a close a bit earlier than expected and a bunch of my friends lagged, this show ended up being one for the bros. Perfect! I could have called it, considering how small Key Club is and the fact that HARD was putting it on. But it was all built up to be a super epic and intimate show…for the bros. We were running late and I didn’t want to miss ANY of Gesaffelstein, assuming he’d perform before Brodinski. And I was just hoping they’d play together for a larger portion of the set. Finally got to meet the kids behind the bar after all these years, and these guys did work! Rocked Control Avalon like they were the headlining act. Didn’t hold back and threw down a hard electro set for a venue packed with disco house loving Treasure Fingers fans. They didn’t miss a beat and had the personalities to match. Here’s how it went:

We always make it a point to go to as many shows as possible, documenting for ourselves and everyone interested. The pictures started piling in in full force upon the addition of Philip Mendoza to the team, and I couldn’t be more happy about it! I love looking at event pictures and to have someone with us who shoots at the level he does is a dream. As the library of pictures and videos has been building the past year, it’s time to look back at the most epic of them all! Definitely going to make a point to shoot more rock shows in 2012.
