What I thought about drum & bass was forever changed after I stumbled into Sub Focus’s set at Coachella. It didn’t quite strike home after years of knowing it existed, but seeing its potential live really set it all straight. And Of all the d&b I’ve been seeking since, L Plus encompasses just about all the good it can be. His four song release titled Amazing EP came out just last weekend, and it’s stuffed with the uplifting synths and high-energy BPM that would be a killer at any show that you’d want to go crazy! I love that stuff. Really changes everything about a show. You’ll understand when you listen:

I still remember long ago when I first heard Yuksek have his way with Phoenix’s over-remixed “Lisztomania,” where he showed everyone precisely how it’s done. He’s been known for procuring some of the danciest tracks in the game and much hasn’t changed. Today he finds the release of two EPs where he hopes will lead him to well deserved, widespread recognition. The first is his solo work entitled The Edge EP. Perfect for any Summer playlist, The Edge is made in textbook poolside style. The track received touchups from Aeroplane, Panteros666, Beni and Kim…all of which were new to me, but Aeroplane’s reigned supreme. Purchase the EP here!

The next is a special treat for all of the avid nu disco fans out there. Yuksek teamed up with legendary producer The Magician to form Peter & The Magician. Together they produced the Memory EP with remixes by Le Crayon, NSFW and POiNDEXTER. This EP came together a lot better of the two, though I wouldn’t rule out The Edge. I just like how Memory went a bit more tribal with its danciness. I just imagine myself stranded beach side, palm trees, coconuts, sand between my toes and everything’s just gravy. Plus Le Crayon’s funky rerub is just too funky for words! Purchase the EP here!

My friend got to study abroad in Europe over fall, and like me, he was obsessed with the idea of immersing himself in a culture he was unfamiliar with. That’s why I was surprised when he said his favorite place that he visited was the UK. Apparently there is something there that is intertwined with the music scene that made it such a desirable location to settle in…and probably because they spoke English and it was just easier.

Regardless, it’s undeniable that the UK has a knack for birthing some of the more cutting edge music to travel through the interweb. And here we have Disclosure. Two brothers taking UK garage music and adding their own futuristic, even dream-like take on the sound. Each track is filled with soulful vocals that are too easy to get lost in. When I got their debut Free-P (Download Here), they didn’t really hit home with me. It wasn’t until the release of their latest The Face – EP ’til it all made sense. That being said, start with The Face first. Sit back. Chill out. Let Disclosure take over your mind, body and soul after the jump::

So the lease is up on my house and I was supposed to be out of here by 12 PM and it’s almost 4 now. Naturally, I’m looking for new music and my favorite rising star chose to go at another Steve Aoki tune. Even though his more recent works have strayed away from his bouncy moombahton sound I fell in love with, even though he’s kind of an asshole, I still stand by him. He’s pushing the envelope with his antics, but he’s still putting out hard hitting jams. This one in particular goes back to that bouncy style that I can’t get enough of. Reminds me of his earlier remixes like “She Blows (Whistle Tune)” and “Take It Back.” I was looking to download it online, but I figured this track was good enough to purchase.

The EDM scene is a perpetually forward moving machine. New genres are constantly being explored : old ones forgotten. After three decades of existence, the ever nostalgic disco scene lives on. Hips swiveling, fingers pointing and hands twirling, the disco ball gathers no moss. On the contrary:

Now here’s an artist that always gets me the weirdest look when I try to share him with a friend. “‘Totally Dino’ what?” It’s worth spreading, though, to everyone who’s willing to listen. He’s got a style that you won’t find anywhere else; a bass line crafted special for every song. Born Orlando Higginbottom, but otherwise known by his stage name as Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (T.E.E.D.) His debut album Trouble is finally out today! Thanks to the music gods I got my hands on an early release and have been waiting to share the review. Check our praise of the album and the tracklist after the jump:
