There’s a reason Biggie is the go-to rapper for current artists to use on their beats. His flow is impetuous. His lyrics are impregnable. He’s just ferocious! Of all the hip hop album mashups I’ve heard, this one takes the cake. It’s keeps consistent throughout its entirety. Though I prefer other renditions to some of the tracks, Flume‘s beats compliment Biggie’s flow with near flawlessness. Like some of the songs should have been made that way to begin with. I’ve included a couple classic Biggie beat mashups that still get a lot of playtime from me to this day.

“Gotta stay on the positive vibe. All my people gotta stay on the positive vibe.
Negativity just brings failure. You know? We ain’t trying to fail in this game. We trying to succeed.”

Following up his latest EP, ‘All My Life,’ Gigamesh is back with a new single that might just be his best work yet. The preview is modestly titled ‘Enjoy’ and is driven by those upbeat nu-disco synth stabs that we’ve come to love. If you’re not dancing, something’s wrong.

BONUS GIGAMESH

One of the fondest, realest memories of my music collecting career was going to Target and dropping eight bucks on The Killers’ Hot Fuss. I put countless hours into that album. Learning the words and singing to myself. Namely “I got soul, but I’m not a soldier.” If you know, you know. Hearing Brandon Flowers voice is known to take my mind down Nostalgia-Ville. RAC’s remix of their single “Runaway” simply puts me in a happy place. The song finds such a fine balance of the beauty of RAC’s synths, and the soul of Flowers’ vocals. The beginning of the track briefly reminds me of the intro to Dillon Francis’ “I.D.G.A.F.O.S. 2.0.” See if you agree:

As certain DJs and producers continue to grow, the next logical step is to put together a unique live set. A performance that takes their shows to another level. Something special. Different. With everything that’s being done nowadays, what direction is there to go? Some DJs are incorporating a 3D aspect to the visuals of their performances. The show is already technically in 3D, because it is real life. You with me? In my opinion, this can go only so many ways. You know how some movies are coming out in 3D that really don’t need to be? Some things are just fine in 2D, and I was about to find out if this played out to be true at a concert.

Alright to be honest, this post was a long time coming. When I first heard that Breakbot mix, I didn’t know what to do. I fell in love. I listened to it on repeat until I memorized the whole thing. You can quite literally start that mix from any part and just set sail on a glorious trip to disco-ville. Anyway, then the Flume mix came out. I mean, this kid has been doing such big things. His debut album (top 3 on our best of 2012) is topping chart after chart around the world. This mix he did for The Fader showcases his wicked awesome style along some of his best productions. Really good stuff to just chill out or drive to. Can’t get enough.

THEN, the other night…our boy Treasure Fingers (interview) dropped his new mix for DJ MAG out of nowhere! Treasure Fingers just so happens to be one of my all-time favorite mixologist. For good reason. He’s a true talent that the everyone can appreciate. Going from being in one of the top drum & bass acts in the world (Evol Intent), to being at the forefront of the disco house movement. This mix isn’t any less dancy than his former releases. Be ready for more cowbell, hi-hats, and booty shakin’ gems for a solid hour.

Beatport’s 2012 Artist of the Year (source) are back to it with an original track to start off the new year! I love how consistent these kids are with putting out new material. Feeding their hungry fans with originals and remixes and having them begging for more. Their sound continues to move forward with every release, and this song of course is no different. With supporting vocals from the lovely AlunaGeorge, “White Noise” comes together in a very special way. How they work their beats has an infectious effect on the mind, body, and soul. With their dreamlike sounds and soulful vocals, their tracks continue to amaze. Check out some bonuses of my favorite tracks after the jump. No word on the release date for “White Noise” yet.
