10. DIIVOshin

My favorite break out band of this year, DIIV took their synthesis of chill-wave and indie rock to a new level this year. It’s one of those rare, intuitive albums that you can keep on repeat for days without ever feeling stuck. It’s bound to become a summer classic.

9. The VaccinesCome of Age (Indie/Rock)

Brit rockers the Vaccines released their sophomore album this fall. It was well worth spending the first half of the year in antsy anticipation. They’ve really progressed since their debut. I can’t wait to see what’s next from these versatile dudes.

8. Jack WhiteBlunderbuss

What is there to say about this album except: Jack White. Jack Fuggin White. Enough said.

7. Dr. DogBe the Void

Seven albums later, Dr. Dog is still going strong, with no signs of slowing down any time soon. I was lucky enough to see them in concert three times this year and each show was better than the last. Needless to say, this album was debatably one of the strongest indie albums that came out this year and its material was fantastically fun live.

6. Luke LalondeRhythymnals

This album snuck up on us but was one of the best surprises of the year. The Born Ruffians frontman really managed to set himself apart with this one. Not to mention, get us really really really really excited for Born Ruffians next album. Coming soon.

5. Two Door Cinema ClubBeacon

Weird album art aside, Two Door Cinema Club managed to outshine their internationally successful debut with their followup Beacon. Lighthearted but not cheesy, this is an album to keep in your car at all times.

4. FlumeFlume

It all started with producing software in cereal box. Ever since, Flume has been working hard behind the scenes on putting together an album that would illustrate a blend between what chillwave was and what underground dub music will become. His self titled album starts running and showcases an array of different styles for everyone.

3. Totally Enormous Extinct DinosaursTrouble

Orlando Higginbottom AKA TEED has made waves in the electronic scene in 2012. What started as a couple four track EPs has become Trouble, fifteen songs crafted to perfection. In straying from the beaten path, TEED has created a masterpiece that will long be looked back on as a major player in the evolution of dance music.

2. Beach HouseBloom

This album. Where to start with this album? Their fourth record to date, the dream-pop duo has really created something spotless. I would build a summer house inside of “Myth” if that was possible.

1. Tame ImpalaLonerism

Conceptually, this album is about as flawless as they come. Everything–from the album cover to the ambient effects–draws together a powerful theme of emotional seclusion and loneliness. This album is likely to become a classic.
