Bassnectar released this free mixtape today. Chock full of unreleased tracks, remixes, mashups and pretty much any other type of choon you could imagine. I got excited because I thought it was split into track by track, but it’s still a huge mix. If you’re trying to sit back and relax, stay clear of this tape. Although the album art is a whirlwind of color, this mix shows a 90% chance of a wobble storm and 100% chance of you losing your shit.

After a few days of deliberating, I decided to go ahead and kick off a new weekly mix series for you guys, gonna feature mostly electro, but really is gonna comprise of whatever I’m rocking out to that week, some oldies, some goldies, either way it’ll be a good time. Here’s a new filthy remix of Porter Robinson‘s The State, courtesy of SKisM. The British producer goes bonkers on your cerebellum with 2 and a half minutes of w0mps and bass. This one’s set to release on Skrillex’s semi-mysterious new OWSLA record label (looking forward to what kind of talent he accumulates on there). Porter Robinson – The State (SkiSm Remix)

Blending genres has always fascinated me — there’s universal similarities in responses to underlying themes in music across genres: hardcore and dubstep, hip-hop and soul, electronic and indie, etc. The first time I heard a dubstep track, the first thought that ran through my mind was “holy shit, this is the gangster rap of electronic music.” So it’s starting to make sense in my eyes why many acts have failed at bringing together hip-hop and dubstep into a matrimony of harmonious filth. Frat-rap with dubstep doesn’t mesh well; the message of the former is girls weed and nice things, whereas the latter serves the purpose of temporarily removing your head from the body it normally controls. Two completely different vibes. The album that led me to this conclusion is Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture Vol. 2: Enter the Dubstep, a collection of Wu-Tang tracks set to the impure sounds of some raw artists, including Excision, Datsik, and Evol Intent. They aren’t so much remixes into completely new tracks as they are Wu-Tang verses set to the tune of dubstep. It all comes together quite nicely; now the next step is to get some more impressive Big L dubstep re-works. Grab it on iTunes or Google can help you out.

We posted Bassex‘s killer remix of Portugal. the Man’s Sleep Forever a couple weeks ago, and today we have another filthy rework from him, this time of Adele’s ‘Someone Like You.’ People have been bitching about an overabundance of Adele remixes but I’m still in my phase of infatuation with her voice. Bassex has got some serious talent and is making a name for himself, keep an eye out for more from him!
