daft punk

Despite this recent wave of depressing weather in California, MLK Jr. was feeling extra generous this year and hooked it up with a glorious sunshine filled weekend. Unfortunately, I got into a bit of trouble; the EPA insisted I was releasing unreasonable amounts of w0mp into the atmosphere. These are the culprits:

Hirshee – Big Life (Drivepilot Remix) <-♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Couldn’t dig up much on Drivepilot (aka Nick Edwards). All I could scoop up is he’s based in Portland, Oregon and he just dropped his EP “Fuck Yeah!” on Traction Records.

Matisse & Sadko – Hi Scandinavia <-♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Russian duo Matisse & Sadko stepped up to the plate and delivered a beautiful house track, clearly inspired by none other than the Swedish House Mafia.

A.G. Trio – Electro Messiah (RiskoDisko Remix) <-♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Portugese DJ/Producer RiskoDisko doesn’t have much of a bio, he does however, compare himself to Hollis P Monroe… “low budget, raw and under-produced”.

Woo Boost Like My Daddy (Clubsauce Mashup) <-♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
A fresh take on an unforgettable classic, Clubsauce chops up some vocals and keeps it inventive. I tried doing some research on these guys; unfortunately, the only statement they’ve made is “so spicy”

Bonus

I was cleaning up some old iTunes playlists and I stumbled upon these forgotten treasures.
Daft Punk – Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer ’08 Runway Mix 256 kbps
Justice – Dior Homme Spring Summer 09 Mix 192 kbps =(

EDIT: Turns out it’s just another BS Daft Punk rumor. It was fun while it lasted! Full article.

The Coachella lineups is expected to drop within the next couple of weeks or so; frantically, every music loving soul on the western seaboard will be anxiously skimming the poster for those two magical words, Daft Punk. Until recently, The French duo has been completely off the map, but rumors of a Daft Punk side project have been spreading like mono at a middle school rager. It’s under speculation that they decided to go under the alias ‘The Third Twin,’ to put out an album called ‘Homemade’. If you try to look into them, you’ll be left with nothing but a vague possibility. I was however, able to dig up an interesting Q&A.

Well, the big question is obvious, are you Daft Punk?

(TTT): Actually this question is something that disappoints us greatly, since our inception we have escaped the commercialism, the music never must be confused with the image. Comparisons are meaningless for us. And that the real reason for our project, the comparison between twins does not make sense, so the name The Third Twin.

Scope the whole interview available in 4 languages HERE.

Another thing I thought was noteworthy was that, at the peak of TRON soundtrack leaks, someone under the username AlexDaft26 posted 11 songs that said they were off the unreleased soundtrack. The artist names were later changed to The Third Twin after Disney said they had nothing to do with the soundtrack. All of this is very interesting, of course.

They definitely have the aesthetic feel…several familiar samples… The Third Twin could possibly be Daft Punk… or perhaps just some kids manipulating free publicity; either way, the album itself really does a lot of good.

The Third Twin’s Homemade

*Unfortunately, this leak is 128kbps

1. Technolers
2. Evil Minds
3. Chicago Soul
4. Justice
5. Ra Men Kepher
6. Americ Family
7. Empty Fire
8. Worm Earth
9. The Time Is Over
10. Arecibo’s Song
11. This Is Love

The masked crusaders have been getting quite a lot of talk recently with TRON: Legacy dropping in less than a month. “Who are these guys? What’s their deal? They only have that one good song… “Harder, Stronger, Whatever” with Kanye, right?” Wrong. These guys paved the road for over a decade of electro producers before anyone even knew you could bring back da funk through some wires and a computer. Daft Punk, comprised of Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel De Homem Christo, have become gods in the industry, the epitome of “right.” Never questioned. They make monumental moves before anyone would even consider them options: LED hats, massive light up pyramid, filth, funk, you name it. The release of their Alive 2007 album, live recording of their tour that year, was their last say in the direction they wanted the genre to take. All the while, raising the bar to an almost unattainable level for a live performance. I HIGHLY recommend you check out the video of it titled “Alive 2007,” appropriately. Fingers still crossed for a 2011 tour.

**FUN FACT!

Before Daft Punk was Daft Punk, they were a Beach Boys tribute band called Darlin’. It was Thomas, Guy, and another dude you might have heard of named Laurent Brancowitz. In a review, an author called it “a bunch of daft punk.” Thomas and Guy took that alias and created Daft Punk in 1993, while Lauren peaced out and became the guitarist of Phoenix. Small fuckin’ world…err France, I guess. Check the vid:

-Skinny Genes

Delightful Treats

Daft Punk – High Life
**Featured on YOLO20
Daft Punk – Crescendolls
**Featured on YOLO20
Daft Punk – The Prime Time Of Your Life (Tits & Clits Remix)

Daft Punk – Da Funk
**Probably my favorite track of theirs.

Special treat today..the music video for their single “Derezzed” off the TRON soundtrack:

The godfathers of electro funk have come out of hiatus to make the soundtrack for one of the most anticipated films of the year: Disney’s
Tron Legacy. Leave it to the Disney marketing team to place the soundtrack honor in the hands of one of the most demanded acts of our time. Those crafty bastards. I caught a listen to some leaks of the early soundtrack, and most of it came off very…sountracky, if you catch my drift. Dark, low key songs that aren’t worth much to listen to, but would fit well in the background of a film. This track failed to fall into that category, as it sheds light on the future of this dynamic duo. It’s weird to see their evolved sound through the years. Which is great, but, as Chronic Mncher put it, lacks the funk we’re used to. Although, I am loving it and can’t wait to see the movie and hear what else they put together. Daft Punk is very much alive. Let’s just hope they actually come through with a tour this year…please!

Delightful Treats

Daft Punk – Derezzed Delightful Choice!
First Song on Tron Soundtrack
Daft Punk – Aerodynamic (The Twelves Remix) Delightful Choice!
Daft Punk – Hard, Better, Faster, Stronger (Deadmau5 Remix)

*EDIT: Chronic mncher last minute bonus

Daft Punk – Around the World (Sebastian Leger’s Not To Be Released Remix)
Daft Punk vs. Outkast – Punkroses
Daft Punk – Da Funk (Casino Inc Amazing Disco Remix)
Daft Punk vs. Wu-Tang – Da Cream
Daft Punk vs. LMFAO – One More Time In Miami Bitch
Daft Punk vs. Tristan vs. Afrojack – Break Da Riverside Down

Electronic music is coming up in a big way, which is great. DJs today are putting together some of the nastiest, funkiest, hardest shit I’ve ever heard (shout out to Wolfgang Gartner). It’s time to look back at the influences of our generation in this genre. The godfathers of what we know as electronic today are none other than a combination of Daft Punk and Justice…in my opinion. Honarable mention: Soulwax, Boys Noize, sebastiAn and the Ed Banger crew. I know neither of these duos are in need of an introduction.

For tonight, I thought I’d make a throwback post to the album that really hit electronic home for me: Cross by Justice. This album made the transition into loving electronic music that much easier. It’s flawless from beginning to end. With classics like “D.A.N.C.E.,” “DVNO,” and “TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY” anyone can get down, whether you like electronic or not. They introduced a harder, more bass oriented aspect to electronic, and you can tell they had a lot of fun with it (I know they did on tour). Anyway, download and listen to this album. Become familiar with it because it get’s a lot of attention in DJ sets, rightfully so. This is one of those albums that’s never a bad idea to shuffle through.

9.5/10

A little somethin’ Extra:
We are your friends – Justice vs. Simian

This is the song that started it all for Justice. Straight up anthem-of-a-revolution type shit.

crazy ass live show set up
