Ben Gorvine, or Imagined Herbal Flows, is inspired by soulful hip-hop beats. His music emits a sense of calm reflection like a warm sunrise chasing the remnants of a night’s high.

Yannick Ilunga [alias: Petite Noir] has dubbed his sound ‘Noir Wave’. Sweeping vocals on top of tribal rhythms and modernized electronics tied to restless lyricism makes for some very mixed emotions. Since 2012, he’s been turning heads with his apprehensive new-wave meets African aesthetic. So much so that he caught the ear of Yasiin Bey [alias: Mos Def].

He just released The King Of Anxiety and it is a testament to the sentiment.

Unmistakably influenced by Japanese instruments, Katuchat’s Lonely Cloud EP emits a sense of weightlessness. His collaboration with Andrea, Rusty Hook, and Fresing only adds to the wonder. Out now via Moose Records.

London’s Ed Cares, better known as ‘CHILDCARE’, has a Free EP out. It is 4 tracks of high-energy pop-punk that’s got us remembering why we love live instruments and rock so much. We need to see a live show (for some bruises).

Imagine, if you will, our boys in blue donning instruments and crusading throughout the night to stop baddies from perpetuating the culture of terrible music. A welcome sight that would be, but alas our men in uniform have more pressing matters to attend to.

Instead, LAPD is the brainchild of multi-talented Ryan Pollie. The sound he’s developed is far from horrid. We finally got around to listening to his debut album and have only this to say: Buy it!

It’s a lo-fi heartbreak that when finished, leaves you in a strangely pained joy. It’s kind of like ripping off a band-aid. We mean that in the best of ways. He’s really talented. Buy his album. Album two coming soon!
