Hey everybody! Good to be back in the mix after an interesting weekend out of town…Got some fresh new music for you guys this week. Tyler, the Creator of OFWGKTA is releasing his much anticipated second album Goblin this Tuesday. +Jangbar will have us covered on that one. These guys are doing crazy big things and they’re even gonna be at HARD Summer this year. Should spice things up a bit. Also, what I’m most excited about is the audio and video recordings that have been surfacing from Coachella. There is nothing like having a recording of a set you were a part of. Something that you can save forever. When the crowd cheers it sends chills down your spine, because you were there and can swear that you hear yourself. I’m referring mainly to The Strokes recording. Amazing quality and it’s just as flawless as I remember. I zipped it up so you guys can download it easily. Go ahead and click here. Without further ado, I bring you #42:

Alright so I’ve been waiting to talk about this song for far too long, and I won’t wait a moment longer! The first time I heard this track was when Nero threw it on their essential mix (Click to DL) a few months back. All I could do was cue the essential mix up to 58:48 to hear that banger of a track drop for a less than a minute, until last week. Nero released their “Guilt EP” and this remix was one of the bonuses. You can bet Nero wouldn’t have chosen Feed Me‘s rendition for nothing. Classic Feed Me with his unruly concoction of bass and twists and grime, but with a build up and drop that rivals most. Feed Me’s kickin’ ass and taking names, and I’m looking forward to seeing where he takes his sound in the future.

With indie and alternative music being where it’s at, finding new music is as easy as watching a new episode of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (season 7 on the way!). And every once and awhile a commercial will surprise me with a quality tune I haven’t heard before. Let me start this off by saying that I’m pretty sure I’ve found a new love. Mette Lindberg, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour‘s frontwoman, is an adorable piece o’ meat and her sexy European accent brings only positive things. The Danish band consists of vocalist Lindberg and producer Lars Iverson. Their live act extends to a sextet that even has a badass horns section. They had their breakthrough in 2008 when they opened for Amy Winehouse and Apple featured “Around the Bend” in one of their iTouch commercials. Most recently, and how I found them, they were caught performing “The Golden Age” in a Heineken ad during NBA playoffs.
Commercial value aside, these guys have a lot to offer. Stringing similarites from acts like Dragonette and Lykke Li, this psychadelic pop band is a time machine ride from the 70s to today and back…and then through space. Their debut album Fruit was released in late 2009 and it’s a basket packed to the brim with a fresh selection of catchy goodness. They just put out The Golden Age EP mid April that featured three new tracks and an 80s cover. Real good stuff! I’d keep my eyes peeled for these guys.

I almost lost my shit when I saw that Doctor P and Flux Pavillion made the bill for Audiotistic this year. Circus Records has been working to get their boys Visas so they can finally show the U.S. exactly what’s up with dubstep now and where it’s headed in the future. It’s been a year since Gold Dust became the dubstep anthem for dj sets all over the world, acting as one of the gateway jams for most people into the genre. As far as dubstep goes, these two are among the best. Their styles are so uniquely awesome and hard-hitting that when they combine forces it’s something out of a dream. Doctor P’s ruthless squeaks on Flux’s bone rattling synths have yet to leave me disappointed and this song is no different. I love how their sounds are distinguishable in the track. Can you tell what’s who? The track drops July 3rd, so we got somethin’ extra to look forward to before the fourth.
Make sure you get your tickets for Audio asap. Last year’s was one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended. Mainly because I love the NOS Event Center for this shit, and it could have maybe been because of A-Trak, Treasure Fingers, Bassnectar, Rusko, Kid Cudi, Cosmic Gate, Kill the Noise, Harvard Bass and others…maybe.

Seems like the more music festivals become relevant, the less money I have to go to them. This past week brought light to Outside Lands, Audiotistic, EDC, HARD Summer…it just doesn’t stop, and I want to go to them all!! I bought my Outside Lands ticket already, because it’s on the verge of selling out and I don’t want to risk anything. My priorities are as follows: Outside Lands > Audiotistic > HARD Summer > EDC. The EDC rumors are pouring out, and I’m not trying to fork over another $100+ til I see precisely how Insomniac plans to blow our minds with a full lineup. A lot of those fests are within a week of each other which should make things interesting. This summer is going to be great. That being said, make up your minds and get tickets to wherever you want to go before it’s too late. Here’s #41:

A fairly fresh beat weaved its way into my library a couple days ago, bringing back a very familiar tune I’m sure. This time, hip-hop beat producer Gramatik puts some new age bass and funk on the timeless Led Zeppelin classic, and now I’m back to cycling through a track I played the f*ck out as a kid. Very willingly though, it’s much too soothing.
Everyone. It’s good to be back, for real now. I’m a victim of the Coachella recovery week, and I’m happy to say things are starting to look a lot better as expected. Small price to pay, if you ask me. In the meantime I’ve been thinking hard about my top 5, and have got it my shpeal all ready for you guys. This was my third time in attendance, and it was definitely my favorite. It was mainly the facts that nothing went wrong and that there weren’t many disappointments whatsoever. I even got to see the camp grounds for the first time. I had no idea it entailed everything that I saw that night: light up swings with a dj, roller rink, discos playing late, vendors, arts and crafts…I mean it’s a whole experience in itself. One day! My only qualm with the weekend is that it was hot as fuck..hotter than fuck. It wasn’t as much of a problem the first two years, but still bearable underneath the extra massive tents this year. Anyhow, here’s how it broke down for me:
I was really into these guys when I was but a chap. Wasn’t old enough to go to shows yet, but these guys were all over the place and then they broke up. This show wasn’t a reunion, I don’t think, but it was their first time back in socal in years. They’re one of those dancy rock bands I always wanted to see, so I was pumped for them to be my first non-dj-artist. They started off with “Anyone” off Dangerous Dreams, my favorite album. Straight business from the get-go. Lots of songs I haven’t heard, but all the classics I couldn’t and still can’t give a rest. Moving Units – Anyone Moving Units – Scars
Nothing short of amazing. Boys Noize is the man. Most seizure inducing lights of the weekend award goes to this set. They didn’t hold back..and it didn’t make it any less fuckin’ awesome. Fifth time I’ve seen him and the best yet.
Their recordings never really did it for me, I became more of a fan from all the cool remixes I had heard floating around the internet. Their liveshow was another story. It was their first time in Indio and they couldn’t have a received a more worthy greeting. They didn’t miss a single beat, and the whole set was packed with more energy than I was expecting. Too much fun. Two Door Cinema Club – Something Good Can Work (The Twelves Remix) Two Door Cinema Club – What You Know
My most anticipated dj set of the weekend. I’m lucky enough to have seen these guys a handful of times, and there’s something about their consistent wobbly banger delivery that I just can’t seem to get enough of. They had the longest set (hour and a half) of the weekend and every minute was filled with all the slimy bass and raved out synths we were hoping to get. As if the set couldn’t be anymore exciting, some drunk bros started a fight right at the front where we were. The first fight I have ever seen at Coachella and things took a turn quickly. It was right as they threw down “Drop the Pressure” so the whole thing was pretty surreal and god damn entertaining. I’ll also never forget wrestling with a kid over a Jack Beats shirt at the end of their set. About 2 seconds into the scuffle I realized how retarded I already looked and decided shortly thereafter that I wasn’t going home without a Jack Beats shirt. For some reason, everyone helped me out and I came out on top. Don’t know what gave me a head up over that kid, but sorry man I had it first.. Jack Beats – Elevator Music
Number one was a no brainer for me. The Strokes absolutely rocked Coachella. They put on the best performance I’ve ever seen live, topping Soulwax from HARD Haunted Mansion 2008. They played most of their classics (Someday, Last Night, Hard To Explain, Reptilia), but the focus was mainly on their latest album Angles (Undercover of Darkness, Machu Pichu, You’re So Right, Games). Julian was talking a lot more this time around and he seemed way more into it than when we saw him at Outside Lands. Lots more sarcastic remarks that had everyone sharing lol’s. Don’t know if there is a maximum capacity for happiness, but I’m pretty sure everyone at the Coachella stage was as close as it’s gonna be. Everyone was singing along at the top of their lungs, and it was something I’m never going to forget. Ever. No homo. There’s just something about the Strokes that most people can attach themselves to, and it really makes a difference when you can tell a band is loving the crowd support. I didn’t bother recording any of the set because I didn’t want to waste a moment. Absolutely flawless. The Strokes – Two Kinds of Happiness
Delightful Mention
6. Duck Sauce
7. The Twelves
8. Afrojack
9. Kanye
10. Mumford & Sons
All in all..awesome year. Awesome people. Awesome music. No complaints. Just as quickly as it arrived, it departed and the countdown begins yet again! Enjoy this week’s compilation:
