Cut Copy | Soundcloud | PreOrder Free Your Mind

Cut Copy have been front runners in the indie/electronic sound since the style’s inception. Being from Australia, every song has an unmistakeable tropical feel to go with its inherent danciness. With their upcoming album Free Your Mind coming out next month, we can surely expect them to take us into untrodden territory of indie dance. They’ve always had an influential role in the genre. “We Are Explorers” is their latest single off the album, and it’s a true piece of art. LA you can catch them at HARD Day of the Dead music fest on 11/2! Check the first single and a classic Boys Noize remix after the jump.

Duck Sauce | Soundcloud

Finally some action on the end of the clown-crew best known by their Duck Sauce moniker. I first heard this track over three years ago at EDC when Duck Sauce debuted in southern California. I’ll never forget that night, let alone every other time I’ve seen them. This song incorporates just about everything I love about the duo: it’s fun, it’s funky, and it has a vintage sample that forces you to sing along. Awhile ago A-Trak tweeted something along the lines of “this duck is finally fully roasted if you catch my drift,” so hopefully that means we’ll get more singles ’til the album drops next year!

FLUME | Soundcloud | Our Interview

With Flume’s upcoming mixtape release, he continues to push himself towards larger, broader horizons. After the free B.I.G. Flume mixtape that was done by one of Flume’s fans, the only logical next move was to garner hip hop collaborations of epic proportions. Right? I mean cutting raps and lyrics on Flume’s beats are like pizza and ranch. No? Sriracha and pho. Still? Fine…pb&j.

He’s released two tracks so far to hold us off. First a revamp of the classic ‘Holdin’ On’ with Freddie “Gangsta” Gibbs. Gibbs’ rhymes are one of my favorites in the game right now, so seeing these two come together is a dream come true. And second, released today, the intro track with Stalley; an orchestral masterpiece that flows like the Mississippi. The full mixtape will be released on October 18th. Check the tracks below in the meantime and the tracklist after the jump!

Du Tonc | Soundcloud

Du Tonc is a recently formed alliance between Matt van Schie and Mighty Mouse. Together they tread off the path towards a new sound that encompasses everything funky about disco and everything tasteful from indie. Though the weather wants to transition to cold and rainy, this track is a little taste of summer, seaside chillin’. We’re very much looking forward to seeing these guys in LA live on Friday, and if you want to win tickets, go here!

Sub Focus | Buy Torus

The world that saw the release of Sub Focus’ self-titled debut in 2009 couldn’t have changed more drastically. The difference has been exponential. In technology, music, lifestyle, and pretty much every way imaginable. Nick Douwma, better known by his stage name Sub Focus, never wanted to confine himself to a single genre, but is best known for his unique breed of drum & bass.

I personally never really understood the sound until I saw the kind of energy and melody it holds at one of Sub Focus’ live shows a few years back. It was a combination of the music he played, the people that were there, and the towering live set he performed on and worked tirelessly to perfect…but that’s another story (documentary below). We live in a time where drum & bass generally doesn’t have the respect it deserves, leaving a big hole for quality material being released. I only can imagine that Sub Focus filled that void with hope that Torus inspires producers on precisely how to do it right.

Torus encapsulates just about everything that makes Sub Focus so important to me and electronic music in general: experimentation, diversity, range, and soul. He brings life back to drum & bass with “Safe in Sound,” “You Make It Better,” “Turn It Around,” and the timeless “Out The Blue.” He takes on a synth rock vibe for “Endorphins,” “Out Of Reach,” and “Until The End.” Then tracks like “Falling Down” and “Close” bring light to Sub Focus’ impeccable range across genres. There’s just something about his execution and the way he uses his vocals that consistently send chills down my spine. All we can do now is pray that he takes his “portal” live setup back on tour (specifically to southern California) so we can shower in all its glory once again!

Giraffage | Yuksek | St. Lucia | Chromeo

Giraffage

Giraffage’s dreamy take on trap and dance music has quickly become one of my biggest inspirations in production. It’s fun. It’s bouncy. It’s catchy. And it’s a staple sound from this rising star. What better that he took the epic classic that is Alice Deejay’s Better Off Alone? So many feels.

Yuksek

After starting his only label called PARTYFINE, Yuksek continues to make his mark in the progression of indie music. The live unmistakeable live instruments pick this song up in a way no synthetic productions ever could. He’s on a roll, people.

Chromeo

Chromeo is back. What more do I need to say? Really? Their upcoming album aptly named White Women is one of my most anticipated of the year. With how music has evolved since their last release, it’s safe to say this LP will stand as a major influence on the disco future. Get ready for epic collaborations with Toro Y Moi, Solange, Ezra Koenig, Pat Mahoney from LCD, and OLIVER!

St. Lucia

St. Lucia is riding the chill wave home with this FREE EP in prepartion for their followup album Elevate. I’m excited to see how they mature on this release. I see big things in their future. Download the EP for FREE right here.

Odesza | Soundcloud

As chillwave continues to grow into broader horizons, Odesza explores their own flavor of angelic melodies and thunderous basslines. By utilizing their style on cut up vocal samples, the songs standout in a very uplifting way. The title track and intro on the EP My Friends Never Die quite literally swallows you whole with all these dudes have to offer. As the EP goes on, they sample the oh-so-familiar Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye and bring life to that song in a way I thought would be impossible.

Odesza continues their rise to success with an epic tour supporting Pretty Lights and Michael Menert! Check the dates after the jump, and enjoy a free download of the EP below.
