Our favorite Sheffield slickers are back with a new album on the way. Arctics’ fifth titled ‘AM’ is set to drop in November. They’ve officially released three singles, including “R U Mine?,” “Do I Wanna Know?” and “Why’d Do You Only Call Me When You’re High?”, so far and it’s sounding awesome, albeit sexually frustrated. Notice they’re all questions? I find it difficult to believe that any of these guys have issues in the romance department, but take a look at the track list and you might begin to believe otherwise. The lyrics from these songs take an abrupt turn away from the enigmatically poetic verses of Humbug and Suck It and See, which might seem like a step backwards to some. They pull if off well, though, with a heavy rock and roll edge. Check out the corresponding videos for “Do I Wanna Know?” and “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?”

Washed Out | Buy Paracosm

Ernest Greene has used his second full-length release opportunity to shift to a more organic sound. He has incorporated antique instruments to re-envision the nebulous music we’ve grown to love à la Life of Leisure and Within and Without. While Paracosm has decidedly ambient and psychedelic leanings due to the lessened presence of electronic beat samples, it does maintain Greene’s dreamy and buoyant vocations. I’m sitting at the Elysium screening, eating GMO candy and sippin’ on high-fructose fizzy gunk, watching a $115 million, cliché-fueled trope that glorifies guns and desensitizes violence. I thought to myself: we are doomed. Somehow, on the ride home, Disclosure restored my faith in humanity. Two hours of provoking grooves, subtle genius and deep range; dare I say this is my favorite mix of the year.

IHC Presents | Event Info

August is quite possibly our favourite month. The summer heat starts to die down and helps us all gather ourselves for a second wind full of marvelous music, wicked weather and long nights with perfect people. This weekend our dose of live music is thanks to Gary and the good folks at HARD. To top it all off, A-Trak and Cashmere Cat will be playing an unofficial HARD Summer after-party on Sunday. Thanks to our friends at IHC, Sunday night will definitely be going off with some downright funky electronic R&B and bass-hop.

Now we know HARD is hosting their own special after-party at Exchange and that it goes until 6am. But they obviously won’t have A-Trak and Cashmere Cat spinning. What more? IHC Sundays is a rooftop party. With a pool. And heated water. And pool toys. And we’ve got some free tickets for you.

It’s nice to see a band you saw grow from such eclectic beginnings to getting well deserved radio time. What more comes with success is worthwhile collaborations.This special remixtape tape was done by Terry Urban of New York City. Known for his hip hop remixes and mashups, this release brings classic hip hop verses back to life on the work of one of the indie world’s premier bands. Best part, it’s a FREE download!
