The San Diego music scene has the reputation of being considerably fragmented across genres. In the early part of the century, Electronic music gained traction thanks to our buddies at LED and SoundLogik. Still, artists at the forefront of the scene appeared in SD sporadically. FNGRS CRSSD was born in early 2013 with the aims of changing the dynamics of the SoCal music scene. CRSSDFEST is that change.
For the past year, FNGRS CRSSD has made huge strides as contributors to shows throughout SoCal and, much like Splash House, proved to Goldenvoice that the SoCal music scene was ready for the ‘underground’. With that backing them, FNGRS CRSSD was able to pull off, honestly, one of the most cutting edge Electronic music lineups we’ve seen in a long time. Ever since Hot Natured released ‘Benediction’, we’d been impatiently waiting their arrival in the States. As it stands, 2015 is that time and CRSSDFEST will be their opening stage.
While that 4(5)-piece super team is a personal stand out, each and every act has made a worldwide name for themselves as beacons of ‘new’ in the House-Techno-Dance world. Acts like Maceo Plex, Tensnake, Giraffage, Classixx, Infinity Ink and Seth Troxler will descend upon the newly renovated San Diego Waterfront Park to help kick off Spring. The festival spans the weekend of March 14-15. There will be 3 stages (The Palms, City Steps, and Ocean View Live).
Goldenvoice’s Coachella still holds the throne for SoCal’s premier festival for all-encompassing music, but we think it’s safe to say that CRSSDFEST is poised to take up the reins as the premier Electronic festival for the more refined aficionado. Here’s to hoping more world-renowned names in the scene recognize this as SoCal’s readiness to welcome artists of much higher caliber. Though Coachella will also feature several of these acts, many highbrows for the house-heads look to be making single appearances only. And you don’t want to miss them.
