What’s up everybody? Got YOLO53 zipped up and ready to go on time today finally. I had to wake up early today despite this throbbing hangover, because I’m about to leave to San Diego to see Treasure Fingers and A-Trak throw down two massive Fool’s Gold sets. Haven’t seen Treasure Fingers in too long, and A-Trak never disappoints. To top it all off, it’s at San Diego’s Wave House, which has one of those artificial waves I’ve been dying to give a go. I will keep you guys updated on our twitter so shoot us a follow. Enjoy the choonz.

Portland, OR seems to be churning out quality indie bands like it’s going out of style, and Portugal. the Man stands apart from most. PTM has been showcasing their developing eclectic style since 2004. Their psychedelic influenced sound hints strongly towards the result of some serious drug experimentation early on, and I can’t say I’m too surprised. Their front man John Baldwin Gourley grew up in a technologically isolated log cabin in Alaska, where drug taking, music making, and dog sledding (in that order) were probably the extent of the activities to be involved in.

PTM is one of the few active bands that I’ve been following since they started putting out music, which really changes how you look at new releases. You have something to compare to. Something that you’ve attached yourself to in the past that makes you even more critical than someone who newly discovers them. Being a part of a band’s evolution of sound gives you a real special connection. Their experimental vibe on past albums has transformed from a “whoa, who spiked my lemonade with LSD” take on their first effort It’s Complicated Being A Wizard to a more rocky and developed jam band style in Church Mouth and The Satanic Satanist. Their whole journey has brought them to a middle ground of near perfection on their sixth studio album In the Mountain In the Cloud.

It didn’t take much longer than my first run through to realize how appropriately titled the album was. You’ll find yourself in the mountain as you listen to the rocky tracks like “So American” and “Got It All,” only to be hoisted up by “Senseless” and laid gently in the cloud with “All Your Light” and “Share With Me the Sun.” The closing song “Sleep Forever” is one of my favorites, but it is almost too suggestive towards an end of sorts. Let’s hope not! The album’s orchestral and gospel feel seam together in such a mastered way that I feel would surely secure this piece in the top albums of 2011.

They’re playing a free show in LA for everyone who supported their album which is SURE to be a ton of fun. Album release shows are the best! I know Witler is going to be making her way over there, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that I can get my work done and do the same. Check out the details on the show here and be sure to grab the album when you get the chance!

Hello friends! So much good new music this week, and I’m happy to say that it’s more in the indie and rock realm. There’s always a fresh flow of electronic music coming through, so I get a major positive mood change when I listen to a solid new album. I’m speaking mainly about Portugal. The Man, who have their seventh studio album being released on the 19th. In support of this release, they are playing a “free” intimate show for anyone that shows proof of purchase of their album. $10 show? Pretty reasonable. Spaces are limited! More details here. The album is probably my favorite of theirs yet. So cool to see a bands sound develop through the years and PTM have come together real nicely. Anyhow, here’s #52. Threw up a couple off the PTM cd that I really like, some other essential indie rock jams, and the necessary electronic bangers. DILLON FRANCIS IS THE FUTURE!

I was trying to do homework until I “accidentally” went on Facebook and saw this song posted. I love when accidents prove to be good things, because I’m blasting this at levels right now. Calvin Harris‘s new single “Feel So Close” is coming out with an all star lineup of remixes by the likes of Benny Benassi, Dillon Francis and Nero. The others have some pretty damn big shoes to fill, because the bar has been set. Nero proves once again their dominance in the realm of melodic dubstep that maintains its hard hitting status. This song does all the right things. A build up and drop to get lost in, filled with slamming bass on top of Calvin Harris’s oh so desirable vocals. The combination couldn’t have come together more beautifully. A masterpiece in its own right. I’m losing my patience waiting for these remixes to drop on Aug 21 (Preorder here).

Seemed to have missed this one over the weekend, but the point is it’s finally lodged safely in my library. I’m just glad to be rocking out to this and it’s not even too late for McDonald’s breakfast yet. I don’t have much else to say that I haven’t already said in the first post I did about this song when it got ripped off Radio 1. There’s no denying how oddly catch this song is, but I just know they can do way better. Which is why I’m excited for the album! This is definitely gonna hold me off for a little while. Maybe one more remix or something before HARD Summer? PLEASE

Happy Sunday friends. On my way back from a real Vegas trip so I can start studying for my midterm tomorrow…..all good though. Whatever I get on this test will be worth it. Got to see Morgan Page at Rain night club in the Palms. Probably one of the coolest clubs I’ve been to. They had straight up cirque du soleil performers hanging off the cieling, robots on stilts doing the robot, pyrotechnics that were a bit much because of how hot it was, and the standard LED light wall. Definitely way better than Marquee which is supposedly the best club on the strip. Pretty overrated if you ask me, but I could be biased because they kicked me out for having too much fun. Anyway here’s #51. Got some fresh tunes for you all this week. Enjoy!

It’s 4 AM. I can’t seem to find the means to sleep. I’m just too excited for this weekend and I’m really pumped on this release. Foster the People gave out yet another remix of “Pumped Up Kicks” on their facebook. I know we’re up to our neck in remixes of these guys, especially of this song, but this one is just as good and unique as any. I’m proud to say that another artist from my hometown is finally getting recognized for their talents. Jason Suwito of Irvine, Ca has been involved with many musical endeavors and seems to have found his niche in Polaris At Noon. Gave “Pumped Up Kids” a poppy rework and turned it into a dance fiends dream. Give it a gooooooo
