Bondax

They say “The third time’s the charm,” and though I don’t know how much emphasis we can legitimately put on that saying, it happened to be the case on Thursday night. I had been to The Roxy twice before; both times my night was cut short due to the place selling out. Once with Super Mash Bros and the other for DJAM (RIP). DJAM was the toughest. Waited in line 3 hours and the show sold out 3 people before me! Sometimes you gotta lose. Well, Thursday, I finally got to see The Roxy from within the walls and it all made sense. The place is tiny! The fact it’s got as much history as it does, with shows of the caliber they’ve hosted made it that much more epic. Probably one of the most intimate venues in Hollywood, next to the Echo and Troubadour. These are my favorite types of places to see artists. Very special vibes within the crowd.

This night in particular was probably one of the Roxy’s slower nights. It was to be expected since Bondax are just beginning their trek to bigger, better, and more deserved things. That didn’t keep some of dance music’s big shots and LA natives to show up. Them Jeans and Felix Cartal were both in attendance and Felix even told me that he wasn’t surprise the place wasn’t at capacity. When the “2 teenage producers” took the stage, it might as well have been a sold out crowd. Everyone was packed to the front. Yelling in excitement as the UK kids’ made their debut in LA. The cheers picked up as they dropped their most recent release “Gold” and Justin Martin’s “Don’t Go.” One of the highlights for me was when the surprised us with Ludacris’ “What’s Your Fantasy.” Haha shit had me on the floor. It was a dancing frenzy! I love when the crowd is packed with people passionate about the headliner. The more underground the artist, the more united the crowd becomes. Definitely a special night and I’m glad I finally got to see one of LA’s most historic venues.

Yeah so it is true that the whole dance music scene is getting more and more commercial. Deadmau5 doing sky scraper sized projection shows for a phone. HARD being bought out by LiveNation and having a lot more sponsors selling stuff onsite. Pitbull taking TJR’s dance floor burner and turning it into……whatever he calls his productions. Lest we forget, no evil comes without some good. With big business tapping into the scene, we’ve been getting more and more free concerts! Something I’ll never get tired of. Sony is hosting Poolside for a free event at their store in South Coast Plaza. All you gotta do is RSVP (click here). Come. Chill. Dance. Eat free tacos. Buy shit (if you want). It’s all in good fun! Allow me to add events like this to reasons why I f*cking love southern California, and you should too.

Flosstradamus | Krewella | Run DMT

I got a last minute opportunity to crash one of LA’s premier Friday night event series and was prepared to capitalize. After bending over backwards to situate a ride, I was ready to let it all out. I wasn’t about to drive myself and sacrifice partying with trap specialists Flosstradamus in one of the genre’s world capitals. No, no, no. The plan was to get turnt up. Am I using that right? Fresh off their Wet & Reckless tour with Dillon Francis, the hoodie boys were expected to put together an unforgettable set for the sold out Hollywood crowd.

Now here are two names you don’t see getting tossed around together everyday! Chromeo has taken it in their own hands to guide the vibe of Boys Noize’s album opener What You Want in a completely new direction. Up beat techno and robotic vocoder quickly turn into the sexy disco and funky riffs of the dance legends. Looks like this is to promote an EP with What You Want and Ich R U having remixes by Jaques Lu Cont, Chromeo, Jimmy Edgar & D.I.M. This experimental release is set to come out January 14th on Boysnoize Records! This is exactly what I wanted, Boys Noize, so thank you.

The Twelves | Penguin Prison | TICKETS!

The Private Label Fridays series is wrapping up their six week run with two more events. Hosting a range of talent from Nosaj Thing, M83, Classixx, RAC, Washed out, and now this. Renowned French disco label Kitsune is taking the reins on the series’ second to last show, headlined by long time C+A+D favorite The Twelves. With support from acts making a massive wave in the dance music scene, this show will be everything we could ask for! I’m actually really excited. We love The Twelves. Seen them a heap of times, and no set compares to the other. Looking forward to seeing Penguin Prison and Anna Lunoe for the first time as well, at a venue I’ve been meaning to check out.

The contest ends at 8PM tomorrow, Thursday November 15th! Be sure to be ready to check your e-mail, because I’ll be giving it to the first person who responds when the winner is chosen. GOOD LUCK! And see y’all there.

Azari & III | TICKETS!

This past weekend we got invited to check out Azari & III while on a live tour to re-release their self titled album with Dim Mak. I’ve had it for awhile, but just decided to jump into it again, given the opportunity. The tribal funkiness takes their sound to a jumble of old school soul and a new school rave. Their live show consists of combo of two DJs (where Azari & III comes from) and the powerful force of two vocalists. Together they grab the audience and throw them into a world of dance and right now. This contest is a chance for ONE winner to take a friend to enjoy this performance! Tweet, like, follow, spread and share to increase your chances. CONTEST ENDS AT 6 PM! Watch your e-mails people.. Good luck :D

RAC | Chapter One
Classixx | SoundCloud

I don’t think they could have had a more fitting title for a southern Californian tour in November. The past two weeks in Orange County have been warm and sunny. Not trying to brag nor do I want to jynx it, but hey! Just trying to give you guys the facts. Speaking of facts, nothing screams summer music like RAC and Classixx. Been big fans of these fools for ages! Excited that the first time I get to see Classixx is at a show alongside long-time C+A+D favorite RAC (check our interview here).

This tour is tackling Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. SoCal’s Very Important Places. Check the ticket links below. RAC just released their Chapter One compilation that’s stacked with old and new remixes conveniently bundled for our listening pleasure. Be sure to support and buy that here! Like, share, comment, spread this post to increase your chances. ONE WINNER of the pair of tickets will be announced by email at 6 PM tomorrow. Keep your eyes peeled. Read more to enter…….Good luck, yo.
