Chronic Mncher

Ever since his three-part ‘Scenery’ mix baptized my innocuous ears earlier this year, French lounge became my panache. Well, Mr. Louis La Roche is back with a 40-minute journey into the intricacies of the deep dark French world. Throw on that snuggie, grab the gingerbread cookies and pour a fat glass of eggnog, Louis’ about to take you on a Christmas adventure.

Released this morning:

Aside from being a timeless Tribe Called Quest album, The Low End Theory is a low-key weekly party in LA. Every Wednesday, the residents (Daddy Kev, Nobody, Gaslamp Killer, D-Styles and Nocando) kick things off with short sets showcasing a variety of music ranging from classic hip hop to the newest unreleased electronica. Surprise guests are part of the norm. In March, Thom Yorke (of Radiohead) popped in and dropped a surprise vinyl set for a handful of lucky aficionados. Oh, and just last month Nosaj Thing took to the stage with a rare turntable performance playing a sort of tribute mix to the Low End residents.

Follow the orange stickers and you’ll find us at the Low End Theory tonight.

@ The Airliner, 2419 N. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90031
$10/18+/10pm-2am

Finals week may be upon us, but that didn’t stop the kids from dancing last Monday. Gramatik, Michal Menert and SuperVision put the Velvet Jones’ sound system to the test as they laid down a bombardment of glitch hop, funk and dubstep. Good vibes and good beats in the perfectly intimate venue, it was one of the best shows I’ve been to in a while. To top it all off, I had the pleasure to share a few words with some of the boys backstage. Check it out after the jump

For those who aren’t familiar, Edmond Huszar is a lone wolf Canadian electro producer who’s better known under his pseudonym,
OVERWERK. At 22 years old, Edmond started remixing just last year and instantaneously hit the blog-house scene (by storm) when he dropped his brilliant rendition of Gartner’s “Space Junk’’.

Well yesterday OVERWERK finally released his much-awaited EP, ‘The Nth º’..for FREE! To be completely honest, the EP is far from perfect. There’s a lot of frequency overlap, not many original sounds and the whole things over before you can say hippopotamus. Regardless, I love to support underground talent and I truly believe with a little more time and energy, this kid will get the formula right.

Help him out with a ‘like’ on his FaceBook.

OVERWERK – The Nth º
1. OVERWERK – The Nth
2. OVERWERK – Alive
3. OVERWERK – Odyssey
4. OVERWERK – Buzzin’
5. OVERWERK – Paradigm ft. Nick Nikon
6. OVERWERK – Contact
