Regrettably, I wasn’t able to make it to Miami this year for the 13th annual Ultra Music Festival. However, thanks to the power of the almighty Internet (all hail), I got you guys covered.

Sure I could tell you about the history making 150,000 dance-loving people that attended. I could tell you about the impeccable sun-drenched weather or how trashed Downtown Miami got. Conversely, these are useless statistics. Let me enlighten on what actually matters, the music.

Laidback Luke

LL has been killing it the past couple years. His track selection is pretty extraordinary; the man drops straight bangers for an hour.

Laidback Luke Live Set @Ultra Music Festival

Exclusive Miami Tracks:

Calvin Harris – You Used To Hold Me (Laidback Luke Remix
Laidback Luke – Jump Jump Dance 2.0(192kbps)

Avicii

This young Swede impresses me more and more every time I hear his sets. Hands down, Avicii is at the top of the game right now. If there’s one kid that knows how to make a progressive set, this is it.

Avicii Live Set @Ultra Music Festival

Kaskade

Ive never been a Kaskade fan, but hey… the bitches love it.

Kaskade Live Set @Ultra Music Festival

Afrojack

Dominating Ultra this year and possibly the best Dutch House DJ on the scene, Afrojack dropped it fat. Like Laidback Luke, Afrojack keeps you on your toes with banger after crazy banger. With the release of his new track, ‘Doing It Right’, Ajack’s future is looking bright.

Afrojack Live Set @Ultra Music Festival

Exclusive Miami Tracks:

Afrojack – Doing It Right

Other Shit Waiting To Be Released:

Skrillex – Equinox

Swedish House Mafia – Save The World Tonight

fun facts released from Miami:
• Carl Cox, Steve Lawler and Ferry Corsten played at an invite-only party at the Mokai. Did I mention only 200 people were invited? Talk about intimate.
• Kim Fai announced he’s working with Snoop Dogg on a new track. Also, house legend Roger Sanchez is working on dance material for 50 Cent.

This is a BIG weekend for electronic dance music. Every year, Ultra Music Festival in Miami becomes the proving ground for DJs. The biggest EDM festival in the world, Ultra is both a chance for up and comers (such as: Chris Lake, Skrillex, Feed Me) to establish themselves, as well as an opportunity for heavyweights (such as: Deadmau5, Tiesto, Kaskade) to defend their title. All eyes are on Miami as everyone and their mothers scramble to release new material. On that note, Chuckie just dropped his Dutch house remix of Hollywood Tonight. To be honest, I’ve steered clear of Dutch lately due to the excess amount of ear splitting and headache inducing sirens (cough cough Afrojack). However, Chuckie keeps it subtle and it flows smooth like cold milk through Frosted Flakes.

As soon as new Ultra bangers are released I’ll get ‘em to you. Straight from Miami to your iTunes. Stay Posted!

@Witler’s theory on genre indecision prompted me to write about Moombahton. A rebellious new species, Moombahton (Moom-Buh-Tone) is an inventive genre that’s gaining popularity faster than a middle schooler with pizza lunchables.  Reggaeton fused with Dutch house, who would’ve guessed? The godfather of this eccentric newborn is none other than Dave Nada of Nadastrom. Nada inadvertently created the genre while spinning at his cousin’s high school basement party. The opening DJ’s dropped slow tempo’ed reggae beats, putting nada in a pickle. Dave Nada flopped his balls on the table and slowed his house tracks down to a sloth like 108 BPM; what a beautiful mistake it was. It’s hard to describe the feel but Nada illustrates it as, “weird reggaeton techno shit at mid-tempo that has lots of bass and perverted chopped and screwed vocals that make people from all over the world grind on each other and get preggarz and think wow this shit is really fun and sometimes it makes me wanna stage dive and fight and fuck and fight and fuck and makes me hungry for mofongo and plantains.” I for one, love it.

Dave Nada – Moombahton
Neroteric – Hey Got Lines
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (A-Mac Moombahton Edit)
Soulja Boy – Pretty Boy Swag (Diplo & Munchi Moombahton Remix)
Billy The Gent – Sweet Moombahton Shop
Dada Life – White Noise Red Meat (No Body’s Moombahton Remix)

Less than one month ago I introduced you hau5 lovin boys n’ girls to the 20 year old Estonian prodigy that is, Mord Fustang. Well, he’s crankin out tunes faster than Santa in December; the boy wonder is at it AGAIN! Those same elegant and distinct synths we’ve learned to love, now with more punch! I give you ‘Milky Way’.

As C+A+D has been moving up to the big leagues, I’ve realized she needs a monthly mix. Nowadays, mixtapes floating around on the intern3ts are about as mundane as books in a library. However, not all of them get it right. It’s time I got on the tables.

Here’s 30 minutes of pure, unadulterated goodness.

Boy 8-Bit (aka David Morris) is an outstanding DJ and producer from Penzance, England. Distinguished for his unique style, I would describe Boy 8-Bit as a mischievous cross between Fake Blood and Jack Beats. Ever since dropping his immaculate EP “The Suspense Is Killing Me” back in 2008, Boy 8-Bit’s been shaking up the scene with old school drum breaks, crunchy bass lines and Atari inspired synths. Not only is his style distinctive but Boy 8-bit’s fiery head of hair is almost as red hot as his beats.
