Skinny Genes

Dear Skrillex,

God dammit dude. Here you go again. You make it so easy to love you with these melodic remixes. How you manage to keep them so uplifting without compromising on filth is beyond me. What a combination of old and new! SebastiAn and you couldn’t have come together any more nicely. Thank you!

All the best,
Skinny Genes

P.S. You owe me new speakers.

RUKES!

Ed Banger’s very own SebastiAn made his almost scheduled yearly return to Los Angeles last Friday, teaming up with Sharooz, Destructo, and a surprisingly talented and sexy opener. Last time I got to be victim to his relentless bass was HARD Haunted Mansion 2010. Before that was the tragedy of HARD summer 2009 that he didn’t even get to play at, and even before that was HARD Haunted Mansion 2008. AKA the rave that woke America up. I’ll never forget when he opened…slamming on Motor and going to a remix of the Strokes that never seemed to surface on the internet. It was everything you’d dream a sebastiAn show to sound like live. Heavy. Massive. Distorted. Packed with samples. Filled with bass. I could go on forever. Nothing but sweetness! What put this show aside from the formers, other than the fact that it wasn’t a HARD event, was that this time he came locked and loaded with a new live set at his own show.

Woah! I’m at 60 weeks. Every week trips me out. Feels good to still be at it, and I got a heap of new treats this week. Lots of great artists are releasing albums very soon! Clap Your Hands Say Yeah‘s album is exactly the push forward they needed as a group. Haven’t sounded any better! And the CSS album took me by surprise. Girl singer throws down, so give it a shot. Got some standout tracks from both albums in the list. This week’s is a little indie heavy but I got some quality electronic tunes that I’ve been bumping all week. Hope you like it as much as I do.

Also how about that picture? I know it’s early…but I really can’t wait to be back in Indio again.

There’s something about this lounge style music that is incomparable to other genres and 20 year old Louis La Roche seems to have mastered it. You can kick back, feet up, blunt in hand relaxing to the background sax. You can be up, grindin’ and letting loose to the unruly bass lines with the foxy lady of your dreams. Or when you take that suga back to your place, you can get down and dirty with sexy vocal loops that put both of you in an ever loving embrace. Can ya dig it?

This guy’s got just about everything going for him. His Peach EP is stacked with five French house bangers that couldn’t showcase his talent any better. The song “Love” was mistaken to be produced by Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter until Louis quickly refuted and gave out the 320 to prove his point. It goes to show the level at which he produces his tracks! Louis’ mixes are among my favorite to listen to. He released his Scenery Mixtape on Gotta Dance Dirty in three parts, each one month from the other. All the tracks featured on the mixes are his own originals, edits, and reworks mastered together in literally the most beautiful way. I’ve been spreading Louis like mad recently, and he just so happened to release a few new tracks and a mix in the last month. Get your groove on to this like I know you will.

Louis Goodies

Louis La Roche – Do You Remember? Delightful Choice!
Louis La Roche – Love
Michael Jackson – Thriller (Louis La Roche Remix)
Don Diablo – I Am Not From France (Louis La Roche Remix)
The Swiss – Double or Nothing (Louis La Roche Remix) FRESH!

Tiesto is becoming a household name nowadays when it comes to mainstreamism. Now he’s touring the states, hitting all major Universities to show he still knows what’s up. Although his music doesn’t appeal to everyone, epic tales of his awe inspiring live shows never cut short. Tiesto chose to feed this generations hunger for the hardest, filthiest music with opening sets from Porter Robinson and our Swedish homies Dada Life for his College Invasion Tour!

Our friends at Simply Delicious are trying to hook everyone up with some free tickets to his stop at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA on October 8th. While we’re on the topic of Porter Robinson remixes, this may be something to look forward to! In a frenzy of new sounds and subgenres surfacing on the blogosphere, Knife Party seems to be holding their own. Porter’s already known for his grimy, hard hitting tracks, and yet Knife Party manages to take it a step further. If you look past the fact that you may get a seizure while listening to this song, it’s pretty god damn awesome. This moombahton/hardcore/dubstep (aka moombahcore) sound is packed with energy. I love it! I picture the whole crowd having no choice but to get mental and jump around nasty to this live. Definitely need to see Knife Party in the near future.

Bonus Party!

YO! Not too much new music this week. Got a lot to say about how surprisingly great IDentity Festival‘s stop at Chula Vista was in a few days, and some pretty sweet upcoming shows. For one: Bart B More is coming to Orange County at the Yost Theatre for limited $10 tickets (here) on Wednesday. For two: thee sebastiAn is coming to Control at Avalon with Sharooz and HARD’s Destruco on Friday! I’m 100% going to this, in fact I just bought my ticket. Get yours here and come chill. SebastiAn barely ever comes to LA and it’s usually for HARD events, so don’t let this slide. Enjoy the list!
