We here at Control+Alt+Delight generally have no interest in the personal drama or affairs of the artists we follow, however; in this case, Joel’s breakup with Kat Von D has led to some incredible new music. The man is pumping out new tunes faster than a tune-pumping machine.. and not just willy-nilly half-assed previews like we’re used to, but full-length quality tracks.

Based in Canada, this trio consisting of, Ian “DJ NDN” Campeau, Dan “DJ Shub” General and Bear Witness describe their music as “powwow-step.” Together they call themselves ‘A Tribe Called Red’ and they create an eclectic sound. Somehow, they melt a wide variety of musical styles ranging from hip-hop, electronic, to African Tribal.

I’m sitting at the Elysium screening, eating GMO candy and sippin’ on high-fructose fizzy gunk, watching a $115 million, cliché-fueled trope that glorifies guns and desensitizes violence. I thought to myself: we are doomed. Somehow, on the ride home, Disclosure restored my faith in humanity. Two hours of provoking grooves, subtle genius and deep range; dare I say this is my favorite mix of the year.

C+A+D favorite Lemaitre shows off their skills with an impressive new mixtape. With much finesse, the Norwegian duo managed to comfortably crunch 24 tracks into an hour set of old classics and new bangers. Don’t snooze, this free download is perfect for the weekend. SCNTST (Bryan Müller) is an experimental electronic producer out of the beer and techno country that is Germany. “J Dilla Changed My Life” is Bryan’s new hip hop inspired LP filled with some hard percussion and a spot of diffused vocals.
