For those of you who don’t know, Radio 1’s Essential Mix is a world-renowned weekly broadcast that features every style of electronic dance music. Two weeks ago Jamie xx (of The xx) threw down a superb set and solidified a surprisingly top mark in my books. Two hours of beautiful Essential that starts with Orbital’s ‘Belfast’ and continues with tracks from James Blake, Floating Points and Fantasitc Mr. Fox which took me on a gentle voyage through purple oceans and floating trees. It culminates together perfectly with Jamie’s Radiohead remix of ‘Bloom’.

What’s better than a French DJ? 4 French DJs. Birdy Nam Nam is a remarkable ensemble of vinyl samplers. By exploiting their turntables, these guys scratch simultaneously to innovatively construct music. Well, they’ve stirred up quite an interest in the electronic scene. Their last album, ‘Manual For Successful Rioting’ (2009), was joint produced by Fellow Frenchmen Yuksek and Justice; respectable to say the least. Well the French quartet is at it again. Their brand new album, ‘Defiant Order’, is produced by (French) legend Para One and was just released this morning.

Make sure to catch them alongside Feadz (Ed Banger), DJ Cam and Chateu Marmont on October 1st at Ooh La La Festival; at the El Rey Theatre. Tickets are 25$ HERE

I’m goin wild for the night, fuck being polite

Dubstep has been on a stratospheric trajectory since Rusko, Flux and Skrillex hit the scene, but I don’t consider overwhelming bass enjoyable all the time. In my opinion, good dub is a gentle balance between bass, groove and repetition. Well I found someone whose doin it right. He’s one of those annoying kids who already achieved so much by age 18 that you start questioning your own empty wanderings. He was swiftly signed to Universal records; one of the largest global major labels and now, Joker is 22 and a recognizable icon in the British dub circuit.

Tiesto is letting summer go with a bang. Epic and massive. That’s not a complete sentence but they’re the only words needed to describe ‘Maximal Crazy.’

Tiesto – Maximal Crazy (Original Mix) <- ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Ok but real talk… We can all agree the track is sick as fuck but this isn’t Tiesto’s Style. I feel like every producer in the scene is conforming to this high energy/fist pumping approach to house. It’s so frustrating. FUCK I hate to admit it, but this shit is mainstream.
Don’t expect much more of this kinda stuff from me.

A 128kbps preview of Justice’s much anticipated new album ‘Audio, Video, Disco.’ I first heard this at Hard Summer and wasn’t sure how to feel. I like it, but I want more of that infamous french distortion. This is a completely new style for Justice but to be honest, I’m not worried; this album is gonna be a generational icon. A,V,D is the follow up to ‘Cross’ and will be released October 25th. Counting the days.

Trying to find my niche, I’ve been a major genre slut these past few months. Moombahtons pretty fun and dubstep always get my limbs flailing but I needed something fresh. Something unique.

Well I found it.

LeBatman is a 27-year-old Italian producer who gets me. He combines funk, disco and lounge house in a wave of beautiful synthesis; everything I could possibly want and more. My slu days are over, I’ve found my place.

Daft Punk – Technologic (2010 LeBatman rework) <- ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
LeBatman – Dating Do’s (Original Mix) <- ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Powerfrancers – Gira Gira (Lebatman One Night In 1984 Remix) <- ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Sunset Cruisin – Perfect Wave (LeBatman remix) <- ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
